me too. I feel filthy, because it sounds as if i do not respect Brian, but Bon is Bon and no other guy on this planet could hold his water. NOBODY. Not even Ronnie van zant, who was even cooler.
There r many stories about what inspired the lyrics to 'Highway to Hell'... AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd once explained, "If you'd been on the road w/ us in those days... you'd have known exactly what we were talking about." Back in the 70's, it was 5 members of AC/DC w/ their crew, all crammed in a tour bus... going from gig to gig... sometimes going days without a shower or clean clothes... sleeping in tiny bunks... eating cheap food... making little money... They did not make it big until 1979. Guitarists Angus and Malcolm Young recalled when their record company were told that their 1979 album was titled 'Highway to Hell'... the label heads freaked out and demanded that AC/DC change it... They refused. "We're calling it 'Highway' to Hell' and that's how it is." I think it was also a knock on people's perception of rock n' roll being "the devil's music" ... and AC/DC are a rock n' roll band - loud & proud. It was around 1979 that AC/DC singer Bon Scott demanded that the band change producers (They had 5 albums produced by Harry Vanda & George Young, who was Angus & Malcolm's older brother) and they finally decided on producer Robert John 'Mutt' Lange (who went on to produce mega albums by Def Leppard, Foreigner, Heart, and Shania Twain) ... Lange focused on polishing AC/DC's sound a bit and added more backing vocals on the songs' choruses by guitarist Malcolm Young and bassist Cliff Williams... he also paid close attention to Bon Scott's vocals and their 6th studio album 'Highway to Hell' was a remarkable one... Released in 1979, the album was the first AC/DC record to sell gold in the US (half million copies) and it has sold 7 million copies in the US to date. AC/DC still performs songs from the album like - 'Highway to Hell' ... 'Shot down in flames' ... "Girl's got rhythm" ... "If you want blood- you've got it" ... 'Touch too much'... 🔥🔥🤘🤘 Sadly, it was also the last AC/DC album to feature Bon Scott on vocals... the album title was like a twisted irony, when in early 1980, Bon Scott was found dead in a friend's car after a night of heavy drinking at the bars in London... It was no secret that Bon liked to drink and have a good time but no one anticipated that he would die from it... He'd been drunk many times before; people wondered why he didn't survive that 1 time. His death devastated AC/DC and they didn't think they could continue playing music... But Bon Scott's parents in Australia gave the band their blessing - asked that they carry on for Bon... AC/DC hired UK singer Brian Johnson on vocals and dedicated their 7th album 'Back in black' to Bon Scott... it became their biggest record (25 million copies sold in the US to date)... AC/DC returned to Australia in early 1981 and played a stadium on that homecoming tour... Brian Johnson recalled that Bon's parents were there to see him perform w/ AC/DC and Mrs. Isa Scott told Brian, "Our Bon would have been proud..." (That meant a lot to Brian Johnson) Both of Bon Scott's parents have since passed away.
Now you have watched the greatest front man. BON SCOTT. Now you NEED to listen to Ride On, Sin City, Dirty Deeds - all with him. you can give ALL props to him. He is the guy. Mr. "fuck off, i give a shit". He was the guy who changed the attitude of so many guys around the globe. by the way, you need to listen to some stories about the band. Highway to hell - that was a lane with 2 4-lane-highways crossing :D And one was one down hill, all people raced at full throttle, crossing... BANG. But that is only a side show. With "The Jack" Bon Scott told all people that the drummer gave that STD to the chick, but still got that girl (with the STD) on stage and paid the costs of her treatment, because she - a slu1 - slept with both the drummer and HIM in the same night. And the drummer had that STD. Or the story about Rosie, the chick that nearly ducked him to death (virtually).
