I can't tell you how delighted and"justified" I feel about this review. I've worn Penhaligon's for years and years, sticking close to the classic fragrances, Blenheim Bouquet and my personal fave, Quercus. I never mind the lack of duration that many complain of from these scents and P's in general. First of all, I wear fragrances for me, not others, so I like the subtler scents for their privacy. Also, I quite enjoy changing what I'm wearing once or twice in a day. With less beefy scents, I can lightly rinse my neck in the loo and apply something different. I was stunned last time I shopped for Quercus -- it smelled entirely different, much more heft, I suppose you could say modernized. After sniffing through most of P's line, I settled on Sartorial, not as a Quercus substitute, but as a new experience -- sophisticated, bracing, yes, stronger, (I've adjusted) yet still with the softer refreshing value so characteristic of Penhaligon's. You've captured it wonderfully, here. Has anyone tried T.Ford's OUD MINERALE? I'm curious.
Penhaligon's is one of my very favorite fragrance houses. Sartorial is their scent that first introduced me to them (along with the Sartorial shaving soap and aftershave balm), but I've collected MANY if their fragrances. Next I recommend Blenheim Bouquet, which was made by William Penhaligon himself well over 100 years ago; it still stands as an amazing fragrance to this day! It is Lemon, bergamot, lavender, oakmoss and musk. Beautiful, simple, elegant, gentlemanly. Then there is Lothair, which was another fragrance commissioned by Penhaligon's to Bertrand Duchafor. Stephen, you would really, truly love this one! It has the same ending base as Sartorial: a warm, ambery, vanilla finish, but it's top and heart are completely different. It has a lot of green fig leaf, woods and tea; while Sartorial paints a picture of a tailor's workshop, Lothair conjures an historic British clipper ship, laden with all the spoils offered by Empire on which the sun never sets. Truly outstanding. Other notables I've worn are Opus 1870 (oak, oak, oak), Endymion (coffee EdC), Juniper Sling (this is gin and tonic: herbaceous and effervescent), and Bayolea (their modem twist on a bay rum). My fiancé LOVES the bottle of Empressa that I bought her, too. I've tried many more, and liked almost every that I've sniffed... That is, excluding English Fern...yuk!
Greetings from Ireland Steven. I must say, I really enjoy your reviews, very candid and not attention seeker, always professional. By the way, have you tried Halfeti by Penhaligon?
Glad to see Penhaligon's Steve!! I discovered them when I got into wet shaving years ago and have loved Sartorial ever since!! Endymion is another favorite of mine.
That makes two of us. Steve's got to get into DR Harris, Geo F. Trumper, Castle Forbes, Taylor of Old Bond. St, Czech & Speake, and Truefitt & Hill. I think he would be amazed if he tried the Fine Accoutrements line of aftershaves that are all based on famous fragances. He can start with Fine Platinum that's based on Aventus. That smoky pineapple note is there at the start. Stirling Soap also has an excellent line.
Shave- a-thon I'm starting to move away from the aftershaves into either unscented or just menthol. I still have a few Fine and WSP brands that later well. But for the most part I like the better fragrances to stand alone. For me the Trumpers Sandalwood and TOBS are nauseating. The AOS one is heavenly though. I know, so many different tastes lol.
I'm surprised about the Trumpers Sandalwod. It gets very high ratings on Fragrantica and is considered one of the most powerful cologne formulations around: www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Geo-F-Trumper/Sandalwood-Cologne-5006.html I think the AOS sandalwood is discontinued. I have the Fine Santal Absolut aftershave which is based on the AOS sandalwood. Have you smelled the Fine version and what do you think? I only purchase aftershaves these days if they're known to be powerful. I don't like the fleeting scents. I compare everything to Aqua Velva Musk in terms of longevity. AV Musk lasts 5 hours or more. and projects like an Edt for the first hour or two.
