Why vinyl? CDs last longer and have bonus tracks. I can't count the number of needles I wore out until digital. If it came down to a CD or a record, knowing that the record was subpar but the cardboard was excellent, which?
And how much of the 1960s are you a student of? Civil Rights? Vietnam? Antiwar movement? The Hardhat Riots? The 1968 Police Riot in Chicago? Gimme Shelter? The polite racism MLK spoke of that existed in the north and west? The women's lib hatred of Dylan and "Just Like A Woman"? Church bombings? Hell's Angels?
It was a violent divisive decade that can't be put in one box of fashion. I remember it as one long rolling wheel of riots and violence that was rescued by The Velvets. And assassinations.
But anyone who cares about the 1960s is all right.

Nice job! Boomer-aged musician/collector here. 1966 was, IMHO, the greatest Pop year ever. Try Kinks' FaceToFace, Who's A Quick One, Pet Sounds, (and most of the original SMiLE tracks), Byrds 5D, Love's DaCapo (Side 1 at least), and of course Revolver, Absolutely Free and Blonde On Blonde you know - plus tons of astonishing Motown and Stax singles... Trouble is, '66 was a transitional year for albums being created and marketed as more than just a collection of singles and filler. So the LP did not become the "calling card" of youth music until the following year especially after Pepper... Keep up the good work, it's important.

Hey Abigail! Nice to know you're a Michael Nesmith fan. He frequented the music store in Carmel where I worked. I told him I thought Head was one o' the best Monkees albums 'n he wholeheartedly agreed! I was front 'n center for his 2019 concert in Sand City. His two sons were in the band 'n photographer Henry Diltz must have taken at least 1,000 photos. My pick for 1969 is It's A Beautiful Day. For 1966: Donovan-Sunshine Superman, Who-A Quick One While He's Away, Beatles-Revolver, The Psychedelic Sounds O' The 13th Floor Elevators 'n James Brown-It's A Man's Man's Man's World. A favorite Simon & Garfunkel track: Flowers Never Bend With The Rainfall. I met Marianne Faithfull when I was workin' at Borders in Sand City. Thanks for the excellent video! Best wishes from John.

I love the comment about Mick Jagger running like a little girl from a fight with Frank Zappa. Remember Mick Jagger capitulated to Ed Sullivan and change the words to his song let’s spend the night together whereas Jim Morrison looked right at Ed and saying we couldn’t get much higher. I like Mike a lot but I’m a real big Brian Jones fan and the era he was in the band and then following that Mick Taylor‘s era are my favorites.

A movie a lot of people watching this channel might like and may not have heard of is Withnail and I. A cult British comedy made in 1986 and set in London 1969. The characters and story are loosely based on the real life experiences of director Bruce Robinson, who was an out of work actor living in a decrepit flat in 60's London with his alcoholic friend.

I didn't realize 'Withnail and I' is a period piece (recent period relative to its production, but still set in the past); that definitely piques my curiosity about it. I'd heard of the film, and knew it had a cult reputation, but have never sought it out. I actually had the opportunity not long ago to see the film screened in a repertory venue in a 35-millimeter print, but passed on it. Now I feel like I should have made the effort to go.

I also got to have the Grand Mothers on the show. I loved Frank! Got to see him 14 times. A true professional! Are you a Rutles fan? If you love The Beatles (and you do!) you may want to consider going to the International Beatle Week fest in Liverpool, UK. It is always the last week of August. You could wear your best 60's clothes and you wouldn't be alone! You would also have some famous people hanging about that would gladly appear on your show. I better stop. As a person who wears clothes, and one who used to be a sailor , where your job proficiencies are carefully measured by all in case of emergencies, sewing is honored as a traditional sailor's skill . I greatly respect the art of sewing, and think it beneficial for all to be somewhat conversant in the skill.
As for colorful mens fashions, it is restricted to what one can buy, unless one wants to fabricate. And down at the mall, they play it safe.
Even the surf shops, which used to reflect a life or death attitude against mediocracy in dress , have gone to a washed out color pallet . I had to go to a dang cowboy store just to find a colorful shirt , and recognize that, today, such style puts a political frame onto this unimportant choice of dress for some people, and that projection is not centered in the happiness I would prefer my presence on the scene to project.
the hippies seem to have intuitively grasped that human beings are a naturally laughing and happy species, as any anthropologist will tell you, and colorful dress would seem to support. I was a little too young to be a hippie back then, but they were endlessly entertaining to watch, the music was good, and the intentional effort to be thought provoking in dress was not lost on me.
I used to know a tremendously impressive woman who created fabric art, giant big beautiful sewn objects. I can easily see Ms Devoe expending her creative interests out onto the walls once she runs out of space in her clothes closets.

holy shit - I cannot urge you enough to check out their live debut, "Kick Out The Jams", from 1969. They were contemporaries to the The Stooges and often get brought up in the conversation, I think the comparison is apt. Less artsy and more bluesy than Stooges, but just as loud and incendiary.

