Nice video Mark! A few additional points: - In general, you should *not* use points to book travel through the portal. Instead, book with cash, then use points to cover the cost of the travel purchase after it posts. That way you still get 1 cent per point, but you also get the 5-10x miles for the entire cost of the portal booking. - The portal has a few good price protection benefits. If you find a lower price for a booking within 24 hours of making it through the portal, you can call Capital One and they will price match. Also, if the portal recommends booking a flight because it thinks the price will only increase going forward, you will get a refund of up to $50 per ticket if the price decreases instead. - Some gift cards are actually worth 1 cent per point, e.g. the GAP one.
There is a way to get the best value from your points, miles, or even hotel rewards. C•R gives you the best dollar value more than the issuer does, the value is 2-3x of the dollar value you normally get. Why not trade your points, miles, or hotel rewards today for a better dollar value than most portals offer you.
@@johngreenwood4783 Doing what? Booking travel with cash first and then using points to cover the purchase? Yes, you get 1 cent per point if you’re covering a travel purchase, which is the same value as what you’d get in the portal.
@@johngreenwood4783 Yes that's true. So what I was suggesting was to book through the portal, just *without* using points, paying with cash instead. That way you get the 5x-10x points. Then, if you wanted to use points to cover the purchase, you can do that after the booking has posted to your account, by using the purchase eraser. You'll keep the 5x-10x points by doing that.
Hey Mark! Thanks for the thorough look at the C1 travel portal and redemption options. As someone who doesn't use C1, it was cool to see all the options and how it compares with other portals. Oh, and about the flight time thing, I'm pretty sure it's because airlines want to minimize "delayed" flights to improve their metrics. I often fly up and down California and those flights are definitely less than 1 hour, but they're always listed for 90+ min. These flights always seem to land "on-time" though, hah! Just my two cents about that. Great walkthrough video!
Thanks Stan! I never thought about that with the short flights but that definitely makes sense! Not only was the price a little lower, but they refunded me 30 dollars because the price dropped, and applied my annual travel credit within one billing period. They have been adding more flight options to my destinations as well, haven't used the hotel option yet, because I was booked earlier with a group rate (reunion). Hi Mark can you have clarify something regarding making a purchase? I booked the flight ticket through the Capital One travel and they did not ask for my name as it is written in my passport nor my passport number how can I confirm that they have the correct information?
the reason the flight times don't match is because they factor in taxi time. The portal time is gate to gate not wheels up to wheels down. And honestly, gate to gate is more important especially if you only have a 1 hour layover.
Are the capital one points as valuable as the Amex or Chase points? Wouldn’t it more valuable to have the better list of travel partners that chase and Amex have and get more than .01 cents per point?
I would say Cap 1 miles are less valuable than amex and chase points based on how I typically redeem points by transferring to partners. With Cap 1 so far I have only redeemed to reimbursed for flights and a car rental so yeah just 1cpp value. Not great but the Venture X card is basically free when you factor in the credits and what not so I got it for that reason and still like earning cap 1 miles

thank you for your videos. I am new to the credit card game. I have had 2 credit cards for the past 20 years. I just got the Venture X. I want to get another cuz I have a trip coming up to charge and I will hit the 4000 sub right away. What other card do you suggest. I have the Chase Southwest, Citi Costco and the Venture X.
Chase sapphire preferred might be a good one or the regular venture one (both have lower annual fees). I suggest chase because sometimes companies won't let you get the spending bonus within a certain amount of time. For example chase won't let you get a sapphire spending bonus within 48 months of your last bonus. C1 is kind of broad and they just say "you may or may not get another spending bonus". Those cards may have a higher multiplier in certain categories compared to the VXs 2x overall. Or maybe dive into some hotel cards since you have an omni travel card. Some have free anniversary nights that would offset the annual fee. All this is my opinion but it really come down to what you want to do and what's best for you.
I like the travel portal in general. My biggest complaint is that you cannot do multi-city flights. You have to book all one way flights. I called in and they said that feature is planned in a future update but don’t know when.
So do you have to use the portal to get the 5x points or can I use let’s say Expedia and book a flight/ hotel and get the points from paying with the card

So if you get a rental car for let's say a week and it's over the $300 statement travel credit amount . Would that just be deducted from total? Or do rental cars not count as travel
You'll probably checkout at the full price but you'll get the travel credit back either immediately or within a few days. C1 says it could take up to 2 billing cycles.
I wouldn't recommend this card - the exchange points for the travel isn't worth it. Supposedly, there is a price drop protection on travels. Booked a ticket and there was a price drop. Called into Capital One Travel and they indicated there wasn't any on my specific itinerary. However, when checking again on that same flight - it did say there was a price drop protection. The variety of airlines that being offered isn't worth it either. I am canceling this card.