Shave- a-thon yes the fine brand is a dead ringer for AOS sandalwood. The AOS fragrance is the new sandalwood Cyprus. The old sandalwood is discontinued. The Trumpers is definitely strong but for not pleasant AT ALL. It really smelled like a stale old man at a bingo parlor. The TOBS smells very medicinal to me.
Hi Stephen , Max made a barber shop top 10 video and this fragrance came up, found a 100ml bottle for £38 and seen nothing but good reviews. I have another hobby which is shaving, I find it very therapeutic and love the sandlewood scented shaving cream by TOBS which gives a barber shop feel and smell, I need this fragrance to enhance my shaving experience. Clean cut, clean shave and clean scent ... SOLD!!!
I wrote him a few months ago telling him how great this was. Would you really consider Penhaligon's a niche scent? Those of us in the wet shaving community eventually are introduced to all the old English labels who make terrific stuff that the usual fragrance community ignores for the most part. In addition tp Penhaligon's, there's DR Harris, Geo F. Trumper, Castle Forbes, Taylor of Old Bond. St, Czech & Speake, and Truefitt & Hill. A few of them issue sandalwood colognes that are terrific.
I like too,but in my local storyies is sveral batches 2016 in small box and new wide box..and I love levanthium very match..in my local story are three batches:2014 vintage..2015 and 2016..do you know whitch is best to buy?vintage has more greenish box..they are not..
I love Penhaligon's I have so many from this great house this is one of the ones I like, but does not wear well on me. I have bought it as a gift for some of my friends, great review as always take care MJ
I have Lothair,Douro,Castile, juniper sling, orange blossom, luna, endymion (both new and original) Vaara,Gardenia and Artemisia.Malabah is next on my list....oh and much ado about the Duke...there are many.. take care
Stanleydragonjr What's your take on the Endymion Concentre? I've thought about getting it because I love Endymion, but its performance is abysmal, so I'm hoping the Concentre version projects better and last longer, while smelling the same. what do you think?
This is a great one! I got a bottle in the day before you posted this. Smells great, classy, and is amazing performance for a fougere. Yes, this is a 10 of 10 for me.
Steven, A video I've never seen anyone make; u should create a top 10 video regarding your most disappointing fragrances and also the top 10 frags that u wished had better performance or maybe your top 10 frags that you'd like to see released as EDP
HI Steven You becoming better and better week after week ,month after month, and year after year. Excellent informative review. Its not my kind of fragrance judging by your description but, however , i am intrigued so i will try a sample(if i can find one) ,maybe for nostalgic purposes.
Hi, Steven First and foremost, you did a great video in all facets of the fragrance review. Good job! I'm new to your channel as I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to men's fragrances. I been doing extensive research on the best online site to shop for fragrances. Let me ask you this, do you trust Notino? Notino has quite a bit of feedback and multiple complaints about the fragrances being imitations.
Endymion is absolutely heavenly but as far as "performance" Penhaligons seems to lack quote a bit. It's an EDC I get it but any ideas on getting better performance on it? Honestly some night I put on Endymion even at home because I love the scent so much.
I really enjoy your sense of scents. Your reviews are pretty spot on with my likes/dislikes so I think Sartorial might be a safe blind buy for me. If you solicit ideas for review shows, I would like to see an "Old School Frags" show--scents that have stood the test of time and are still strong contenders--Dior Eau Sauvage EDT, Chanel Pour Monsieur, and the like. Eau Sauvage has been my summer signature for years.I like to keep current with newest scents, but dang it I keep reaching for these old standbys!!
