I have my 6 st BMW, the best cars ever, best motors, I just bought the X2 hybrid X drive , M sport….BMW brings joy and pure pleasure to drive…. Much more then any other car….I’m watching you every week from France 🇫🇷 😉
Purchased the X1 Msport 2.0 petrol, 20” wheels … with the lot, arrived in October 2022 (Australia). An update to my wife’s Audi Q5. Great car, excellent tech, drives well, comfy seating and electronic key in my Apple Wallet is fab. Only down sides are harsh suspension, noisy on 20” run flats and lack of knob to sort climate control … oh yes, and the price. All in all, glad we upgraded.
Very impressed with our 2023 X1 (M Sport package, Prem Enh, 19" wheels) having been driving it for a week now having traded in a 2017 X3. Loving all the technology in the car, really like the curved display screens and finding the touchscreen is great to use and operate. Do not miss the iDrive control dial at all, the interior design and layout are well executed. The new engine improvements and dct transmission seem to work well together, very sporty peppy ride and impressive gas mileage so far.
@@Barkingcats22 We did a measured gas use last week on a 284km road trip and used 19.8L of fuel. That works out to 6.96L/100Km or 40.6 mpg(Imperial) or 32.4 mpg(US). The X1 computer reading was 41.2mpg. So far have bout 1500km on our X1. That is great gas mileage, however we have been driving fairly easy and not much in sport mode. On the other hand this is winter driving when gas consumption increases. Will look at it again over the summer when doing more sporty driving, but it looks like BMW has made a really nice engine that optimizes performance and fuel use.
Great review A&Z. What you missed to mentioned ist that the car can be ordered with onboard camera and feature like Tesla‘s Sentry mode (it records all accidents). Also the vehicle also can be equipped with augmented reality map. I really don’t know why your test vehicle doesn’t have the „boost“ panel shifter (it gives you 10 sec of maximum power, for overtake for example).
We have had it for 2mths. Arrived end of Nov. it’s been great, the engine, especially the Torque, tranny and suspension have been a lot of fun. The lack on knobs, especially the heating has been obnoxious, but not bad to navigate. Since you mentioned it 20x, the lack of heating in the base price is brutal for a BMW. Trying to get you to buy a full package. Zack they should have given you a M trim to try, paddle shift and dynamic suspension. Great review!
Aint worth it for the packages. Your BMW gets too expensive at that point. Though Merc and Audi comes standard with heating seats, so better competitive value elsewhere IMO.
@@dondonaldson1684 Thats even worse. Why do the Germans always have to make a simple function more convoluted- because try using voice commands in a car full of loud kids, which is the purpose of an SUV.
The smallest brother X1 looks a lot better than the biggest brother X7. Jokes aside, the new X1 is definitely the winner in its class. BMW nails it and man, if my wife wants to replace her 2018. X3, the new X1 totally makes sense. she will pay less for even more amenities except people may think it is a downgrade (people only judge from the badge duh). Her x3 was fully loaded with the rare m sport adaptive suspension (for 2018 you need to tick almost every option in order to get it), so she pays north 70k+ taxes for an X3. Now the fully loaded X1 with adaptive suspension is sub 61k, with similar roominess and better tech! Wonderful review! No one does couple car review better than you guys!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the review. Our test model with some extra features came out to around $55,000 CAD which is where the X3 starts in Canada. I would be pretty happy with this new model and it's an absolute blast to drive.
@@andreaspencer9813 totally! The 60k model that we got quoted was the m sport trim with all the bells and whistles. I honestly think my wife will be super happy with the one without m sport trim unless she really wants the adaptive suspension which is only featured in the m sport model i believe.
Amazing video Andrea and Zack! I'm liking this re-design BMW X1 ... I think it worth taking one for test drive because it so much improved and looks like a mini x3 from the rear
Considering what many Japanese/VWs/domestic CUVs are costing, this (albeit not inexpensive)… looks to be decent value. Over $45k is hardly cheap, but what else would has a such a Germanic look, solid presence and Badge with so much amazing history. It is an entry level BMW model which will most likely draw many new clients into the premium German market… which is good. I like it. As well as … the video. Thanks.
Yeah but Japanese cars are far more reliable. Especially compared to the German cars manufactured here in the states or Mexico. Japanese cars are still mostly produced in Japan. Also it’s not about just initial costs, but also repairs. Repairs for BMW are far more expensive.
