A really cool Elden Ring challenge run i came up with, i though it was going to be a much bigger disaster but it turned into one of the most fun challenges!
Also guys if you have your opinions and reactions on how my future content should be, and any other general things about the content, please post them into the comments below!

My guess why the death rite bird dies is that there is a kill box in the air that supposed to kill you if you fall of the bridge instead of fall damage, and when the bird jumps there it just hits the kill box and dies
A likely explanation. Pretty interesting though.
The deathbird near castle sol does the same thing - if it jumps up it can get stuck on the cliff and die.
To my knowledge this bug applies not only to deathbirds but to large flying bosses in general. Have seen several cases with dragons when they got stuck in elevations and ended up killing themselves as well.
@@dimaudalow also the Night knight from weeping peninsula got stuck in the trees and just got wrecked in front of me
@@fjparasite1172 i wonder if bosses also get the same command as players do when they get stuck the game kills you after a certain amount of time to reset your character
I’m choosing to believe that the deathbird jumped into Raya Lucaria’s protective bubble (the one you need a key to get through) which instant killed it.
Uhhh, that actually sounds really plausible, ill choose to believe that as well
If Tibia's summons, summoned actual skeletons it would have been an amazing spell.
I decided to try it out in pvp and it’s not completely bad bc it did around 1.6k damage when all landed but what sucks is if theyre moving it’s not going to land so you can do a set up with Explosive Ghostflame and most people will back up and stay there till the fire goes away and that’s when you can do the Tibias Summons bc they won’t expect you to use that spell and it has decent range……..but in pve it’s really bad
Explosive flame was made stronger with more frost build up to all parts of the spell (feels slightly sped up?) but if you don't have Endure, more than likely you'll still be hit at start up
This is why I check spells myself rather then listening to cc’s. Ghost flame explosion was made much better and ancient death rancor was already better then above average pre1.07

I like how the "Death Sorceries Only" run became an "Ancient Death Rancor Only" run.
Would´ve been nice to see the other Death sorceries, or at least Death´s Poker/Death Rite Spear.
Agreed, mistakes where made in this run... now i try to use all the spells in these runs!
Death as a theme is incredibly ramshackle in this game.
You get some weapons, you get some spells, you get some thematically similar or fitting items and armor.
By the end of the game you might actually have a full build!
Personally, due to the nature of int/fai scaling I include thorn and Godskin spells as well as destined death spell as "thematically death related" because this game is creatively bankrupt when it comes to designing death magic as a whole.
For me the best thing about these videos is seeing what the TRUE potential of specific sorceries or items is in ER. Because you focus your build on just a few spells. Like magma sorceries for example. So not upgrading your staff takes that aspect away 😭
Hmm, i see youre point, but by not upgrading it you need to focus on different forms of power ups more. Tho i did upgrade them completely at the end anyways haha
he gave up and maxed a lusats, just to show hoe BAD the death sorcs really are!
To be fair, the Death sorceries don't really have a "best" staff option until late in the game. The Prince of Death's Staff (in theory, the best option) only surpasses other staffs with 50 Intelligence & 50 Faith (or if your stats are skewed, such as 75 Intelligence & 25 Faith -- as long as one is over 50). Even then, it's still far outclassed in terms of damage by Lusat's Staff if you have 80 Intelligence, which is far less demanding on your stats.
Given that Lusat's still takes some time to scale, the Meteorite Staff _is_ the optimal option for a good chunk of the game.
@@StrunDoNhor True but the prince of death staff will eventually outclass even Lusat's staff, with I think 70/70 or 80/80. But that's basically ng+
I think you should revisit this challenge, but use every death sorcery EXCEPT Ancient Death Rancor. See how yer strategies change

I did quite enjoy it, especially in the endgame.

vig 60, mind 25, end 20, dex/str 20, int 45, fth, 30, arc 9.
I used godfrey and radagon icons, ancestral spirit horn and erdtree favor +2 talismans.
Prince of death staff.
I no longer have that character since i deleted him for a new one so i can't tell you the dmg sry, i hope the rest helped.

