Hold me quietly, hold me gently,
hold me dearly, like I was sleeping...
Rising up and feel us breathing
I saw we were flowing back to the beginning...
Grow up child, come and face me
We've held on like orphans to a faded dream
We're not what we were, we won't fit in
We don't have to fight what is not what it seems
So don't think I'm going back to the beginning...
What is entwined (you're not listening)
Lure us to heal
turn off your mind and remember to feel.
What is entwined
lure us to heal
turn of your mind, remember to feel.
Cool your rage, it's breaking your bones
We're two old souls just trying to get home
Scream and blame, you'll blind you're star
I'm broken, I'm broken,
I'm going back to beginning... - Видеоклипы
Once again, Damien Rice touches my soul with Back to Beginning.
i'm fortunate in being able to appreciate Lisa, Carrie and Lou all in their own rights as well as the beautiful music they have all made in their respective combinations with both Andy and Damo ..... my life has been made richer by their music... but then my glass is more likely to be half full than half empty.... so, have a nice day all you critics... and be sure to go out every day and make a lot of people happier, just as all those above do with the gifts they share... lovely version...thanks
one more brilliant and hypnotizing song by Damien Rice :)
This is beautiful. . .The first female voice since Lisa that comes even close to Damien's artistic musical style. I like it. . .very much. One thing for sure. . .there is never anyway to go backwards. Things happen, we grieve for as long as we have to. . .Then we reinvent our new beginning. . .Seems (and I Hope) Damien is on his way forward......d~
This song has so much feeling. Damien Rice has grown for sure.
Hoorah, Carrie, new you'd make it, Legendary beautiful way of singing x

instaBlaster...
I would be amazed by this if it wasnt damien rice, perfect thinking music as always
Fantastic!! I can't wait for the new album release!! =)
NÓSSA ! MARARAVILHA...
He s perfect
with this song, the scale in my love-hate relationship with damien has shifted
Its in the style of an old traditional celtic Irish tune!
love it! =p
dang this is tight.
Wow I can’t believe believe how many you guys don’t like the female singer. I honestly think she’s great I love the sound of her voice and accent even if she isn’t Lisa Hannigan she’s still good.
So glad that it's finally Lou Rhodes singing on this one ! Carrie tree is nice but ... come on ... Lou is ... LOU !
Twin Souls.
A-FUCKING-MAZING
Cresça criança
Venha e me enfrente
Me abrace forte
Onde você foi?
A expressão nos seus olhos
Esta me assustando assim
Eu me sinto tão só
Quando nós estamos desse jeito
Os sonhos de amanhã
de nossos ontens
Mas porque nós não podemos
Voltar para o início
Ohh, meu amor
Oh, eu estou ouvindo (desvanecer)
Eu tentei tanto entender
@Des868 I love the woman's voice. She sounds completely different to Dolly to me, and certainly not cheap. They're both great.
Parece música nórdica antiga!
It reminds to something of celtic or scottish folk music
@GreenerTHANGrass Exactly.
woooow how did you get this???
I've been listening to this for weeks on Andy Barlow's website but I couldn't find it anywhere else on the internet!!
Thank you sooo much :D
I find it the same way.
The only version I was able to purchase was with Lou Rhodes, but I want this one as well. Where would I be able to find it?
@didoma73 towards love or hate?
Bollocks, it's not with Luna Seeds and it's not Carrie Tree. Its with Lamb so this is Lou Rhodes singing with Damien.
This version is Carrie tree You are wrong
+Jane Heighton : Well if it indeed is her doesn't sound like her much in my opinion. My doubts linger on.
+I am nothing ...I know absolutely for a fact that this is Carrie.but it really doesn't matter.
it's good in a very different manner compared to what he's done before.
@AshMashDashSplash I know how you feel ^^
i like it better with Lou's voice
Oh, no, no, no. It's a beautiful song, but it's a conversation between 2 people that's full of anguish....and Carrie Tree just doesn't convey that anguish. The version on Lamb's '5' with Lou Rhodes taking the vocals blasts this version out of the water, she projects the pain that's in the female half of the song's conversation.
sounds like lisa hannigan. omg
There should've been a "bitch" somewhere in Damien's lyrics like when he says "you're not listening, (bitch!)" even if it's just very subtle. Or when the woman says "Cool your rage, it's breaking your bones" - Damien should've answered like "fuck my bones bitch! check my heart!"
Other suggestions:
"So don't think I'm going back to beginning, (bitch!)"
"Don't tell me to 'remember to feel,' (you patronizing fuck!) - YeeeaaAgh! Haha! They should rewrite this shit like that!
Inompatangina!
wow he is looking for a replacement for lisa or s/t
like the voice but it's not the same...... we all know what I mean.
Is it me or is she trying to copy Lisa's way of singing? Lisa would fit there perfectly of course. I like this song anyway...
I think she is over-trying to copy Lisa on singin' but she's definitely not doing a good job, maybe because she is not Lisa! I don't really like this song, I expected much more from Damien,...but yeah with Lisa missing, I don't think the songs would have the same impact to our souls!
damo? really? not sure....
I'm not really sure I like this... it's seems too cliched, I don't feel this has the sense of intimacy his previous songs have. but maybe it'll grow on me.
....The woman sounds like a cheap and over dramatic version of Dolly Parton. The song itself is kind of disappointing, if you change the lyrics it could join the ranks of all the tedious Christmas songs.