I’m kind of an oddball for my generation as I was only born in 1991 yet Aromatic Fougeres are by far and away my favorite type of fragrance. Beau de Jour, Gravitas Pour Homme & Pasha de Cartier are my jam. I’ve had my eye in this in particular for a while it is unique in that it is an EDT, the vast majority of Fougeres I own are EDP’s & Parfums. I think the notes of Honey & Leather are excellent choices for an Aromatic Fougere and what make this particular fragrance so unique and alluring in contrast to others. Also to me I’m not sure which country it was that started the Aromatic Fougere Genre but every UK & French house should at the very least have at least 1 stellar offering such as this as they are both homes to the best Lavenders & it is such a prominent key note in the genre. Thank you so much as well Stephen for the suggestions you mentioned at the end of the video I haven’t heard of some of those & I’m always looking to expand my Fougere Library. ✌️ 💚
I absolutely love it too mate, I am really loving the barber shop vibe fragrances and I have to give this a try too. Rive Gauche and Azzaro Pour Homme are also worth checking out as alternatives to MMM ATB.
I really LOVE barbershop fragrances (and aromatic fougeres in general) but I find "MMM - At The Barber's" too synthetic for my taste. I can't stand it.
From penhaligons myself i heard this fragrance was supposed to represent a men's tailors, the metallic representing the scissors and the cleanness from the lavender and clean cloth.
Love this one - I also have English Fern, Endymion and Opus 1870, but Sartorial is a class above. Could you share your views on English Fern if you get the chance, it has a rich soapy note (cloves) which is not for everyone but I find it irresistible. Thanks for sharing by the way.
hello..do you know levanthium of Penhaligons?in my local story are three batches:2014 vintage..2015 and 2016..do you know whitch is best to buy?vintage has more greenish box..they are not..I love sartorial too..
I tried it and liked it, but it's a bit too "serious" and "gentlemanly" for me. I believe it is better suited for someone who is 30+ years old, and as I am still a student, I feel some of younger scents work better for me.
Can you make a top 10 budget friendly masculine colognes? Like the Glenn Perri adventure and the Lomani Black Intense? I purchased the Cuba Royal and the Cuba Prestige like you recommended but I didn't like them. I feel like the Royal smells like a Women's perfume and the Prestige smells like a old lady lol 😂 I'd appreciate and thanks for doing what you do! 😊👍🏻
I really like this fragrance but it feels like I'm too young to wear it. It's a 30+ years fragrance. The only time I could probably wear it at this age is after getting a fresh haircut in a suit.
this is and interesting house and i wish 18.21 man made would take this company as and inspiration lol, my brother loves this house and they do make some gentleman exclusive scents very nice, great take steve..
Blue is your color! Great review! I love Penhaligons, they arrived at my favorite mall about a year ago and since I've purchased several fragrances from them. I have Bayolea, Iris Prima, Equinox Bloom and Lothair. Next on my wish list from them is the Tragedy of Lord George.
Great review Steve. Quick question: how would you place Sartorial in comparison to MFK Pluriel? In terms of masculinity and that barbershop vibe. Cheers!
What fragrance do you think has the most unique bottle? PS great review once again keep up the great work buddy 😊👍 & I smell good now thanks to you lol
Steven, i'd love to hear your thoughts on Kiehl's Original Musk EDT. It's one of the cheaper musks out there but the scent and longevity is top notch in my opinion. I haven't seen a lot of reviews for it here at the youtube frag comm and it'd be cool if you could check it out.
I don't believe I have! I will be on the lookout for it. I know they have a boutique at World Trade Center in Manhattan. The next time I'm in that part of town, I will certainly check it out. Thank you for bringing it to my attention, Brian. I hope you're having a great day.
Redolessence I love the oriental scents and I saw they have two oriental scents I defitently want to try. Oud de nil and Alizarin. I trust your reviews so I wanted to know what you thought. 😊 You have a blessed day as well .
Sartorial is an extremely classy and classic smelling men's fragrance. It sort or reminds me of a niche version of Brut by Faberge, but Sartorial has much more interesting notes happening.
I also LOVE the smell, so I sprayed it on a handkerchief I keep in my drawer so I get the whiff every time it opens and I can enjoy it. I do love this one on my husband and bought it for him.

