I've lived in England over 60years do lost touch with the Irish music scene and.lying in bed the other morning looking at my.phone was the 1st time I'd even heard of Mary Duff and I feel ashamed . Besides having a beautiful voice she's also a beautiful looking girl. Have now spent the last few days listening to her array of great songs and seeing interviews she's made she also comes across as a beautiful person too. Yourcandolutely fabulous Mary
Beautifully sung and a wonderful song. Hopefully increasing awareness of the horrors of the Irish famine and treatment of Irish people from some quarters of English society. The potato blight also hit and badly affected Cornwall and its poor people. Thank you to Mary Duff for this beautiful rendition.
Wonderful rendition, well beyond expectations, & Mary's voice is incredible together with her interpretation of the subject. My eyes are watering with the emotion she manages to incorporate in this song.
I don't have a drop of Irish blood in my body but I want to fly to Ireland, drive to Athenry and stand in a field while listening to this track with my eyes closed.
Val Touba i love this song , my first name being michael an my surname has a bit of irish in it, i would love to visit ireland one day , my dream is too meet a lovely irish lady one day

I just love this song! It reminds me of an Irish aunt who arrived with my uncle after WWII, she was such a kind person. Before they passed away, both had a chance to revisit Ireland.
Great great song! I feel like I'm in heaven every time I hear it! Always reminds me of the closing scene of "Going My Way" as the elderly Fr. Fitzgibbon is reunited with his 100 year old mother! Would be heavenly to someday reunite with a women I'm very fond of to the sounds of this tune!
Lorna Richards Hi Lorna, my mum passed away suddenly at the age of 45 on my 21st birthday and she sang this song beautifuly so I can totally empathize with you ,all the best xx
There are many variations of this song for instance also from the Dubliners which is also beautiful. This song from Mary Duff is taking the cake as she does it with so much feeling. Beautiful song.
Mary sings this important song like a real Irish girl. As an Englishman she makes me ashamed of our history but at the same time aware that it's what human beings do to one another the world over. My grandfather was in the British army in Ireland (and the Black and Tans) and he came home ashamed of a service he'd always been proud to serve. Perfect.
My friend, don't be ashamed of yourself or your country, hopefully all these events are in the past, perhaps all of mankind is slowly making amends for it's less than perfect past. and yes it's a lovely song.
1st time I heard this song the Irish fans were singing it at a football game with Spain. Couldn't understand the lyrics so I looked it up on you tube and it is a very beautiful song right up there with Danny Boy. I was born in America but being 100% Irish I love the Celtic Culture and wish I could visit Ireland someday. My ancestors were from Country Cork and my grand Uncle( by marriage) fought in the Easter Uprising. Damn British need to get out of Northern Ireland.
there was a democratic vote the north voted to stay in the UK. Britain would happily give it up if the people wanted to join the republic but they don't

Who was your grand uncle if you don't mind me asking.
Edward O'Flynn.
there was a democratic vote the north voted to stay in the UK. Britain would happily give it up if the people wanted to join the republic but they don't
That's really sad that the people in the North want to be British subjects and not Irish Citizens.
The North i.e Scotland you mean ....
Of the many versions I think this is my favourite.
