- Thanaka was the very first thing I noticed when I arrived in Myanmar and I knew I had to make a video about it. What is thanaka? Thanaka is a facial paste made from ground tree bark and is commonly used as a natural form of sunscreen and makeup in Myanmar. During my stay at the Song of Travel Hostel in Nyaung Shwe (Highly recommended), I met Marian, and she was nice enough to give us a little tutorial about how it works!

Where to purchase

Please if anybody know tell me
Could you please share whether thanka has fragrace or not, like how to check whether its pure or not...because There are many vendors in India selling Thanaka powder on Amazon etc. But we do no know whether its pure, real or not. I Bought one packet ...very costly ..but appears different from what is shown in this video. The product I bought does not have frgrance...it just smells like a wood dust and it does not form paste with water
The thanaka I have does have a fragrance, its slightly sweet smelling, like a sweet sandalwood. Some thanaka have a citrusy smell bc it is mixed with citruses.
@@nin-nin24 thank u for your reply ...do you know any local vendor of Myanmar/Burma...who can supply rea Thanaka powder to India. What I bought in India does not have fragrance like sandalwood so it apoears fake or low grade product. I want to buy pure product from Burma but it is not available in India

It does you need to use use safflower oil with i5
Can we eat it
We dont eat but its safe if accidentally eaten. But dont eat apple after is bc you can get food poisoning.
Thanaka and apple is forbidden i think
I eat only some time
she talk more like burmese or myanmar
Why only put it on your cheek? Put it all over, so the whole skin of your face benefited all the engridients not on cheeks only...i think this is only a tradition not a beauty regiment
U Crazy?
I apologize you not to judge something you don't know exactly. All of us wear Thanaka the whole skin including face, neck, arms and legs. And it's not just a tradition. If we don't use Thanakha, we can feel melting in hot season. So,most of Burmese use only Thanakha in their daily life instead of lotion and make up.