Loaded is 1970 dammit! Hi Abigail Devoe. Nice vid. You might check out The Luck Of Eden Hall for being one of the finest psych bands of the last 20 year. They kick off my episode 11. An amazing episode really.
    The Monkees.
In 1991 I read in the paper that Rhino was putting out a four cd box set of the Monkees featuring their 80 best songs. I didn't even know that they had 80 songs. But I learned a lot about them and discovered so much good music. I grew up with the first two albums and TV show reruns. So this set was brilliant.
You're fab and groovy and these albums are too old for you.

Hi Abigail, nice to meet ya. My names Chris. I happened across your videos & found myself captivated by them! I'm a vinyl collector myself although I just started. I have about 40 or so. But I wanted to tell you that I just love your quirkiness & the fact that your knowledgeable about the albums your talking about. OMG, and when you dress up...AWESOME!! I see you got the LP3, I got the LP60X-BT right now but I'm gonna upgrade someday to the LP3 too. Well, I just wanted to say I love your channel, and wish you all the luck in the world! Keep those records turning!! 🤘🏻

I'm new to your channel but consider me subscribed. Have you heard Moby Grape? The Pretty Things SF Sorrow and Small Faces anything (not the two 70s reunion recs.) I'll change that to all Pretty Things. Check out The David,an obscure Cali group from 1968, fiendish melodic ripping psych. Chocolate Watchband certainly essential. The Move,The Easybeats,T Rex,Mott The Hoople,The Yardbirds and just so much more! Just don't get me started on The Kinks or Roxy Music! Your videos are full of the very soul that fuels this lovely music and it's sights and sounds. Wide eyed passion and optimism seem to be in short supply and you bring that for real. Maybe wars and discord would end if people allowed themselves to do cool stuff. A decidedly hippie idea. I wish you all the luck and success with your channel! "Love is like a Ramblin'Rose, the more you feed it,the more it grows!" Sounds right to me! Rock On!

I had seen your photo with The Mothers album and that's why I asked the question, as a joke/wink. then when I saw the video I realized that it was to ask! That's what I get for looking giddy! if I had seen well I would have asked you a substantial question! maybe next time! Of course when I saw this video I laughed a lot with your answer! I appreciate your good vibes! hug! PS: do you like The Deviants? One of my favorite bands :)

@@abigaildevoe hello! Thank you!!! The Deviants were like the English answer to MC5 (brother Wayne was a lifelong friend of their singer, Mick Farren) and Stooges. protopunk attitude and sarcastic Zappa humor. Mick in his work as a countercultural agitator and provocateur in his articles, science fiction books...a very interesting guy! They only have three albums (I love all three), there was what would later be the Pink Fairies. greetings from Buenos Aires :)

I like your style. You make a difference with the style you wear, your personality, and of course your vinyl collection. I love oldies and vintage too, in my case, The Beatles came to my life since I was a kid, and I think the Wonder years TV show made a difference in my life, I have more CDs than LPs, but I have a few of them. I enjoy your videos, I live in San Francisco, so I guess you'll love to visit Haight- Ashbury. I have many music books, so I love the way you are a story telling about the artists and the albums, I love rhino records, they have and had huge oldies releases. We have a local store called Amoeba records, and Rasputin (Berkeley), these are amazing records stores. Keep up your amazing work! Peace and Love, groovy baby!

You're awesome Abby! So glad I came upon your channel. I to am a 60's buff as far as the music, culture, and generally just their way of life. I was born in '64 the youngest of six boys but still too young to really remember or experience any of the party. I have a vague memory of the first moon landing but that's about it. Like you, music is my world. Been playing guitar for about 43 years (Currently at 17 electrics mostly Strats!) and all my bros and father are/were drummers. I'd love to teach you how to play! Thank you for such interesting, entertaining, and funny videos. (Not to mention you are drop dead gorgeous!)

La Jetée is very good. Apparently you know French cinema. You maybe should try Louis Malle who made movies both in French and English. Something like "Les Amants" and "Le souffle au coeur" in French, and "Atlantic City" and "My Dinner with André" in English. Among many others.
