I’ve learned my perfect set up. 8.38. 14.5 wheelbase. 32.25 long (been riding the dlx easy rider. Thunder’s baby. Make it a little longer if a wheelbase. (I’m 6’1)
Ever since I started paying attention to wheelbase, I realized I like shorter way more. It’s pretty interesting because I’m pretty tall (6’3 200 lb) so the conventional wisdom would say that i would likely prefer a longer one. I went from 14.5 inch down to 14.25 and it feels amazing. I might even try a 14 inch and see how I like it
Yeah dude, there are general guidelines when it comes to this stuff but at the end of the day it comes down to what is most comfortable to each skater 👌🏼
trucks make a huge difference too, 14.25"wb with indys and 14"wb with ventures are about identical axle-to-axle. but i also have a 14"wb with indys and a 14.25"wb with ventures(my primary setup) in the mix. i like 15"wb for transition
I skated that 9.18” Anti Hero Huffer with it’s 14.75” wheel base on 8.75” Venture V-Hollows and that just felt so cumbersome to get any height on. I’m 6’5” but I think 14.5” is probably the longest wheel base for me at least on Ventures. Skated a 9”, 14.25” wheel base Santa Cruz popsicle on those Ventures though and that actually felt very easy to get off the ground by comparison.
Really digging your content broski. Keep it up! I've literally been experimenting with wheelbases recently as well as watching videos. Its as if you know😂
Yes! The maddness!!! Hey bud. Hope you are well! Mini ramp is in and im back on the board! Next time you are up make sure you and tge boys drop in for a sesh. You will love the scenery where it is! Hey.. if you bring that wb in 1/8-1/4 inch on the tail … you will increase your “ fingers of flat “ aka leverage and the front wont feel as heavy. It may goldilocks your setup! Be well legend.
Haha yeah the madness is real!!! Oh sick, that would be amazing man! I'm keen to hit Umina again too 👌🏼 Damn that's a good point, maybe I've got some experimenting to do lol
I‘m still experimenting. But so far I definitely feel comfortable on 14.75 wheelbase. I never tried 14.25 though, maybe it would be a good idea to try out for better maneuverability for flip tricks, or maybe not, since I‘m a big dog (6.3 ft😭🤣).. Nice content as always, keep it up 💪🛹
Recently switched to a longer wheelbase. Never experimented much with my wheelbase, but I'm starting to get the hang of it and like it. There's a lot more room to push around on, and it feels like I have a lot more room on where to stand/land. It's definitely noticeable when doing tricks like boardslides and slappys. I would like to ride it more to have an actual opinion on it, but so far it's been alright. At first I didn't like it because it was different, but the more I skated it, the more I understood the appeal. My only complaint is it feels heavier, and my foot placement is a little different for tricks. Like I have to put my foot further back to pop, but once you get used to it, it doesn't feel too weird. So far the one thing I don't like is that it isn't as easy to spin when doing tricks like pop shuvs, it takes longer for it to fully get back around and rotate. I might end up sticking with shorter boards in the future just for that reason alone. Great video, though! Killing it as always, Leon.
Yeah dude, it's actually crazy how much of a difference it makes! I guess it just depends on how you want your setup to perform to what wheel base you should choose 👌🏼 Thanks dude, appreciate you!
Leon you gotta try a true 15" wheelbase deck. Those snub nosed ones are cool but they dont have the overall length that you need with that long of a WB. I have been riding the 9" anti-hero popsicle. 15" wb and 33.25" overall length. I have noticed the overall length to be a big game changer after switching ffrom my opera dragon which was 15"wb with 32.5 overall length.
@LeonPaxton yeah only reason I haven't tried an egg is cause I need those long dimensions. Anti-hero actually made a grimplestix one, I think it was 9.75". Hoping they make another since that sold out so fast!!
Dude your skating is super dope. Could you do a tutorial on 50 50ing those rainbow rails? Last time I committed to hitting one, I slipped out and slammed hard. Great channel.
Nice, I've just set this egg up as my little board. My main one is a mindless gothic about 16" wheelbase. I got it as it was cheap and I wanted to know what longer boards felt like. I find it pop's better than the egg.
You honestly look like you skate with more confidence with the larger WB, but it's hard to tell if you were just warmed up then or not. Either way, great skating - I'd be terrified to do those noseslides and blunts on that tiny nose!
It felt that way too, especially with the flip tricks! But yeah I could have just been more comfortable and warmed up at that point so it is kind of hard to tell lol Thanks man 🙏🏽 Yeah I felt like I was definitely going to get hurt but luckily it worked out lol
@LeonPaxton it's funny, I wrote that comment before I finished the vid and then saw you talked about all that - I'd love to get one of those tools that change my wheelbase to try it out myself! Next time you should warm up on the bigger one, when switch to the shorter to see if you still are more confidence on the wider WB. At least then it will take the "warming up" factor out of it. It's a cool experiment you ran 👌
Thanks dude! I actually dropped my first street part last year and am about half way through filming my next one 👌🏽 This is the video we made and my part starts around the 12min mark ruclips.net/video/xQZ6ZiUteTs/видео.htmlsi=9cInm75-qPoPy7gl
Better circle turning won't translate to better pinch Perhaps on rails that aren't straight a longer wheelbase might mean your mass is of the center line, more noticeably so for sharper curved rails?
Man, that's a longboard 😂 I've noticed that the longer the wheelbase the harder it is to pop it, which can affect timing and duration of your session. I've also noticed that it makes, pivoting, kickturns, 180 and 360s harder, also hardflips and impossibles more impossible or at least dangerous.
Yeah definitely the longest wheel base I've ever skated lol Yeah that's usually what I've found as well but for some crazy reason, all of the flip tricks felt so good on the longer wheel base 🤔
What’s your perfect wheelbase?
14.125
I don’t know. I felt it was 14.5” a while ago but since then I’ve felt pretty good on both 14.25” and 14.375”. But one of those I guess.
I’ve learned my perfect set up. 8.38. 14.5 wheelbase. 32.25 long (been riding the dlx easy rider. Thunder’s baby. Make it a little longer if a wheelbase. (I’m 6’1)
14.25 on Ventures and Thunders, 14.75 on others
(around 44.5cm from axle to axle)
14.375 with slappy trucks so far
every video is just a pleasure to watch, the clips are always shot and arraged so well
Thank you, appreciate that a lot! 🙏🏼
Always appreciate your perspective. Most people are pushing 14" wheelbases these days.
Thanks dude! Yeah it just depends what you want out of your board 👌🏽
fav skating content bro, keep up to good mahi

