I am so in love with Oliver that I never mention how gorgeous Bob is, he really is a handsome guy! I love all of your horses and love watching the interactions between them and your family. The Homestead does ASMR!
Your stallions demonstrate the difference between a 'father' and a 'babydaddy'. I firmly believe that is the influence of the Holy Spirit on your family and the horses.
Thanks for posting this. There were so many heartwarming moments. Funny ones, too.

I am happy for you that Miracle and Jewel have successfully been sold. May they both be smothered with love and prosper in their new respective homes as they were while on Homestead. Bob is a beautiful stallion, and I'm looking forward to seeing his 2024 foals. Then there is our special gentle boy Oliver, and happily anticipating his and Sioux's 2024 foal. I am predicting it's going to be a colt. Sorry JR, I know you're hoping for a filly, but I believe Oliver's first born will be a gorgeous colt. The filly will come with an Oliver, Livi

My husband and I were putting hay out in the pasture on Wednesday and one of our horses took the keys out of the 4wheeler and started prancing around with them in his teeth. We have about a foot of snow and was scared he would drop them and we would never find them so we were frantically trying to get them from him. Then he SWALLOWED them!!!! 😮 2 keys and a key fob. He hasn’t passed them yet. Vet gave him mineral oil. He seems perfectly normal so far. Hoping and praying he’s ok and that we get the keys back 🤦🏽‍♀️

The alpha hay keeps them warm , and they need extra
    Food when its cold .
    If they are shivering
Then you add the blanket or
Put them in a shelter or give them grain ,good food will keep them warm in most cases .

I so love the glimpses if Oliver jm his traces working g about the farm pulling the cart. He definately has the body language that shows he knows that he is doing a job and helping out and he enjoys the work. The more chance he gets to do work, and has gone from just trying to figure out what is expected to understanding what he is involved in doing you can see he moves in a very proud and determined way with his head held up nicely with a good neck curve and a nice bounce to his head, letting the whole world know that he is doing something important.

On my grandparents farm. We took the sleigh, loaded it with bales (before round bales ) and went out to pasture to feed the cattle twice a day. The milk cows were in another pasture. Twice a day, fed them while milking. Fed the bull who stayed in a pen next to the barn. Fed the other livestock. Had chickens, pigs, and horses. All those chores in the winter time regardless of the cold. This is in Alberta where temps got into -50 c and much lower when dealing with wind chills. Trust me, 50 years ago, temps were much lower for much longer periods of time and snow was much deeper. If my Grandparents could successfully survive all that then there is no excuse for animals or people today. Horses didn't have human made winter jackets, they survived just fine. And both my Grandparents lived well into their 90's. They also produced all of their own food year round. Everything was natural, organic, and healthy.

Glad you found good homes for Jewel , and Miracle. May they be loved and cherished as they deserve. Poor Whinney is suffering from mental affects from her food deprivation day's. I think that will change over time as she learns that she won't be starved again. It looks like Oliver is taking care of the younger babies. He and Champ are great guys. Lastly, you can buy block heaters to attach to the diesel engines so they start. I don't think they cost that much. Bob is gorgeous, we don't get to see much of him.

Loved seeing all the horses getting their alfalfa extra for the cold weather..I'm glad you raised the subject of keeping stallions together and with young foals too..l do think they take their lead from our boy Oliver as Big Daddy😂..If l remember rightly Champ was starting to be a brat before you put him with Oliver..and since then he has really calmed down..as you say Beautiful Bob is exactly the same..to me that says a lot about them but also about the way YOU have raised them..with love..yes with discipline and rules but with love and care..that makes a difference..seeing Oliver trotting along the fence and after the others to the hay ring makes me marvel at the progression of him.
In his build of course but also the way he carries himself..with pride..knowing he is a stunner 😂but not being arrogant about it😊..hasn't Winnie improved..her weight gain has been well managed by yourselves..l know you have to not overfeed them..same with me when l get a foster cat who is skinny..its highly nutritional food but a bit at a time..l foster and rehabilitate neglected and abused cats and get them to a stage where they find their furever homes..l understand why Winnie is a food hog..you do find that in animals that have been badly starved which she was..poor Olivia..hopefully thats done the trick..just shows you the difference as all your og horses are ok..obviously Patti..but as you say she had rolled in the wet and her fur was matted and as you get older you feel the cold more..l speak from experience 😮..love the sheep and how gentle Bear is..but he'd still put his life on the line protecting them !!.. love your new Photo of JR and Oliver..really sweet..loved how he was hugging Oliver and Champ..such love and trust..well hope ya'll stay warm and safe and thank you for finding great homes for Jewel and Miracle..two very different horses than when ypu rescued them..that trailer was FANCY..I'd take a nap in there on those shavings😂..God Bless you all..🇬🇧💞✝️🙏👍👏🐾🐕🐴🐴🐴🐎🐎🐑🐑🇺🇸

Alfalfa is so hot, that if yo stick your hand between 2 bales, you can feel the heat. It’s great for single digit weather, but down here in Central Texas, it rarely gets that cold. We are having exceptionally cold weather but our horses are sheltered and have full coats, so we never feed alfalfa.

Blankets on horses is a choice for owners to decide. Each situation is different and you need to do what's best for your horse

I am in NW South Carolina we have had low teens at night for several days here, have to leave out faucets running to keep our well water moving and to keep our house plumbing from freezing as well. This is unusual for here, we have decided to be pro active and install heat tape under the house in the 4 ft crawl space and out at our well we will pull the cover and install insulation there as well. Our dogs did not want to go out, we went and bought warm sweaters for them and that did the trick. Both dogs are small a Boston Terrier and a Jack Russell/Chihuahua cross so they get cold quick. I have heard dogs barking through our woods and wonder why they are outside and hope their owners are not leaving them out too long. Also the coyote pack we have in our woods have been seen running down our road which is unusual .