At least the Japanese cars are reliable- and easy to use. Spend a few minutes looking at how convoluted the process is to turn on heated seats, or why the temperature has to be on the screen- all functionally inferior design choices- and the Japanese interiors all look simple and convenient by comparison. Not to mention the Germans have a bad history with plastic interiors sqeaking and creaking. I wouldn't be surprised if that floating center console is creaking every time you lean on it in a year or two. Also, in a Japanese car, like a CX-5, at this price point, you would get premium leather and cooled seats. In the BMW you are stuck with vinyl. BMW has an amazing history, but the inclusion of a BMW badge on this new model doesn't mean that any of that amazing history has carried over into it.
Good review. I actually like the way the exterior looks. I think BMW got it right, but not with the interior. I agree with Zach and Andrea, I don't like the new infotainment system without hard buttons.
So glad you made a video for X1! Great review as always. Wish you would have talked about the dct transmission in the base X1 and we need to pay extra for the automatic which probably you guys are driving
in Canada, I don't know why BMW on their Canadian website differentiates between DCT and Auto Trans with the Auto Trans costing more... in the US, it is just called the DCT... The 'auto trans' is really the inclusion of the paddle shifters and other items that make up the MSport version which here in the US costs an additional $2300 USD = no difference in power figures though...
If they didn’t bring back the spare tire we would not have gotten the X1 my wife was driving an older crv and she wanted something similar in size and this new X1 was the best fit to replace it. Thank you for the bob marley side note.
I think the new X1 looks nice overall (Countryman also looked nice), but agree short on some features like heated/ vented seats, not without paying for a hefty package...
Got our in beginning of December, one of the firsts coming to Ontario, HEA package (Enhance&xline) Pros: Quick, very quick, good and informative breaks, pretty quiet, amazing harman sound, fuel efficient (high way 7.5, city 8.5-9), very roomy, love the rear camera wash nozzle, very fast heated seats and steering wheel, start the car from the app and enjoy the warm seat and warm steering wheel, the app itself very good Cons: hate the new handles design, missing idrive, missing physical bottoms, cannot retract extend head rest anymore(not talking about up/down), cannot close the trunk from a fob, stupid design of a sunshade, i like to seat low, and when is a sunset/sunrise, the sunshade doesn’t work you have to lift yourself up , they means you have to readjust mirrors, no lumbar support, any trim you go you don’t have it, wtf? no adaptive cruise.not removable flor/shelf in a trunk, on a rainy days on a high way can’t see anything in a mirrors cause all the mess covered visibility on a side window exactly when it shouldn’t be…
Great review! I think this needs MSport package and it’s something I would consider. My 2013 X3 35i with 199,500 km that I owned from new still feels like something I should hang onto versus something like this which now costs what my X3 did back then. The X3 with the inline 6 feels special and has what I need and I get to keep my money. I’m starting to think Porsche Macan S and GTS variants present value versus BMW. Also, great call on the Bruce Springsteen album on the stereo!! Love the boss!
I agree with you. My 2015 Macan S has a six cylinder and feels special too, at 114,000 kms. With the trend in extracting as much HP and torque from a smaller and smaller engine concerns me with respect to engine longevity. My six cylinder Macan with 340 HP feels strong like the day I bought it new.
Bring My Wallet so true, but I really still love my old X1 with the heated leather interior and sexier exterior. Does the new model come with remote start or a block heater or still extra in Canada?
I was told that adaptive cruise with lane assist is difficult to get as an option in the US but easier to add in Canada. You have to learn to control everything by voice control and the controls on the steering wheel. From what I hear that the new voice control system allows you to control things like the heated seats and your preferred preset stations.
Another great review guys - main issue for me is the tiny wheels which look out of proportion with the car and the moment you ‘bring your wallet’ and buy the bigger sporty versions with summer tyres they trash the ride! Or do you think if you opt for adaptive suspension Andrea it will still be relatively comfortable? Best Clive
My wife and I owned a 2015 BMW X1 (4 cylinder turbo) for 4 years (bought it used with 16,000km). It was a base model, with just one optional package, but we still really liked this little SUV. I grabbed a 2022 X1 before they were all sold off. I prefer buttons and a proper shifter. Plus, just my opinion, the outgoing X1 looks more iconic, the new one has a bit of a cartoonish front. I’m not a big fan of screens ….
