Marriage Chronicles: Tough Conversations Pt. 3 "Family"

It's time for the holidays! As if 2020 has not been stressful enough there is one last "Tough Conversation" to discuss. Family!
In a nutshell, no one should feel unprotected when it comes to a family member. Early in our relationship Marqus and I had to have this conversation about one of his family members. Was it easy? NO! Was it necessary? Yes! I had to come to him in a place of vulnerability and express actual situations or comments made that put me in a bad place. It had gotten to a point where I started to refuse to go to that particular family member's home. After the conversation, Marqus had to be the one to talk to them and protect me. It wasn't something that I could do it had to be him. He had to show that as his wife I was a priority and if it came down to it we as a family would not be there for holidays anymore. As for Marqus, my family had a hard time accepting him due to our history but I refused to talk bad about him and he showed himself to be a protector and provider.
We are blessed to say that we all get along now and are building healthy relationships. Don't waste another year feeling uncomfortable to keep the peace. It might turn out better than you think!