Ben Heinatz would you mind rating yours by performance and projection? That's how I determine what fragrances to pull the trigger on.
Greetings from Ireland Steven. I must say, I really enjoy your reviews, very candid and not attention seeker, always professional. By the way, have you tried Halfeti by Penhaligon?
Steven another stunning review! You indeed are the most comprehensive reviewer! Flawless and utterly professional!
+Scent Land Thank you so much, my brother! That means a lot to me!
Cheers
This is a reference scent within its genre! Love wearing this dressed up... Class in a bottle for sure. Great review Steve. Congratulations!
Glad to see Penhaligon's Steve!! I discovered them when I got into wet shaving years ago and have loved Sartorial ever since!! Endymion is another favorite of mine.

Redolessence I got it from Notino as well, they got amazing deals :)
Anitei Vlad Yeah, I am very glad that they have so many niche brands.

Lavender! I am endlessly drawn to lavender based. fragrances. Will definitely snag a decant. Great review, thanks!

Gulam Allie That is so nice of you to say! Thank you for watching!
I smelled this last summer at a mall and instantly loved it. Awesome barbershop scent....gotta get me some of this!
Bought it yesterday for the first time, I have it on now and I just love it.
I'm glad you like it!

Nice job! Just got a bottle of Sartorial. What a wonderful scent. I'm excited to wear this one.
Thank you! I love this scent!
Great review Steven as usual.
I've been wanting to try something from this house but for the hot weather.
Thanks for the review, Steven. This is a great Sharp Dressed Man scent!

Wet Shaving Fraghead Thank you so much for the feedback. I really appreciate you watching my videos.
Sartorial is very long lasting.
Has anyone tried using molecule 01 with any of penhaligons fragrances?
Endymion now also comes as a perfume. Same sent only stronger. www.penhaligons.com/mobile/endymion-concentre-eau-de-parfum/
Steven HAS to be the most sophisticated man in the frag com
Camren AC That means a lot to me, Camren!
i echo that sentiment.
Thank you, everyone!
I can’t even say phossissacated

Great video, thumbs up. Have you done a review of their Lp No9? One of my top 5 for colder weather.
SAFADOVIC I haven't done a review of that one. Thank you for the recommendation, and thank you for watching!
I have smelled this one. Unique and classy. Great review as always.
panchopantera7912 Thank you for watching!
Not that unique, it resembles BRUT.
love the a*men collection in the background one of my favorite houses.
Can we do more Penhaligons? I need your opinion on this house!
I was hesitating to buy this, but now i think i'll buy :) thanks to you
Łukasz S Thank you very much for watching!
Great review Steven!!
Love this one - I also have English Fern, Endymion and Opus 1870, but Sartorial is a class above. Could you share your views on English Fern if you get the chance, it has a rich soapy note (cloves) which is not for everyone but I find it irresistible. Thanks for sharing by the way.