Really nice car, I saw one yesterday that was all black with the 19 inch wheels. It was stunning. I really like the door handles . There s something really wrong about paying for heated seats in a “luxury” car. I had the ventilated seats in a Ford truck but don’t have them in our XC90. Great review! Very nice looking BMW. I'm 6'2", and am looking for an SUV with comfort, quiet ride(#1), power and cargo space for my golf clubs. Not sure this BMW fits the bill. If not, any ideas what would???
see Sam CarLegion's review of the x1 of about one month ago.. he is 6 2 and says it was more than fine for him. Even the reviewer at the same height at the German Autogefuhl channel liked it...
Hi thank you for this video, could you confirm if the rear seat has underneath lever to adjust to move back a forth? Also on this model is the Xline option are the side view mirror with high glossy and aluminum combination ?
Really like it. I do like you guys wish they had kept the idrive knob and had a couple more standard features. My personal wish would be to add the PHEV power train from the 3 series as an option, but I can see that not being doable due to the mechanical differences.
i test drove one yesterday for purchase, i found it lagging when accelerating, sometimes it would not accelerate at all, then just kick start, reminds me a bit of the Tiguan some yrs back, otherwise a good inside looking vehicle, the front grill could look better just a little smaller though, but am going to Acura RDX, smoother drive there
I test drove one and although it was around 95 degrees i was perplexed that the entire glass was sooooo hot on the infotainment screen . I wonder if thats gonna be a problem later on??? As if it overheated before car was even turned on
I was hoping the iX1 would make it to Canada. My X3 goes back later this year and I am looking to switch to an ev so it looks like a new brand for the next toy.
The back seat sure looks spacious, which I was surprised by. What I am curious about though, Zach could you fit in the back seat if another tall guy was in the front, with the seat all the way back?
Don’t think BMW has the production capability at this time to sell the ix1 in North America, otherwise I’d have one already… for me the ideal electric suv, and based on European reviewers, handles beautifully.
Thanks for the great review as always This new BMW does not stand out and the rear is awkward bad. Interior is a pass for me also. More power isn't always better. Toronto traffic is mostly stop and go every day and all hours.
Great video. This vehicle is very nice and good price. I understand need for buttons but with touchscreen, they may not going back. Interior is an awesome tho. 👍🏻👍🏻☕️☕️
When it comes to dynamics, the original X1 feels the best as it had the most "classic BMW" driving feel despite of its poor interior packaging and questionable styling. The 2nd and 3rd generations have lost that BMW handling edge. But interior packaging and styling have made strides, in a more mainstream manners.
I asked on your Instagram page for this 2023 x1 - does it include the always-excluded blind-spot monitor ?? Not a mention of it here in this review… ❓❓❓❓❓
Test drove one the other day and I didn’t even know it had stop start engine until the sales rep told me. I was surprised it did. That’s how quiet and none intrusive it is. Didn’t find any lag. Was punchier than the X3 I drove right before hand … surprisingly fun to drive.
In my test drive I found it nice to drive, feels small, cabin noise was fine, and has plenty of power with good trunk space. The center console, dash, and vents are awkward, so is the grill and the wheels are ugly. The seats are too tight and couldn’t get comfortable. Not having home link is a bummer. Overall NOT a vehicle I would like to own.
I haven't like the appearance of a BMX in quite a while. I don't like this model either; but at least this model looks like a super model compared to it's fugly sibling the iX. I saw one in the real yesterday and it makes the Pontiac Aztek look like high design.
RFT or otherwise the Front suspension noise is very heart breaking, a/c is poor in tropical climate, battery life only 24 months. Likes > very crisp handling, drivers pleasure.
Great job as always!. I like the interior, not the exterior. Good news the UX is improving. Mostly, I wish they added some electrification to the powertrain. A rear electric motor, powered by a small sub-5kWh battery, would transform the potential. Faster acceleration, AWD, regen braking.
I don’t understand how they managed to make the UX so small in the cabin. It’s the same length as the X1, yet feels so much smaller inside. Lexus really messed up the int scaling of the UX.
I got my 2023 x1 in December. I have it with full package and am inlove with the car.

Really like it. I do like you guys wish they had kept the idrive knob and had a couple more standard features. My personal wish would be to add the PHEV power train from the 3 series as an option, but I can see that not being doable due to the mechanical differences.
Great review again Andrea and Zack! I agree with Zack about weird front end. The wheels look awful!
i test drove one yesterday for purchase, i found it lagging when accelerating, sometimes it would not accelerate at all, then just kick start, reminds me a bit of the Tiguan some yrs back, otherwise a good inside looking vehicle, the front grill could look better just a little smaller though, but am going to Acura RDX, smoother drive there
I test drove one and although it was around 95 degrees i was perplexed that the entire glass was sooooo hot on the infotainment screen .
