Thats why Metallica and Megadeth and Slayer and Anthrax are still around 30 plus years later. Look at all the other glam metal bands. They have been gone ever since grunge music became famous
Like Motley Crue's tour grossing almost a 100 million? As far as Anthrax, they're around, but it's not like they're selling out arenas. They place 2,000 seaters, which half a dozen glam bands outsell.
Trulysarcastic44 Yeah but that's only because of a bit of a resurgence or renaissance. Thrash took a hit too, don't get me wrong, but most glam bands who were selling out stadiums in 88 were working day jobs in 95. A friend of mine played a club and said "that dude flipping the burgers looks like Jani Lane". It was Jani Lane. Those bands, their trendy bullshit only lasted them so long.
@@hmpz36911 As far as I know, bands like Motley Crue and Def Leppard always remained big, not because of nostalgia but because of a big fan base. Metallica went to super stardom, so you can't really compare them to Slayer, Megadeth or Anthrax. They also had to deal with declining attention, and they are considered 3 out of the 'Big Four'. So just imagine how many other less-known thrash band had to deal with that shit as well. It's not thrash that is the key to longevity, it's having a unique band with good music. That goes for the glam bands as well.

Aww they look like small cute babies 😍😍😍😍😍
I'm sure you're cute too Jazsmin 😘
When you have a partner as Lars who let you talk and help you if you don't have anytthing to say, over time you start to feel so confident a little by little you become someone like James who talk much better now
They mention a really important distinction between them and most metal bands up until then which was they took to the stage in ordinary clothes rather than costume/leathers, and they didn't sing about the devil.. It was a big part of their rough and ready more "street" appeal.
@@fredriksvard2603 to be honest I like, and have got records by, most of them.
Lars "Apple Eater" Ulrich!
Metallica still relevant 35 years later. Unbelievable .
After selling like 170 millions of cds, their huge popolarity, won t dissappear out of the blue
And will probably remain relatively relevant after another 35 or so
They haven't made a good CD in 30 plus years. They suck
@@bendup52shut your mouth pig
That had to been a good apple.
James❤
I feel like the interviewer was just trying to get back at Lars the whole time because he made that joke about him being quiet.
Lars is doing all the talking here. I wanna hear more of what baby-faced James has to say.
Sameee
James is such a cutie
He was a bit shy and reserved as a younger man
He obviously said what he had to say :-)
James was shy. Stfu
@@eazye519 James was very shy as a teen and younger guy, thats why Dave Mustaine would do all the talking on stage in between songs when he was in the band. Also Lars has talked about how quiet and shy James was when they met....but he grew into the role of being a front man, so good for him 💪
James in aug of 85 is drastically different and looks younger than the dude you see 8 months later on puppets tour.
100% agree. 8 months later he filled out and has sideburns lol. This is still the teenage KEM james.
@@stylekbender2650 and than 3 years later he ages by 10 years
how are 87, 88, and 89 james the same person
Alcohol is the most physically damaging drug. Read about it.
@@raz0rcarich99 not true. Abusing alcohol is damaging . But there are drugs well beyond alcohol as far as far as damaging the body
Why would I see Metallica instead of Slayer?
James: I don’t know... maybe you’re not into Satan.
😂😂😂
I was 5 months old... I love you guys!!
The Lennon and McCartney of metal
when the interviewer asked if lars wanted to start his sentence over and lars said no that was sooo fucking funny I died
The 1:42-1:50 part isn't true because Mustaine was a songwriter not just a guitar player in Metallica. Dave’s ideas were even used on the RTL record and Kill ‘Em All is full of his songs as writer / co-writer.
Yea he helped write 4 songs
That date was right around the time I had heard of them and started to listen to them .
0:42 A metal musician eating an apple, how original.
I was at that show. I can remember it like yesterday. :)
James's face tho haha I want that shirt
JAMES IS SO SHY
Truee
Lars is lying at about 1:50 by saying that Mustaine didn't contribute to the songwriting in the early days. No wonder Mustaine was pissed at them.
Who cares? Dave had megadeth, you Dave fans are so stuck in the past like him.
Kirk and Cliff contributed to the songwriting which the other 2 members didn't do? Lars knew full well this wasn't true.
@@kp7309 I like both bands but some people care about fair play and others don't.
Far from the only reason lol
@@NWOWCW4Life1 That is true!
Metallica used to have some of the longest songs ever! but they were awesome! you were on a mission when you were playing along with them... some liked it some hated it? I loved it! I miss and will always love the old Metallica... very inspiring!
If Lars did not meet James no metallica will happen. Can't imagine a world without Metallica ❤️
I just watched the full interview so time for an apple now.
They're like 22 and today they still sound the same
Yeah its almost like they're the same person
Straight after this gig they fly to Europe to begin recording Master of Puppets- what an amazing time in their lives.
Anthrax was never important
True
@@hmpz36911 As far as I know, bands like Motley Crue and Def Leppard always remained big, not because of nostalgia but because of a big fan base. Metallica went to super stardom, so you can't really compare them to Slayer, Megadeth or Anthrax. They also had to deal with declining attention, and they are considered 3 out of the 'Big Four'. So just imagine how many other less-known thrash band had to deal with that shit as well. It's not thrash that is the key to longevity, it's having a unique band with good music. That goes for the glam bands as well.
😍aaaa Jamess😍
it should be called "lars interview"