I'm sorry, but I'm not too familiar with that one. Have a great day.
Thanks.but witch batch is good of penhaligons vintage or newests?
I don’t know if there’s something wrong with my bottle of Sartorial but it lasts 18 hours on my skin, maybe it’s just made for me, I don’t know
I tried it and liked it, but it's a bit too "serious" and "gentlemanly" for me. I believe it is better suited for someone who is 30+ years old, and as I am still a student, I feel some of younger scents work better for me.
Xozzen I totally respect that! Thank you for watching!
Keep up the great work!
Hi Steven, I have 2 review requests :) 1- Nuhi NUHI for men , 2- anything by :Parfums Guy Delforge. Thanks
I love this too. I lasts beastly on me...I have several penhaligon scents. this is my favorite
+tom clyce Love hearing that!
This is one of absolute favorites! I just wished it lasted a little longer
Ken Durocher I know what you mean! Thank you for watching!
I understand where you're coming from. Wear what you like!
I like the honey nite, which makes it a fougere that works in cooler months, given I normally associate fougeres with the spring
Is it weird that I'm a girl and I love men's cologne? Being honest i really want this
Not weird at all!
Lol my family says its weird I have a bunch of mens cologne they say its weird for me being 18 lol I love your vids I will be watching more of them :)
Liquid doesn’t have genitalia if you like the scent wear it! Most my perfumes are “unisex or female”
Can you please explain what a metallic scent smells like? Hear that often and have no idea. Thanks.
this is and interesting house and i wish 18.21 man made would take this company as and inspiration lol, my brother loves this house and they do make some gentleman exclusive scents very nice, great take steve..
Rob Whiff Thank you very much for watching!
excellent review of a top class fragrance!
Stefanos Stefan Thank you very much!
John M Thank you for the kind words! Hmmm. I really like the presentations of Kilians, Amouages, and Rojas!
I've been looking to find a review of Oud de nil from this company. Have you tried that fragrance?
I don't believe I have! I will be on the lookout for it. I know they have a boutique at World Trade Center in Manhattan. The next time I'm in that part of town, I will certainly check it out. Thank you for bringing it to my attention, Brian. I hope you're having a great day.
Redolessence I love the oriental scents and I saw they have two oriental scents I defitently want to try. Oud de nil and Alizarin. I trust your reviews so I wanted to know what you thought. 😊 You have a blessed day as well .
Is it me or it smells like Amouage’s reflection 45? Maybe the lavender n mettalic noted
What other fragrences from Penhaligon's have you tried? Would you recommend any others? If you have tried Halfeti what did you think about it?
Cleander Yu I have tried Endymion. I would highly recommend that one!
For sure! I've bought that one and I love the coffee accord!
hey steven ;) can u make a review on lothair ? thank you!
I have it. I love it.
How would you compare this to my favourite Acqua di Parma Essenza? Thanks a lot!
Acqua di Parma is much fresher whereas this has more of an emphasis on the fougere elements.
@@Redolessence So, would you say that Sartorial is more formal and wintry? Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated!
Yes, you're right! I agree.
I have a this in my rotation. I would call it instant classic.
Thanks for watching!
In late September 2021, a bottle is $160 on Amazon.
Its not a "bow" its a bow tie, just my guess.
Steven everyone seems to have overlooked "1962" by Floris. Definitely work a look I think.
Yes! That's a good one.
I know this video was from 3 years ago, but does anyone know if there is a dupe/clone for this magnificent cologne?
Sartorial is an extremely classy and classic smelling men's fragrance. It sort or reminds me of a niche version of Brut by Faberge, but Sartorial has much more interesting notes happening.
CC33777 You are so right! Sartorial is a sexy, classy, higher quality Brut! Very well said, my man.
Interesting fragrance!
Alfre P. Indeed! Thank you for watching!
How do I check the batch code on my bottle? I can't find it
I’m a 19 year old girl who loves sartorial and Endymion cologne. Am I weird???😂
Not at all!
Lemon Ade nope
No, not weird. In your last life you were probably a man
I also LOVE the smell, so I sprayed it on a handkerchief I keep in my drawer so I get the whiff every time it opens and I can enjoy it. I do love this one on my husband and bought it for him.
I just bought it ...I’m a woman! Katie Puckrick recommended it for women!
The best by far with Radcliffe a close second.
How many sprays do you use?
Ken Durocher I do about 4 or 5. Thank you for watching!
Steven please review MFK Baccarat Rouge 540, I want your opinion on that one)
I'm a big fan of your reviews. I own several Penhaligons perfumes. Do yourself a favor a buy Blasted Heath. it is remarkable!
For some weird reason it reminds me a bit of Dolce and Gabbana Pour Homme. No where exact nut similar.
can you define "barbershop fragrance" please? hear it all the time, no idea what it means lol
Rich Mitch where do you get your hair cut? Go to your neighborhood barber and you’ll learn smell
do you have a PO BOX?
my friend, that is not a bow! It is a bow-tie! Which is very Sartorial! ; )

I just ordered on fragrancex for 135.00

Platinum egoiste metallic ?
Thanks for watching.
Is this in the same ball park ass azzaro pour homme?
The Azzaro is much more green whereas this fragrance is a bit more powdery and centered around the note of lavender.
