I bought the Ruger American 9mm same exact gun. Friends, I cannot say enough good things about this handgun, I absolutely love it!!!!!! Incredible!!!! 3 different sets of interchangeable hand grips, integrated picatinny rail, (1) 12 rd mag (1) 17 rd mag, ambidextrous safety and mag release. Slide works amazing no break in, extremely well balanced. I enjoy this handgun over my Glock and my Beretta 92FS
very good. We picked up the full size in the spring and are extremely impressed. As soon as the compact came out I got it. I carry it often in rotation with other compacts. Though a bit heavy, I do not notice it. It is a joy to shoot. I have 2 family members that will be buying the compact for ccw this next year. They were so impressed with how well it shot they are opting to get it over all the others. Our only negative is the safety. They will get the pro model. Great review.
Just bought the Ruger American 9mm. Can't wait to being it out to the range next week. Thank you for your honest opinion and straight forward review. I learned a little bit more about this gun. 👍
Bought this Ruger American Compact for training in my Pistol Permit classes because of its size for both men and women and most importantly having fully ambidextrous controls - I've had both lefties and righties in previous classes and the lefties wanted something more comfortable to learn on - done. Will take to the range later this week after I clean and oil appropriately. This makes my 6th Ruger - because I've always had good performance with Ruger.
Just ordered the stainless steel guide for the firing pin from Galloway precision and it's supposed to make the trigger a tad smoother and take over around 1lb off the pull.
I remember getting the full size 45 and ended up not liking it for the primary reason it's a heavy gun being Ruger designed these like tanks; built strong and meant for war. Between being a 45 and how heavy the gun is, you fell the kickback and it doesn't play nice with you or forgive. I heard they are considering updating this pistol in the future. My hopes is they make the gun bit lighter in weight, maybe some better grips, and probably that would be it for me! They got a lot of things right with this pistol but I know me and a lo of people say the weight of the series even for compact tends to be a turn off and I have to admit compact still felt a bit heavy. The aftermarket value for this pistol is also a little on the transparent side, hopefully that'll change more so people can customize their pistols a little more if they want. Overall though I do like the gun! Design wise I know some people think this Ruger made these "too busy" but I'm one of those that liked rugged guns! I think overall they preform well and functions like a charm!
The numerous torture tests on the R.A.P have come back very positive, this gun is combat ready and completely comparable to the Glock&Sig Sauer. Ruger has finally outdone itself and it's no wonder this gun was in the running for the recent bid to be adopted by the U.S. Army to replace the Beretta's, but Sig Sauer beat out both Glock & Ruger, but it doesn't matter, this new R.A.P and the Glock are completely equivalent.
Not better than S&W aftermarket support is superior over ruger. These are nice handguns though for the price point. also great customer service probably best in the industry
Thank you for the review. I've shot mine for a couple of weeks now. My very first shots (50 rounds) I had a series of stovepipes (2) and FTE (3) using Tula ammo, which I have had zero issues in the past shooting their rifle rounds in 7.62x39. I may have been the problem, possibly limp-wristing, not sure. I continued to shoot using Agulia ammo, Federal HST hollow points and Seller & Belliot (totaling 75 or so rounds) and I had zero issues. I really love the feel of the pistol, the sight picture is great with the Novak sights, and I thought the recoil was manageable. I intend to legally carry it but I want to shoot it at the range a little more before I do that.
I just traded a canik tp9sf elite for my american compact and couldnt be happier. The canik was still great and I'll get another one cause it felt great and was a lil bigger and good for practice but AMRICAN RUGER,so what else is there to say lol.
sorry man, didnt mean to sound like a troll. i kinda came off like a smart ass. im just grumpy, lol. pretty decent review i guess. but i am a lil biased because im a ruger guy because i own and shoot several different ruger firearms, and all have been top notch. plus, their customer service has been excellent for me!
No worries. After reviewing guns from $200 to $2,000 in value I've come to look certain details that others might not care about. The most important part I think are the shooting impressions. There you see me potentially contrast with Erika.
I recently purchased one and when I disassembled and cleaned it out it back together but now ammo won't feed all the way it gets stuck any help you can give
I am looking to get one of these soon for carry. Has anyone shot both the 9mm & the 45 auto? Is there anything noticeably different in the recoil (other than the obvious caliber differences)? I guess I am asking does the 45 have excessive recoil usually found in a compact model? I am still up in the air on which caliber to get.
I have the sr9c and checked out the American compact. The AC is 5 oz heavier, the triggers are almost equal , sr9c maybe a little better . The AC is suppose to be built a little more robust for military duty which is to be determined , hope this helps.
The higher capacity mag is 17 rnds, not 16 rnds as you said. The right slide lock/ release does not work on the gun i tried at the gun store. You should always test all controls and not assume that they work.
I turned the lever down and tried to slide the slide off and it gets stuck on something to where the slide will not detach. I can pull the slide back to lock the lever I only put 50 rnds in this firearm. HELP PLEASE
Press check? It that for the times you are drunk and can't remember if your gun is loaded? There is an lci on the right side of the slide by the way...
If I griped less it was either not lower quality or impressed me. I think the American Compact is good overall, but was disappointed in some places. My critiques are why people watch and manufacturers send us guns. We have handled over 100 handguns, and have about 50 for reference. My opinions are my opinions. Stay tuned and we'll see how it shoots. This is a carry gun, not a competition gun, so the longer reset etc is appropriate.
I love the pistol but that safety switch is so big. In my state the safety is required, so I would be stuck with it. It wouldn't take much to accidently push that switch up to the safe position rendering the pistol inoperable. Not a terrible thing to happen at the range but in a self defense situation that would be a disaster.
well mister smith, alot of people bitched about the small size of the ruger sr9c safety, so im assuming ruger was trying to remedy that. i guess damned if you do damned if you dont.
For me, the backstrap is a non issue. It comes with a tool. You adjust it one time and you're done. Keep the tool with case. I own the Ruger American competition (5 inch barrel) and there are virtually no holsters available. Including by Ruger. I am disappointed in the support Ruger provides for their pistols.😂
Ruger's a bit disconnected from the rest of us. They released that competition model during the peak of the ammo crisis when folks could hardly buy ammo to practice let alone compete. Keep it though, you're the only person I know of who owns one, it'll be a collector piece some day.
@@GBGuns Thanks for the advice. I am on the fence about it. I will hold onto it. If finance ever becomes an issue, it will be one of the first to go due to Ruger not supporting . I called the Customer Service Line and contacted on facebook. Both were not even aware they did not have a holster for it.
DanDan TheKage Don't think it'll happen, .40 isn't nearly as popular as it once was. A lot of law enforcement agencies are switching to 9mm. As you know whatever the cops go with is what the gun manufacturers make.