Legit same story on my end too 14.2 and 6ft 2, going down from 14.5 was night and day 14.125 next 😂

That sounds so wrong but makes so much sense because of the truck geometry lol
Motivating and informative as usual! Thanks for the skatepark location, gona check it out soon.
Thanks dude, glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah I finally remembered to put the skatepark address in 😂
To be honest, your the only skater I see doing willy grinds often. Great vid tho!
Haha yeah man, I love that trick!

True, that would have been a little over 14.75" with those trucks!
Yeah that makes a lot of sense too 👌🏼
Love your videos, man!
Thanks legend!

Thanks legend 🙏🏽
Haha good timing then!
Thank you for the great video!
No worries dude, thanks for watching!
360 popshuv looks so cool. Im a sucker for shovits, big spins and manuals though
Those tricks are so fun on an egg too!
@@LeonPaxton If you could incorporate some shovits to manuals and big spins on your big eggs you'll make my day :)
I'll definitely give it a go 🤝🏽
@@LeonPaxton The hip big spins looks awesome also the pink wheels are sick in there. Your stylish skating is a treat to watch

Haha yeah dude, it’s definitely worth trying! That’s the only way to find out what works best for you 👌🏽
Thanks dude, appreciate you 🙏🏽
At this moment,my set up is:Jacuzzi Barletta popsicle shape,31.5 long,wb 13.7,width 8.75 easy to flip.

Yeah dude, I missed out on that one too! It looked like only 2 of them came to Australia too 😅
Dude your skating is super dope. Could you do a tutorial on 50 50ing those rainbow rails? Last time I committed to hitting one, I slipped out and slammed hard. Great channel.
Thanks dude! Like a pole jam rainbow rail?
@@LeonPaxton Yes, even that little triangle rail you went up and over, those look sick, but super scary.

Slow, but I pop ollies like a sloth 🦥 so it fits.
Siickk❤
Thanks dude!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
I'm comfy on 8.5w 32"L 14.25wb with thunders. I tried a 14.1wb and lost consistency on flat ground. That tiny difference made me super unstable.
Yeah dude, it’s crazy how much difference it actually makes!

the difference in wb is really noticeable in any rotational tricks
Definitely!
Have you dropped any video parts before? Wanna see you in the streets! Love the videos mate.

I ride the same board with 77 ace af1..the 14.75 wheelbase seems perfect for me.
I´m 6,4 tall guy
😅
Sick! Those trucks would fit perfectly with the taper 👌🏽
What park were you at?
Telopea skatepark near Parramatta dude 👌🏽

Your dreams have been answered, Heroin just put out Long Eggs. 33 long dual 15-15.5 wheelbase.
I seen that! So keen to get my hands on one 🤞🏽
I'm 6'5, all leg. A 15"+ wheelbase is perfect for me 🤙
Haha yeah I feel you on that one!
Wax your pivot cups!
?? Doesn’t it stop squeaking ???
