Oh Gina, listening to your story was giving me flashbacks. It's been June 27th. I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. I found a lump went and had a diagnostic mammogram. They did a biopsy of the lump and it came back as triple negative breast cancer. I was told it was the most aggressive cancer that you can have and I have to have a very aggressive chemo treatment as well. On September 7th I am going for a lymphocy centigram. I think it's called. Not happy about it because I have a fear of needles and it's four injections around my nipple with radioactive blue dog and then September 8th. I'm having surgery tomorrow. Two lymph nodes removed and have a port put in from September 14th. I start chemo once a week for 3 months and then once every 3 weeks for 3 months

I am right there with you. I am heartbroken about losing my hair as well. It's not so much as a vanity thing though, I don't think it's like you said it's. It's an identity. I tried on a wig for the first time the other day and I just cried and lost it because I said it doesn't look like me. I'm scared about the chemo and the side effects but what really scares me the most is having those injections

Gina you are strong and can do this! I have been through this and just 6 months ago my mammogram showed me to be cancer free. The worse part of this was the not knowing and waiting. If possible you should continue to share this journey with us. Many women need this information! My advice is to keep a written medical journal and a pocket calendar. Both helped with stress for me. You will also meet some wonderful professionals in this journey. I will be forever indebted to three women who went above and beyond for me, my surgeon, my radiologist and a nurse who supported me during and after the doctor gave me the results of my biopsy. I am praying for you! Your hair will grow back! You will still be beautiful! You will help so many people as God has a plan for you!

You seem to understand all the realities you will be facing. One last piece of advice. Dont read anything on the internet. Either trust your doctor or get a new one. Everyone is an individual when it comes to treatment or prognosis. Some people will run from you and others will support. Take it easy on yourself. Support groups dramatically helped me.

I think fearing losing your hair is a natural reaction for many women and it’s okay that you feel that way. A friend of mine battled breast cancer (and won) several years ago. Her husband made the suggestion that they get a wig before she lost her hair. It was hard in the moment, however, she later said she was so glad they did it. It helped her to match her hair more easily. I literally thought she just got a hair cut. You have to do what feels right for you of course. You’ve got this!

Hi Gina! It's going to be a tough road, but you've got this! Key to this is to stay positive. You're going to get through this. Hair will grow back after treatment (sometimes it grows back before treatment ends). Some of my patients have used those ice packs during the treatment which they say helps preserve their hair (not sure if it works for everyone) I won't lie, the chemo they give is very harsh for breast ca (especially if you have to take doxorubicin), but you're a strong young woman. Make sure you take your antiemetics because nausea is the worst. We support and love you!!!

Now we have 2 things in common, a child with autism and breast cancer mine at 40.
Mine was bad, it was in my lymph nodes and i had the worst kind of chemo. Losing my hair was terrible. I also removed my ovaries a couple years later. The doctor told me i would be lucky to live 5 years. It is now 30 years! If it is not in your lymph nodes your chemo might be lightweight and you wont lose your hair. Wait to cut your hair.

Gina, I will be praying for you on this journey. As a fellow pink sister who was diagnosed just a few months ago, your attitude is so important, and yours is great. The beginning stages are the hardest while you wait for all the answers. One thing I would suggest is for you to read through your insurance booklet. I found a two sentence clause in mine that states any outpatient treatment for cancer (mri, ct scans, pet scans, radiation, chemo, & labs etc...) is covered at 100% after reaching my deductible. However, it is not automatically applied like you might think. In fact I check my insurance a few times a week online and have to send a message for every claim to be manually reviewed under cancer diagnosis. Otherwise, I would be paying 20% of everything until I reached max out of pocket. Also I just had a bilateral mastectomy on July 20th with expanders placed that will stay during radiation and a few months past before I get my final implants. Give yourself grace, let others do for you and make meals and such. People will always ask if there is anything they can do for you but few actually just do for you sometimes. Also it can be surprising how much our kids and spouses are truly capable of when we are down and can't do everything. Lifting you up in prayers.

Gina, my mom had breast cancer and told me a great aunt of hers had it a long time ago. I reaearched snd found there is a link between breast cancer snd prostate cancer. My mom's dad and his brother both had prostate cancer. That was my grandfather and great uncle. My great uncle died from it and hung on until I told him I would take care of his brother. See, their dad died while they were young and my great uncle was more of a father to his brother than a brother. Both men lived into their 90s. It was a slow growing type. My dad's sister and my mom's sister both had breast cancer at the same time. They both beat it. So, I feel like I am waiting for my turn as I am close to the age my aunts were when they were diagnosed. You are one of the people that taught me how to coupon a long time ago when my family desperately needed me to do that. I am old enough to be your mother but honestly feel like a friend of mine is telling me she has cancer. First, I am so sorry you have it. I will be praying for you throughout your journey. There are some things I have learned theough my mom"s journey that I hope I will be able to share with you to make your journey a little easier. I do beg you to consider a mastectomy. Don't give cancer the chance to spread further or to get into your lymph system if possible. I suggest a book called "Eating Well Through Cancer" by Holly Cleg & Gerald Miletelli, MD. It is worth it's weight in gold. It has sections with knowledge, tips, and recipes for different conditions you find yourself experiencing during this battle. It has helped eveyone I have told about it that has gone through Cancer. That is way enough for now. I do encourage you to see if Amazon has the book so you can peak inside the book. It is at the top of my list as I have seen the difference it can make. Much love to you, my friend.

Yes so I am getting a double mastectomy!
I will check this book out, thanks!!

Hi I found you through the news week article you were featured in about Ozempic. Funnily or fortuitous enough, I get a mammogram next Tuesday . It's just a baseline one. I have fibrocystic breasts...when I was 30 something a bunch of Dr's were like, oh it's lumpy but it's sandy feeling and you are younger, so it's fibrocystic, and never ordered a mammogram.

I’m back, was here for the Christmas colab…Marina from Confessions of a dollar tree addict is having a breast cancer awareness giveaway in your honor!🌸 My sister was diagnosed with triple negative ductal carcinoma as well on her 65th birthday. She turns 68 in November! It’s a long journey and I’m so proud of her! You can do this too! She got a wig from American cancer society, but she didn’t wear it. She also chose a baseball type cap that had hair around the bottom of it. It looked super cute! I hope you find something that works for you! Hugs and prayers for you and your family🤗🙏🏼🤗🙏🏼

I had breast cancer in 2004. It was ductal in situ. I did have a mastectomy of my left breast. Thankfully, I didn't need chemo and haven't had issues. I did get implants and am actually getting ready to have them replaced. I am now dealing with melanoma...yipee.