Death sorceries are rather amazing now. Explosive Ghostflame has great damage, and even Tibia's Summons does good damage...if it lands.
I tested tibia summons... good f luck landing it haha
@@tototriceps I know right, but worth it when it does I feel. Like a cool combo would be to break poise with Ancient Death Rancor and then use Tibia's Summons.
@@TremeresRaspa It's still so slow that they may have enough time to just dodge roll it, Rosus summons is significantly better in nearly every way.
In my experience Fire Giant is infinitely easier if you’re *not* riding Torrent. Yes mounting and dismounting him gives you potential I-frames, but it’s definitely more finicky when compared to just dodge rolling.
Edit: To anyone who reads this, Im an avid mage player, so understanding the ebb and flow of fights is pretty much mandatory 😅
It’s just easier to roll through an attack rather than sprint around on torrent
Plus, you get Alexandre, who hits like a ceramic truck, though not really relevant for the video

I'm not big on horse combat at all so I was on horse for a brief period of time my first fight. Didn't like It so got off and found it so much easier
Yea using torrent that much for fire giant is a huge handicap. I understand using it to gap close when he rolls around, but using torrent the whole fight without dismounting just makes dodging impossible.
The death rite bird dies at that spot because the game probably believes its over a long drop and automatically kills the boss by fall damage, similar to how when you jump off the back of the bestial sanctum and miss the roots
Thats what i am also guessing, but i havent found confirmation yet
That deathbird glitch is from the "death zone" surrounding the bridge around Raya lucaria. Fall off the bridge, you die. Death bird touches the same area, dead.
Explosive ghostflame is underrated, I love that spell
I like it a bit in pvp, not so much in pve
I got that Deathbird glitch by accident during my playthrough. I was both glad and disappointed when it happened.

Same happened when I was going to fight red wolf of radagon. He did a leaping sword swing and got stuck on the globe and fell down and died on the first attempt…..
I know a lot of people didnt like how poise worked in ds1, but it was because of that poise that many spells in the game worked as well as they did. Ghostflame would have been far more efficient if you weren't interrupted just because an enemy breathed in your direction 🤷♂️

I love the ancient death rancor. Although its damage isn’t that great, it’s range and absurd homing abilities make it great for attacking enemies while keeping a safe distance. Beat Malenia on my first try with my mage build using it alone.
Yeah the best thing is you can fire a bunch of them before the target even aggros on you.

Fun fact: The death bird dies due to the fact that there is a death barrier above. Its also why you die if you hit it from falling down. Most likely a oversight thing or just bad coding on boss half.
1:13 I see a walkway up there so I think there's a death plane setup there to discourage the player from jumping down. The birb just manages to make it high enough to interact with it.

Ancient death rancor is all you need that spell is so powerful. It’s been my favourite death sorcery throughout my whole run. Haven’t yet found the death explosion as I haven’t reached the area it’s in! Looking forward to it though. Nice video 👍

1:23 probally already heard this but that specific area being right next to the bridge its probably a kill box so when it jumps there it just dies
Some guy check it out with cheat engine and yeah there is a kill box
The answer is that if any entity is in a falling animation for a set amount of time , it dies. The same occurs when the play jump attacks in certain places and dies.

I think the ancient death ran or is really powerful. I haven’t tried it much but I’ve seen a lot of others using it to take down pvp or enemies. It’s impressive ❤❤❤
Great video, amusing and interesting, but rancorcall is excellent, pre and especially post patch. rancorcall is very fp efficient in pve, and in pvp it often does more damage because of how defense works.
In my ignorance i havent tested it, which i definetly should have, but glad you still like the video :)
I got that glitch with the death rite bird, but since the sun was rising when it happened i thought it was scripted to die to sunlight

The reason the death rite bird Next to raya lucaria died when it flew up is it hit the death box for that area
The really funny thing about his usage of Lusat’s Staff, is that he lacked the stats for it, so he was doing significant damage even with it being neutered
He probably met the Int requirement but not the Strength requirement. Strength requirement only affects the bonk, so he was doing full damage with his spells.

I do hope we get some better death sorceries in the DLC. They're really neat and it'd be cool to have actually viable death builds.
There's a killplane placed their for when you fall from the bridge, so any entity that touches that killplane, just dies instantly
the deathbird dies because of the fall killbox under the bridge next to where it died, the killbox serves to kill the player when falling before they hit the ground. it deals like infinite damage.
The one time I’ve ever seen Tibia’s Summons being used is when a host summoned me for that one Erdtree Avatar in Calid near the Bestial Sanctum

The amount of content in this game I didnt even know that the Ruin Strewn Precipice even existed and Im almost on NG+2 lmao
I just beat NG+ with a death sorcery only build. ALL of the spells are good. In NG+, you can use the prince of death's staff which scales with Int and Faith and eventually get a sorcery scaling of like 450. Plus it boosts death sorceries.

