The ordering of the songs they played was brilliant. This was the first song they played - it got the crowd involved with something a little pop-like. They knew who they were playing for. MTV. Once they got the hook in and set it, then they hit the audience with Evolve to reel them in. Absolutely brilliant, IMHO.
    PS - PAU-Bell... Not Cow Bell... 🙂

when DPA/TW play *MORE* live, it hits harder and has a rougher, grungier sound than the studio version in the OMV... the OMV is a fun video with DPA/TW playing and dancing around on a set that has a huge number of hidden easter eggs that long time followers will spot easily... for me, that brings back some memories of the fun videos we used to see on MTV back when it actually was "music videos all the time"... yes, i saw MTV's first broadcast when they officially came on the air 😹
i'm quite proud and happy for DPA/TW for making these milestone appearances at two MTV functions, the MIAW in CDMX (back in Aug 2023) and the VMAs in NY&NJ (Extended Stage) (in Sep 2023)... three additional milestones are 1) they are the first Mexican band to perform at the VMAs, and 2) they were invited to perform, and 3) they were not nominated for anything... that speaks volumes in a great and huge way! now add to that they have been doing this for 10 years and, right now, most of that was while independent... i would also be remiss if i didn't mention that this performance was real unlike the other groups that also performed here... DPA/TW did both of their songs fully live and in one take while the others lip synced and took all three takes of which the ""best"" was selected for airplay... DPA/TW were also the only ones to be announced on the main stage when it was time to present their performance...
yes, they have been playing longer than 10 years but that includes while they were learning and starting to become proficient at their art and individual instruments... in a vlog they made a couple of years ago, Pau mentions that she has been drumming for 13 years... she was 19 at that time... that was 2 years ago... it is hard to believe, but quite obvious once you have watched them a few times, that they have been playing their instruments for 15 years and playing together as a band for 10 years... we won't even mention how this all started because of the game Rock Band 😹

They talk about their introduction to music which began very early. Each started by playing classic piano. At some point, their dad Luis bought the game Rock Band and Pau would play drums while Dany played guitar. Ale was too young so she'd clap. Eventually Luis asked Dany if she'd like to play another instrument and Dany said guitar. He did the same with Pau, and she chose drums. Ale was still too young so she played piano. They would sit and watch classic rock concerts on disk of bands like Queen and AC/DC. Ale, who had said she wanted to play the harp, instead fell in love with the sound of the bass. "I don't know what it is, but I want to play that!" she told her father. They would practice and play independently, taking lessons from some really good teachers in Monterrey. At some point, not too long after Ale began, they had an epiphany. "We can play these instruments...together." The rest is history, but still playing out in real time right before us.

All this - and Pau demonstrated a lot of natural rhythm even while playing the drum controller for the game. It was hard finding a drum instructor for her, though because she was diminutive even for a little kid. She says she looked like a toddler. But they finally found a teacher who took her under wing and developed her natural ability into a skill. She worked with several others since but the most prominent of the lot is Beto Ramos, a famous Mexican drummer. His style meshes well with Pau's hard driving, hard hitting style.

Great reaction! Early in 2023 TW decided to work with outside writers for the first time in their career. More is the first song released that came from that collaboration. Those songwriters are Anton Delost (also the producer) and Niko Rubio. Besides just for the fun of experimenting, IMO I believe that this was a very calculated move to get something a little more contemporary radio friendly to attract "more" attention. It worked as it got huge airplay and again IMO the reason why MTV invited them to play even though they didn't have any nominations. More was the no brainer in being performed first, bait the hook and then slam them with a healthy dose of Evolve! Those two full length MTV performances received a HUGE amount of attention. All of the social platforms were inundated with traffic. Online music sites were abuzz as well as the online site of fashion magazines Vanity Fair and Cosmopolitan for what they wore in this performance and also for the black latex dresses that they wore on MTV's Pink carpet. Yes there is a video of them being interviewed there as well as an official TW video of all the behind the scenes preparation and MTV's show producer saying "Holy Shit" after their performance. TW always rises to the occasion! 💖✨🔥⚡🚀🤘🏽

You can thank the video game Rock band for them each playing different instruments.
Pau says she gravitated to the drums because she likes to hit things and Dany plays guitar because she liked the whole rockstar vibe of being a guitarist and Pau wouldn’t let her play the drums anyways.
Ale was too small to play the game with her sisters so she watched and clapped. Ale’s first instrument of choice was a harp but they couldn’t find anyone to give her lessons so the bass was the next thing that interested her.
Thank God for that because I don’t think a harp was gonna work in a 3 piece.
After they were all old enough to take lessons they played piano first after school and then later practiced their individual instruments. It was a few months or so of them playing separately until they realized they had the makings of a band and, as they say, the rest is history.

    • @mjc1389
      @mjc1389 8 месяцев назад +2

@@monicamansour3525 perhaps I could have phrased things less ambiguously.
Yes, I’m well aware of the timelines of when DPA started piano lessons and picked up their current instruments.
I didn’t want to write a novel or a biography in the comment section.
I tried to imply that it wasn’t long after Ale picked up the bass that they started playing together.
I appreciate the clarification on your end which, to me, symbolizes the passion of the TWA and the desire to properly educate any newcomers to band as well as those of us who are newer recruits.
I realize their story isn’t necessarily “normal” but it’s such a wonderful story that it deserves to be annotated correctly. Thank You 😊

The drummer, Pau, sings lead on a number of songs including 23, Dust-to-Dust, Narcisista, Revenant. She also sings lead parts in several other songs. She is also the principal songwriter. Go with 23 for a power ballad of sorts, Disciple for hard rock showcasing all their talents, Queen of the Murder Scene for something heavier, Revenant for acoustic, Martirio for Spanish, Koolaid Kids for social criticism...But really any song from Teatro Metropolitan is worth a listen.

This song is way different from all their other stuff. Still a banger though. Also, wonder no more about their start.. .here is a ~20 minute documentary about them that many people reacted to. Do it! Do it Do it! ruclips.net/video/s7iQG0ug4HI/видео.html

I think she originally used a wood block but not for long. It's a metal cowbell mounted to her drum rack.

@@lonelywind3511 Yeah, definitely not a metal cowbell on the studio recording, but definitely one in live performances now - I guess she wanted to "cut through" more?

@@billholder1330probably. The first few times they played it live, she did use the plastic block.

As a drummer myself, I can say that the one in this performance is a metal one. 😊
