If any body having Pentium processor or celeron processor or i3 2nd or 3rd generation processor in laptop you can upgrade it. check processor socket in laptop and see it molded or removable. If removable you can upgrade. Check using cpu z software you see it shows (Socket 988B rPGA)

My Lap is an Asus K40IJ with an Intel Pentium T4400 processor and an Intel GL40 Express Chipset.
There is currently 2GB DDR2 667mhz inbuilt RAM and 1GB in an extra slot.
When I typed "wmic memphysical get maxcapacity" into cmd, it displayed 8GB of maximum ram support.
However, the manufacturer's website indicates a maximum storage capacity of 4GB.
So, who am I to believe?

Actually the maximum RAM capacity for B490 Model (Government Laptop) is 16 GB. You also check your maximum RAM capacity. The main thing is that it has the provision for two ram slots, but only one slot has been provided. So we can put 8GB in the single slot provided......If you want to add one more slot, you can take your laptop to service centre and get your RAM capacity increased to 16GB....I hope you got it....Thank you
Actually I bought this laptop. It's not government laptop and i have access for both slots. But i went to my nearest computer shop and ask to increase ram but i decline. I have 4 gb and 2 gb in my both slots but i need to increase 12 gb with combination of 8+4
I want to replace 2 gb with 8 gb in first slot and rest I leave second slot with 4 gb. Can i do it?

But my opinion is that it would be better for you to use 8GB RAM in both the slots (RAMs of the same memory capacity, 8+8), so as to upgrade your RAM capacity to the fullest, if the maximum RAM capacity for your Laptop is 16 GB..........But still it's your wish....thank you