The death rite bird near the Academy probably triggers a deathbox for a falling down player. Maybe that's the reason
The bird touches abit of the bridge as it flies up and then falls off that bridge dying to fall damage

There is a kill box in that location because with enough health you could survive that fall or survive it with the parry glitch.

Was this run performed before or after 1.08? All death sorceries where buffed in that patch (except for Fia’s mist)
As you can see from watching the video, the 1.07 patch was released near the end of the run. (1.08 doesn't exist. I assume that was a typo)

More Rot incantations would be lovely! Seeing more Black Flame, Blood, Frenzy, Beast, and many other categories being expanded with 2-4 new spells would be great.

CHRONO TRIGGER music the moment the challenge started was an instant indicator this vid is a banger
Alrighty! So I decided to put a hitbox viewer on, and it turns out, it flies into a deathplane. The area it jumps into is considered a bottomless pit, and as such because entities when entering falling animations will die due to no death planes being in boss arenas, the game just says "Oh they loaded in the wrong place." and kills it.
So we are right yea, makes sense cause Raya Lucaria is kinda closed of from the outside world, so a deathbox there would make sense

No falling animation means the Deathrite bird entered a death plane(no pun intended) that intersects that area.
Origin of that death plane most likely the bridge of Raya Lucara were the merchant is. A few weird intersections of specific death planes like this exist purely because of how certain areas were designed.
I would have used the death staff as you was scaling in both faith and intelligence its the higest scaling staff in the game such a good staff and also very entertaining run
The first glitch with the birb is becaus of coding the location numbers interact with the creature numbers
The value of placement is all numberd so that you cant fall out of the map or get randomly launched
When the birb lands the code of placement makes a vital error wich the system recognize as a simple solution delete the interfering code
The problem is that the auto deffence of the game doesnt corrects but deletes the entire code interacting with terain and becaus terain takes priority the birb gets deleted but becaus the entity gets deleted it acounts it as being slain to ensure that not everything from the game gets deleted

My level 309 character still uses death sorceries. At this point the damage is INSANE with ancient death rancor. If you charge it the poise dmg is decent too. Bringing me back to hex sorcerer ds2 and I love it.

I think this run will be painful but it seems very interesting i might do like a necromancer so only death sorceries and Necromancer esc weapons like the grave scythe or death poker maybe a bonus challenge could be getting all of the deathroots and killing all deathbirds

Fire Giant is a legit pain in the ass on ANY spellcaster build.
I never had issues with him until I fought him with a lightning build (my first caster).
I was constantly running out of FP, sometimes getting 1-shot. It was basically an endurance test of whether or not I could patiently whittle him during phase 1 with split damage or pathetic melee damage before realizing my old self-trained strats of "going behind and hitting the stump" was actually causing me to do negative damage with spells.
Fire Giant is the bane of every speedrun/challenge run
Try a melee build, I do strength/dex, so Burn, O’ Flame! (fire pillars) Are a pain in the ass because I can’t run away and do damage. Luckily, most of the other attacks aren’t too bad. But yeah, he has more resistance on the stump. The weak points in phase 2 are his forearms and chest eye.

Death bird hits a death box trigger...thats really about it
after the buff all 3 of the rancor spells are the only good death (one magma) sorceries.
Ghostflames does hit harder now and have a extremely good frost build up so extremely viable, but it’s all over the place so not reliable on bosses but worthy to use now if your okay with its limitations.
Tibia’s summons hit extremely hard if all skeletons hit but rarely happens so there’s just zero point in using it.
I've played 200+ hours of elden ring in the first few months and never knew death spell were a thing
I feel like these runs are becoming quite popular because of that
I'm doing my NG+ similar to this, except I'm only using skeletal summons. Going full necromancer

I’m assuming the reason the death bird does is because it jumps into a kill box that is supposed to kill toy when you fall off the bridge instead of fall dmg
while he definitely isn't dying to fall damage, i did actually have that liurnia death bird fall to his death, i think he hit a tree on his way down from spawning lmao

Btw I did a pest threads only run and had the same problem with the mimic tear so I actually made him overloaded so he couldn’t dodge or chase me
Very creative way to solve that problem actually!
You can cast Terra Magicka outside a bosses door and it will extend into the arena, helps with some bosses.

no need for datamining, simply put the bird flies into a deathzone/abyss that is below the bridge. So it dies.