how's it holding up?
Just bought the Ruger American 9mm. Can't wait to being it out to the range next week. Thank you for your honest opinion and straight forward review. I learned a little bit more about this gun. 👍
Graham, just FYI, the back straps are marked on the inside with S, M, and L.
They sure are! inside on the top
Just got my Ruger American pro. Love it!! Great price! Built like a tank!
Love my Ruger American 9mm compact, had for 3 years now and it's my everyday carry.

Yeah let us know how many rounds

Love how you look in the barrel I never have the balls to do it. Have looked twice thou bad thing is I wasn't the one with the gun.
I haven't. I record with a camera at a 90 degree angle in front of me.
Just got mine today. Haven't fired it yet but seems like a high quality firearm. Can't wait to for 100+ rounds down range!
Just ordered the stainless steel guide for the firing pin from Galloway precision and it's supposed to make the trigger a tad smoother and take over around 1lb off the pull.
The grips are labeled s,m,l on the top of the inside it's kind of hard to see but its there
Have the 45 acp compact with the TRU GLO TFX fiber optic day/ night sights installed. No complaints at all. Nail punchn' firearm !.

Way better than a Glock cheaper than a Sig better than a Smith & Wesson or anything else on the market for that matter
Must be better than the older model. To much trigger pull on the older model.

How is the size of this for concealed carry? Specs make it look small but by looking at it on videos it looks huge. I haven't seen one in person yet
Pretty slick how it comes apart. Is it available in California?

Hey GBG. Great job. Good info.
Can you rack the slide while the gun is in safety .
My thoughts; "hey, free rubber band. cool."
The grip adapters are labeled.
Would you please do a review on the ruger American pro model competition 9mm pistol
Sorry, we don't do Rugers anymore.
Well that to bad your losing on firing great waespons
Does this model only come in 9mm? Or do they have a serious with other calibers?
Love it
Can you rack the slide with the safety on?
nice job on the video, I enjoyed it.
Very nice gun
What's the model number of this gun.
Do you mind posting a video of the extended mag loaded with ammo to see it the free play is still there?
+Akeem Evans I can on our Facebook page
its been 4 years now and do you still have it ? and do you still carry it ?
No, I developed a personal distaste for Ruger and have also come to prefer DA/SA
oh and that safety doohicky as you called it is called a trigger blade safety.

Am I seeing a Single stack and a Double stack Mag?

No biggie to need a tool for the backstraps...not like you'll be changing them out once you get the right size there others just sit! Lol

+Jon Hut and that's the beauty of having so many options, there's something for everyone
The happy medium for me would be no safety at all. Unfortunately in my home state we do not have a choice.
Sadly in my home state of Massachusetts there are no other options. I would rather have no safety at all.
sorry to hear that mister smith. my suggestion sir would be to move to a more gun friendly state like TEXAS! lol
my dont have a safety on the back side like yours, why?
They make them with and without.
Pheng Vang the pro models come without the safety the standard models do.
Where is the firing pin safety?????
They had a hard time finder the S/N when i bought mine lol

The mag that holds 17 fits loose and makes noise
