Loving that Boston shirt, Jody. I was cross shopping the SARY057 with the SARB035 myself, and ultimately, I choose the SARB. The SARB was a smaller, dressier size on my wrist, and I already have an SKX and a Turtle to cover my sports watch bases. Because of their respective sizes, I consider the SARB a sporty dress watch, and the SARY a dressy sports watch.

Sary055 here, with the silvery dial. Dressy/sporty watch indeed. Wears perfect on my 6 3/4" wrist. Japanese are usually of the slender variety, so they make their domestic watches accordingly: nicely curved. As I don't really liked the metal bracelet (none of my Seikos are on metal anymore), I put it on leather rightaway. Brown Shell Cordovan for fall/winter and (optically) perforated marine blue for spring/summer. You can easily cover 90% of your occasions with just this watch. I don't of course. The other ones would be jealous ;-) With love from Belgium!

Great size on this watch, which would fit my 7.25" (18.4cm) wrist perfectly. It looks great on your wrist as well. The Seiko 37-38mm watches are just too small for me. I have an old Victorinox (nearly 20 year old quartz, runs perfectly) that's 38mm, and I just don't care for the small look after experiencing 40-42mm modern watches. Thanks for the great reviews, as always.

Hi Jody, great review as always! Two things worth mentioning that aren’t in the review... the kanji day/date wheel and the “kabuto” style rotor on the movement. I love both these features and although I wish the watch was slightly smaller, they make it a keeper for me. The kanji day complication alone has held me back every time I think of upgrading to the SARB033!

Grand Seiko watches are thousands of dollars USA. I doubt they loan those out for review. Talk about accuracy. The spring drive is more accurate than Swiss watches, I am not saying it is a better watch, just more accurate. 1 second a month if that.

I have one produced in 2017 in Japan. I really like it but the hour markers at 5, 6 and 7 are all positioned about 1/5 second anticlockwise, and not as accurately positioned as the one in this review. So e.g. the 6 o'clock marker actually points not to 30 seconds marker but to 29.8, of the inner bezel (chapter ring). This may seem trivial but it is in fact really noticeable. Ditto 5 and 7. The other markers are OK so it is not a dial position problem but a manufacturing problem.. Meanwhile it now suffers from considerable inaccuracy (2 minutes per day) so I will send it to Seiko for servicing, which including delivery costs close to ¥20,000. I hope my experience with servicing is better in Japan than Jody discussed in a separate video !

Apropos of nothing a worthwhile point for would be owners, the watch itself is gorgeous. The bracelet is an absolute t__d to adjust with pin and 'where the ____ did that go?' link security.

Nice looking watch. I think sometimes we forget what watches are worth and what you get these days. So much more than the past. In the early 1980's I bought a Seiko H556 Sports 100m. It was expensive then. I don't remember how much but maybe close to $300. Huge money for a factory worker back then. I still have it. It's not working of course but its not hammered. Jody I will gift it to you if you like; it's been sitting in the draw here for 20 years. You might be able to do something with it. Get InTouch if you are interested. I will pay the postage.

Too big for me, but a good looking watch. The chapter ring and indices bring the dial in, so the date isn't floating in the middle of the dial like many larger pieces. The hands are also well proportioned. 4 way battle sounds great, the SARB would be the winner for me.

Another enjoyable review! This is why I tune into your channel. The timegrapher reading adds a great dimension to your reviews. The numbers don't lie! I love Seikos but unfortunately their warranty is not worth the paper it is written on here in the US. The New Jersey Warranty / Repair facility is staffed with rude people that don't know the product and don't understand the concept of a 3 year warranty and will charge for services rendered even if the watch is unscratched and perfect condition. I was shocked at the treatment I received and even more so when I went on-line and realized this is their normal way of treating Seiko owners. Hello Seiko Japan - are you listening???

Jody you've opened a can of worms here pal, because now you have too review a Seiko SDGM033 Brightz.
I've held one and I've worn one. If you haven't you will be impressed when you do, it's next level. The difference in quality and finish from the SDGM too the model before it is clear too see.
Work your magic sir and treat us too a review....hell you may aswell finish with Grand Seiko at this stage 😂🤣
Keep up the good work Jory, love your content 👍🏻🙂

Having this sdgm003 I have to agree. It seems it shares the hands with this sary (half polished / half brushed) but you will much prefer the clasp !

@@mtp1979Ohh yeah of course, the SDGM033 has the upgraded clasp. Like the ones they put on Grand Seiko's that sit flush with the bracelet, that was an excellent release by Seiko. Plus the SDGM033 has the dia-sheild coating do they call it, on the steel?? To make it it more scratch resistant.
It's a great watch either way and tones better quality than the sarb033 which I owned myself briefly in the past.

@@lewib5698 yes it has diashield on the case (not sure for the bracelet tough) and SCC (super clear coating : AR on both sides of the saphyre) : it's like having a watch whithout any crystal. It seems like you could touch the hands !

@@mtp1979Ohh waw, so the SDGM033 has to be the closest thing too a Grand Seiko without it actually being a Grand Seiko. Would you say that's right? I've watched many reviews of one, and they look awesome.

@@lewib5698 well the finish on GS is even better (I especially like the GS hands with the 3 facets and mirror like polish) and of course the movement can't even been compared but for sure the sdgm003 is not named Grand Cocktail for no reason...

    Hello Jody, Sweden here again.
I can't tell you what to review as it's your channel, your choice of watches even if I would love to see something in green.
    Why not a SSC513?

The SARY looks to be a nice watch, but the lack of AR at that price point is very disappointing. Seiko would do well to improve their bracelets.

G’day Big J, fine review as always matey. But I must admit, my love of Seiko is waining, even tho I have 4 in my collection. I’m not a watch snob, I own and wear everything from £15 Casio’s to Rolex. Atb, Dazza. 🇬🇧

2:21 The issue with all those watches is that you can only wear one of them everyday, for they are all "one - watch collections".

I know I wrote this before, but my Seiko has the same or looks to be the same bracelet. Two holes for micro adjustments which means it is not able to fit my wrist. If I take out a link, too tight, if I leave it in, it's too loose. I guess I could just swap it out for another bracelet or maybe I should sell it, It is still in the wrap Same lousy pressed clasp. As you said the strap can be changed. Loads to choose from.

      What about a replacement clasp?

    • @tito841

Happened the same to me and I bought a "clasp extension" on ebay for my sarb 033 and gave me more sizing options. Just for around 6 euros if I remember well!

Thank you for another excellent review Jody. I would love to see a comparison video with all 4 Seikos :)

I just tried on a SARY at my local dealer. Damn you Jody. A total Seiko 12 rounds would be great as I'm still waffling about which JDM Seiko to buy.