How do you change the date of the flight after it is booked?
You’ll most likely need to cancel and rebook
Hi Mark can you have clarify something regarding making a purchase?
I booked the flight ticket through the Capital One travel and they did not ask for my name as it is written in my passport nor my passport number how can I confirm that they have the correct information?
WHOA...I don't have the "Benefit" tab on my portal...
the reason the flight times don't match is because they factor in taxi time. The portal time is gate to gate not wheels up to wheels down. And honestly, gate to gate is more important especially if you only have a 1 hour layover.
Is there a way to not use the $300 yearly credit? Get the 5x but without using the credit.
If you use the card to book travel via the portal the first $300 no matter what will be credit back
during the booking, where can the rewards loyalty numbers go?
What if you have miles with those airline companies. Is there a section where you can input your frequent flyer miles?
Can you only access this via desktop? Capone needs to allow sso/api for this site to increase conversion and penetration
Very helpful
Awesome glad it helped!
Hi, Do you have any tips for booking hotel rooms with Capital One, The hotel appears with several lower tier rooms available, unfortunately the room we use for our anniversary isn't available on the Capital One travel portal, is there a chance that this card offers automatic upgrades, So we would be able to take advantage of our preferred room?
FYI the hotel is a Radisson...
Do the CC and the miles account names need to match
thanks!
You’re welcome!
Today I booked a Best Western reservation through the portal, and surprisingly they automatically matched the BW 'member's only' rates. The grand total was a few dollars more than what was found on BW site due to Cap One service fees, but you can call Cap One customer service to match the price.
That’s awesome!!

@@perchoceans8167 I still hadn't hit my spend bonus at the time, so I was more focused on reaching that and getting the 10x points on hotels booked through their portal. The best value for transferring points are typically found for international flights, so I'm saving them for that.
@@user-jz5zw2rg9t International flights you say?? Trust me the best way to redeem your points is through C•R. No reoccurring annual fees, 100% cashback, and also you can get cash by converting your points, miles, or hotel rewards and you get 2-5x the dollar value the issuer covers.
@@perchoceans8167 What is C*R that you keep talking about? Thanks
Great 👍 job and keep it up 👍 bro 😎
Thanks man!
I came here to look for how to book a hotel through my capital one account. You quickly and easily showed me how to do that.
Now I’m thinking about ways to learn more about my card and how your channel can help. First time seeing one of your videos and it was very helpful. Not subscribed yet. I give it about 5 times I run into someone on RUclips with helpful info before I sub. But I’ll tell you, should I see your face on an educational video like this, I know to click it now.
Thank you for your help! Thank you for sharing this information so clearly. 👍🏾
Thanks so much I'm glad my content was helpful! Hopefully the algorithm pushes more videos your way that you find useful as well and I earn your sub!
Im trying to purchase 2 tickets but im unable to select..
What can’t you select? Try a new browser?
It cost more if you book or do anything inside their portal, if you look at google flight compare to their portal you will get a better deal.
Thx Mark for coverage of Capital One portal- it looks good but still not under 5/24…May look into flying Allegiant since u booked a recent flight.
No problem!
Is it possible to link a airline loyalty account on this portal? For example getting Delta SkyMiles after booking a Delta flight on Capital One Travel Portal.
Well done Mark, very informative. I will try it for my next trip. The date selection looks good.
I may transfer points as well.
Thanks and we'll done!
Thanks Russ!!
thank you for your videos.
That would be a great feature for them to add!
May 2024....tried multi-city and didn't get very far. Gave up.
So do you have to use the portal to get the 5x points or can I use let’s say Expedia and book a flight/ hotel and get the points from paying with the card
What's the transfer rate from dollars to travel miles. Example how many miles can you get if you transfer $1,000. I ask cause I don't have a miles card but I have $1,000 is cash back from 3 cards (Quicksilver, Quicksilver One, Business Sparks) doing nothing.
Wait until this Tuesday and all of that will change!
Have you been able to find a way to use the portal and earn hotel points?
Not just yet but I will be soon! I’ll be booking a flight in the next month or so and a rental car around the same time and I’ll be using the portal for the credits

The Cap one portal seems to be a bit expensive!
@Mark Plymale good hack … you should never use points when you book. Instead pay with your card and get all the rewards and then use the purchase eraser.
Excellent hack!!
@@markplymale I’ve even used points earned from a Booking to help pay for that same trip

Damn you have to use your air miles to pay for insurance on ur flight??? Seriously
What are you referring to? When you’re booking flights you can pay cash or with miles to “freeze” the price and book later
So if you get a rental car for let's say a week and it's over the $300 statement travel credit amount . Would that just be deducted from total? Or do rental cars not count as travel
Yes that’s right!
