Running Battle is a game for the Master System that I've been curious about as long as I've had it, and I thought this was a good week to finally get that curiosity out, and see what the game was all about.
Well, I certainly found out, for better or worse. The game isn't all bad, and does have some things I like, but it's definitely one you want to be wary of. Take a look, and see what you might be missing out on, good and bad, if you pass it up!

I can confirm Detective Sargent is a real UK rank. Basically "Detective" is used instead of "Senior" for multiple, including Sargent but also constable, inspector and even superintendent.
Ooh I know next time, a DSI classic with some changes for console that may or may not have been a good idea.
I felt sure, given the genre, you'd be all over that one. Also, I feel like I've heard that from British TV, about the ranks, but who knows from where.
Rolling Thunder: that was probably what the creative team were imitating. Rolling Thunder and some of its imitators on the NES.
Now that you mention it, I could kind of see Rolling Thunder there.
my first “new” episode…:-0
Nice...
Great review. The game didn't look so bad to me. Maybe I will try it out one day.
Thank you! Yeah, as soon as you try to jump kick the same rotating gun for the 4th time, I think you'll understand... ;)
the music here reminds me of the music from Shinobi 2 on the Game Gear, which had rad music
Yeah, it appears Hikoshi Hashimoto has quite the resume, even if he doesn't have the name recognition others have.
I got Contra vibes from this. I know it’s not a Contra style game at all, but it almost has that look about it.
Yeah, I think that's where I was going with the "looks like a NES game from 1988" thing.
Looks like it was built on the same "code base" as Kung Fu Kid.
I own this and it like a shattered hand (the temu/wish) version.
Why they didn't get it a real go it had potential. I mean graphics by this year on the Master System could way better than this.
It's like Sega were like yeah!! Then nah!! Let it drown.
They jump kick is the best move it can be an infinite you can carry the enemies too the end of the stage literally 😂
It came out in Australia and New Zealand as well.
Yeah, a lot of times, when I say European exclusive, what I mean is PAL exclusive, which includes Oceania. And agreed on all points.
I thought the game was okay, just not amazing. Didn't have it as a kid, so only got to try it later on. Didn't complete it.
I get not completing it. Apparently if you cheat and use the level select code, you get a different ending.
An okay, game but a few small tweaks would have really made the game stand out.
Yeah, that's a good analysis. It definitely needed more work.
I agree and I own this game lol
