It was a grand structure when it opened, but now it's time to really look for an alternative. I can't imagine those container ships spending weeks in traffic

The main problem is that this year is an extreme 'El Nino' year. Central America lost more rain than a normal El Nino year and the rain went farther north than usual. It is a wetter El Nino in Northern California and Oregon, but Southern got almost no water.

There are 35 to 36 ships going through the Panama Canal per day now. The drought is over.

The situation will only get worse as time goes on

I believe it was predictable like people need water for agriculture and other needs, and climate also changes...

condensation towers near the large lake could condensate the high humidity in massive amounts. could use the einstein style fridge design seen in US in RV's,
and instead of propane use solar thermal. also along the coast use solar stills and collect the salt to sell to fund more of the same til its maxxed out.
shading large sections of the lake near channels would reduce evaporation. an additional man made lake could also be made.

It would be interesting to see what Nicaragua made instead of this canal if their project came to life

Returning to nature will slow changes to a millennial level instead of decadal.

What is Trump going to do if he tries to take over the canal, and the lake dries up? Maybe he'll be forced into listening to scientists about climate change.

He'll just blame China, claiming they stole all the water. 😂
