Here is a project that I stumbled on when trying to make a more serious build with the LGA775 platform, however upon completing that build I realised that the DDR2 memory was seriously holding it back... So armed with a cheap 9800GT and some other PC parts that I picked up from my local junk store, - I decided to make what would be known as the CS:GO Potato...
Though to my surprise this thing wasn't exactly a potato. Another thing about this build is the old school graphics card that is, although fairly old, still able to get up and boogy with some of the most popular titles out there in the PC scene, with one game in particular in mind - CS:GO. I will test league and dota 2 and post back here later.

depends on the day, but if its humid I will put it in front of heater on low. But usually 30 mins is good enough.

so i just finished building this pc, i wouldn't say it's exactly $70 (obviously) i ended up spending around $115 by using ebay, amazon, newegg, etc. and i got around 65-95 fps in csgo medium-high settings, and on low i ended up with around 110-125fps which isn't bad for this pc.

Really enjoyed this video. I will mention that i am very much so interested in how many frames per second you would have gotten if you played the game at the lowest settings, 1600*900 instead. Also must mention that CS:GO perform the very best on windows7, so that would also be interesting to see with this build. Last remaining factors would be core unparking and a proper autoexec file with the right launch options enabled for maximum compatibility and performance.
A practiced player might even get to Global rank with that, don't count that out completely. Hell, overclock the monitor and you got yourself a real shot at it at 75Hz+!

That's why before buying a pre-made or custom gaming pc you should always ask yourself "What am i buying this for?" and "What am i going to use it for?". Because in fact you dont need much to run the games or other stuff that you need to run.

On a game meant to run on the crappiest of PCs. It's well known that AMD usually lasts longer than NVIDIA.
Brian, love your videos. Have an Asus p5d 2.66 ghz core 2 quad 8 gb DDr2. Use it for surfing and have a bunch of early/mid 90's game loaded on this and have a blast playing my old favorites on this old machine.. When I was playing these in the 90's I was on an old AT K6 475... Traded out the old AT for an Athlon 2000XP atx board and cpu..Except for the new ATX mobo /cpu combo am using it still 23 years later. Still performs like a dream and the Mechwarrior 4 stuff plays great with my old AGP Geforce 2... though have gotten a newer AGP card to tryout to see the max graphics settings I can squeeze out of the game. Only use it sporadically now but still love that old setup. I have loved all the x58 vids you've made and it is one of my favorites to put together now. I have 5 more 58's in the que now not counting the new 10/11th gen toys I have upcoming. Was doing pc's full time in the 90's 2000's but got out of it in 2001 but now I'm retired and having fun doing this once again.. keeps me mostly off the streets. Keep it coming. Craig

Just upgraded my dad's PC for Christmas with some of my older parts:
AMD Phenom X4 @ 2.4GHz upgraded to AMD Phenom II X4 820 @ 3.4GHz
GTS 250 (8800 GTX) upgraded to Radeon 6950 2GB
So now I have the leftover Phenom and GTS 250 to sell or use in some other system haha

Pumpkin Paladin I wouldn't have a problem if Minecraft ran consistently worse than CS:GO, it's just the FPS goes all over the place. One moment I'm at 120, the next I'm at 600. It's really annoying when it dips in the middle of PVP.

I get like 60 fps in dust 2 and in like vertigo or new nuke I get around 40 fps and I spent $950 for a shitty laptop and I bought it 2 years ago with i5 4200U and integrated graphics card.

I had never used a Xeon prior to this, but man it was great fun upgrading from a Core 2 Duo to a quad core Xeon for $20 with a bit of modding.
Hopefully we'll be able to bolt awesome Xeons into LGA1151 or something and get more similar upgrades in the future. You never know.

+Diavolo222 you can get a phenom II for quite cheap, and a phenom II x4 is easily on par with a q6600 or even an i5 750. and you can get an athlon x4 for a dollar often times, and that won't bottleneck a low end gpu. doesn't need to be low end, just needs to be old. and back in the day amd were doing way better compared to the intels of the period than they are doing now.

I'm using a 775 board with 8gb ddr3 and x5460. Still using it now. It just rocks.
I picked up an Acer Aspire the other day for £40, i7 860, 3.6ghz turbo (had to update BIOS to get the turbo to run, was sticking to 1.9ghz before), 4gb 1333mhz RAM (bought another 4GB for £10), 640gb HDD, Radeon 5450 512gb graphics card which I'm on the hunt for a 750ti or r7 380/r9 270 for around £30-40. Got it mainly for automated background photoshop tasks and rendering but also for old school LAN gaming, but with a new card and the extra RAM I got, I think it could keep up with 99% of modern games at low-medium settings. All for a total of approx. £80-90.

Just got a bunch of PCs for $10 each. One is a LGA 775 build with an Asus p5k deluxe with a core2duo, 450watt PSU, 250gb HDD in an old cooler master case (looks good too) gpu wasn't even worth mentioning, but for $10 I'll take it. That mobo alone is fairly pricey. Also came with about 6gb ddr2.

brake cleaner is good, but be careful with one thing, BC in can acts as penetrator medium and due to some changes in the flux and solder in the last year it can crack the joint. My good advise (and way cheaper) is to buy it in barrel (dont know how in kangaroo land, but here cost 10L keg the same amount like 20 cans) and just use those refillable push pressure spray thingies.

I wouldn't risk spraying brake cleaner on soldered parts, you never know.

Yeah its basically because of the trade off, in a chain gun fight i remember always needing a full clip, so if you can reload when you can its always a good thing.