I have been waiting for looks amazing
She takes those fastish turns rather nicely.
I believe it’s a mistake to not bring the iX1 to the USA and Canada.
Don’t think BMW has the production capability at this time to sell the ix1 in North America, otherwise I’d have one already… for me the ideal electric suv, and based on European reviewers, handles beautifully.
@@MW-ut3dk I believe the iX1 would sell well if it were to come to North America. There is clearly a market for premium C-segment crossovers.
@@sammydavis991 Can you please expand on that?
I would buy one. Today
@@lindawick455 If it’s offered in the USA and Canada which sadly isn’t.
If you want something of similar size, there’s the Audi Q4 e-tron.
Would you take this over the RDX? Prices are pretty darn close, depending on options.
Thanks for the great review as always This new BMW does not stand out and the rear is awkward bad. Interior is a pass for me also. More power isn't always better. Toronto traffic is mostly stop and go every day and all hours.
Great review! We just leased one. Except, marginal stereo, seats not so comfortable.
Great video. This vehicle is very nice and good price. I understand need for buttons but with touchscreen, they may not going back. Interior is an awesome tho. 👍🏻👍🏻☕️☕️
BMW is offering a full digital experience now with the iDrive 8 operating system. Although I miss the buttons, the system is very good.
@@andreaspencer9813 👍🏻👍🏻
Hope to see a review on the new X1 M35xi this Fall.
Andrea and Zach, which year or generation was your favourite for design for the X1?
I had a brilliant test drive….just ordered one 👍
Great video! Love the Bob Marley and Wailers take 😂
Isn't it hard to reach the storage compartment under centre armrest?
Interesting how this is smaller and shorter than the GLB but has more cargo room yet the interior passenger space is very similar.
Would you be reviewing x1 2024 m35 i any time sooner?
When it comes to dynamics, the original X1 feels the best as it had the most "classic BMW" driving feel despite of its poor interior packaging and questionable styling. The 2nd and 3rd generations have lost that BMW handling edge. But interior packaging and styling have made strides, in a more mainstream manners.
Says you.
Hi guys could you revisit this car when the new M35i version comes out.? ATB from the UK
Good luck to your bills tom, I’m a NY giant fan for 50 yrs.😢😅😊
I asked on your Instagram page for this 2023 x1 - does it include the always-excluded blind-spot monitor ?? Not a mention of it here in this review… ❓❓❓❓❓
Zack, bang on about Kia ..
Is it worth your money 💯
Did you find any lag in second gear? And did the start/stop feature where the engine shuts off get annoying?
Test drove one the other day and I didn’t even know it had stop start engine until the sales rep told me. I was surprised it did. That’s how quiet and none intrusive it is.
Didn’t find any lag. Was punchier than the X3 I drove right before hand … surprisingly fun to drive.
Long awaited.
Yes, so happy we can finally stare this one!
I'd rather have the buttons for less distracted driving when changing settings on the go
seems like missing to mention the price of your tested vehicle?
We did sorry about that, just over $55,000 CAD.
Bmw x1 👍
How will it look when it’s in the shop getting repaired at $225/ hr?
Between this one and The Mercedes GLA 250 which one rides Better ?
The fact that the VW Taos offers ventilated seats but most of the luxury subcompact SUVs (the X1 included) don't is so insulting
I haven't like the appearance of a BMX in quite a while. I don't like this model either; but at least this model looks like a super model compared to it's fugly sibling the iX.
I saw one in the real yesterday and it makes the Pontiac Aztek look like high design.
Does it look like a Forrester? Getting those vibes.
RFT or otherwise the Front suspension noise is very heart breaking, a/c is poor in tropical climate, battery life only 24 months. Likes > very crisp handling, drivers pleasure.
Amazing!!!!!!!!!😍😍😍😍
Back reminds me of a crv
Is this Phytonic Blue?
Wait, doesn't this have a 48 volt mild hybrid system?
Great job as always!.
I like the interior, not the exterior. Good news the UX is improving.
Mostly, I wish they added some electrification to the powertrain. A rear electric motor, powered by a small sub-5kWh battery, would transform the potential. Faster acceleration, AWD, regen braking.
I don’t understand how they managed to make the UX so small in the cabin. It’s the same length as the X1, yet feels so much smaller inside. Lexus really messed up the int scaling of the UX.
My favs ❤
Thank you and thanks for watching!
