Used to really get miffed about getting a bootleg, but now I've embraced them and include them in my collection. I've come to appreciate the uniqueness that bootlegs are in artwork etc

I have bootleg anime dvds with 40+ episodes in each disc just imagine how terrible the quality must be...

Hi thanks for making this video. I am from Malaysia and I did not know the CD sold in Malaysia are bootleg, the sticker is supposed to meant it is original and the QR code will link you to the certificate/web page of the cd. Normally we can find these dvd at "popular" book store, there are a lot of anime but most of them is from "Hong Feng". There are not many store that sell anime in Malaysia and the only place I can find anime is "popular". There are 3 language on it because we speak 3 language in Malaysia.

I wish there was a "blood plus" anime "bootleg DVD" that make the exact copy of the "blood plus" DVD box set, because the original is so expensive 😭😞😭😞😭

I honestly get a fake one if the price was right. Most anime blu rays are too expensive. The scamming is not fair though.

Regarding UK ratings, they've been using these for years. U, PG, 12 (12A for cinema releases), 15, 18 and R18 (licensed shops and cinemas only). The ratings logos have changed not long ago (at the time of my comment). The U and PG logos are still a green and yellow triangle respectively. The 12 and 15 logos have changed from white circles with red edges to an orange circle and a pink circle respectively (although the 12A logo was previously an orange circle). The 18 and R18 logos are still a red circle and blue square/rectangle respectively. They used to have a Uc logo, which was a green triangle, until it was eradicated in 2009.

Honestly I don't 100% hate the idea of buying a bootleg dvd, mostly if I can't get the anime physically on dvd otherwise, but the one I wish I hadn't accidentally gotten bootleg was Parasyte. It's in my top three anime now and some of the final episodes in the dvd show banners that are from random anime websites, so I'm pretty sure they either downloaded the episodes from there or screen recorded lmao I need to go on the hunt to replace it with an official release

If you stop and look at the back description on My Bride is a Mermaid case the you'll see a typo. Drawing and drowning I don't think are the same thing.

When I first started buying anime dvds I was always scared about getting a bootleg. I would thoroughly inspect the dvd+case, and even when it looked legit, I would still get paranoid that it was a bootleg since bootlegs were a common problem (according to the internet).
But now I realize that since im from australia and only buy region 4 dvds/blurays, it is extremely improbable that mine are bootlegs. I cant imagine anyone would waste time creating bootleg region 4 anime dvds considering that the market for anime dvds is much smaller in australia. Also i dont think ive ever seen a bootleg madman dvd. Even this video only showed bootlegs from the US+asia. but who knows

    • @jackrippon1604
      @jackrippon1604  6 лет назад +2

You are exactly right man, the same goes for video games in Aus too. Our country is so much smaller and the industry only really consists or 2 or 3 companies, no one wastes their time making bootlegs out here. Any of them floating around are from Asia or the US so if you just stick to checking the rating is Australian your always guaranteed the product is official.
The only bootlegs I've ever struck that had fake ratings were early sailor moon DVDs before Madman picked back up the rights, but anything Madman is safe and these DVDs are very rare to find now.
Also be aware I've come across DVDs with Australian classifications stuck on with stickers but it's pretty easy to tell.

It's annoying for me because nowadays I try to only buy the official release. Back when I was really getting into anime, I was still in high school and pirated everything onto DVD-R discs due to a lack of disposable income. So now, I periodically try to replace my pirated copies from back then with the official versions as the market allows. Paying money to replace a bootleg with what ends up being just a nicer looking bootleg, makes me want to break things lol

Thank for making this video. I am slowely replacing all my bootlegs. I am over haft way threw. Of course I would never buy a bootleg if I knew it was. I am nervous cause I want to buy some Japanese titles from Japan but never have before. Worried they will be bootlegged. It is easier to tell US bootlegs now for me but will have to take a chance on the Japanese titles.

You're very welcome. Good for you mate thats really great to hear, its a shame you got tricked but its happened to all of us at one point. The thing about Japanese releases is they are very expensive so if they are very cheap, unless they are second hand its unlikely to be official. But don't let me discourage you, do some research and it is possible to buy Japanese releases. The quality is much better than western releases because they use a higher bitrate. So good luck

Jack Rippon thank you! I am only getting series in Japanese that continues. Some of my series the first parts in English but the second never got a dub.

Ah what a pity I haven't watched this earlier. I've bought Durarara!! DVD on ebay from malaysia... it contained 60 episodes on 4 DISCS. Disc 1 - 24 episodes and discs 2 to 4 contain 12 episodes. The quality is really bad and I regret buying it. But now i know.

I'm from Malaysia.. Please don't buy anime dvd from Malaysia since they are bootleg although it was government approve, in our country license can be easily obtain if you pay some money to the government. Even though I live in Malaysia but I purchase my bluray/dvd from Japan website such as amiami or Amazon jp

How do i see if its fake online? I saw SNAFU season 1 on Amazon for like $10, but that price felt too good to be true so i had my doubts.

i doubt you will see this. i paid some nice money for new full sets of Eva, FMA:B(i think it sucked), FMA, Code Geass. Gundam Wing, and the entire dvd releases for Bleach.
now, when i was trying to find FMA, i found set 1 and 2 for "cheap". bout $50. so i figure okay ill pay. but then i look and it is fake so i message the seller. get money back via EBay and Paypal protection. however the seller was so adamant they were legit copy of FMA. so when i got a refund he sent a nasty message regarding how im essentially stealing food off his kids table. I was like holy hell. so i sent a link to legit NA copies i paid $40 for. and he said those were fake.
like what a nightmare to experience but jesus christ.. some people dont give up.

jay marcuson that sucks man, but just remember selling bootleg and unofficial copies of anime is illegal and a criminal offence. Don’t feel bad for redeeming transactions involving fakes, if $20 affects this guy (probably bought them for $20 then sold them for double) guy needs to get a real job

If To Love Ru ,Bakemonogatari, Legend of the galactic heroes, Gintama, and High School DXD ect have never been released properly in the U.S. and or costs thousands of dollars to complete each and the Malaysian versions collect everything in one place for a fraction of the price i'm just gonna go with that cuz the saying goes choose and speak with your wallet right, I choose to watch shows that aren't getting proper localization for a fair price. I can always replace the bootlegs with originals when and if they become available but i'm not gonna wait to watch those shows if i can watch them now
