  • Need a lower level ship build? Check out the Peregrine: • Peregrine - Starfield ...
    I'm shocked and humbled that you all have enabled my channel to reach over 1,000 subscribers. To honor this milestone, I gave myself a goal to build a ship that can enable you to haul 100,000 units of cargo AND be capable of defending itself. To show you exactly how to build this massive cargo hauler, I slapped together this step-by-step guide that you can follow.
    The Bristleback is a Starfield endgame Vanilla ship you can build from the ground up starting with any ship you already have. Minimum requirements for building the exact ship that I have created are:
    Character level 60
    Rank 4 Piloting skill
    Rank 4 Starship Design skill
    Rank 4 Payloads for the full 100k cargo capacity
    Roughly 1 million credits
    Thank you all so much for the support, and all of the feedback that I've received. I have more ship builds in the works and have some good ideas for other types of content that I hope you'll enjoy as well.

    Ok, this is important because for expensive ships this adds up: If you go through the whole UC questline and become a Class One citizen, you get additional vendor bonuses in UC territory. That includes the ship services. If you buy one Galleon S204 at your outpost, you pay 8624 credits, vs. 7761 at the Jamison space port (commerce rank 4 applied). For a single unit that doesn't matter much, but just multiply that by the number of cargo holds the Bristleback needs... So while you might not get everything you want at New Atlantis, do make use of that discount if you can.

    • @WizeOldWizard
      @WizeOldWizard  8 месяцев назад +5

      I forget, does this only apply to New Atlantis vendors or any vendor in a UC system?

    • @Andy_from_de
      @Andy_from_de 8 месяцев назад +5

      @@WizeOldWizard IT works with the ship service on the Den, so I think it would work anywhere in UC territory. That's also what Tuala said at the end of the quest chain.

    Another great build. I just finished my version of the Basilisk last night. Swapped a couple of habs, went with my preferred weapons loadout, but the big change I made was using the NG-20 landing gear. Gave me some extra space to add shielded cargo capacity. I might have to try this next since I've got a Plutonium nine and comm relay manufacturing setup for credits and xp, and I'm always right on the edge of cargo capacity.

    Would love to see your take on a cruise ship. Doesn’t have to be big, in fact could be small like the ones the pilgrims use, but needs plenty of space for passengers, modern amenities, great views of space, and absolutely no offensive weapons, it’s a civilian vessel after all so should take a “defend and run away” approach to combat.

    when you sell/delete parts from a ship, you can buy them back at the same price they were sold for, until you run out of items you sold/deleted. eg; delete the 2 stroud caps, delete the other parts, there will be 2 stroud caps to buy back. the shop resets to its normal inventory only after you leave the build screen.
    more than "favor", turrets just can't fire at anything not in the arc they're pointed at. (you'd assume that a "turret" could fully rotate 360 in a circle, and 90 straight up... but i guess that would be too complicated? -shrug- )
    if someone felt they "needed" some shielded cargo, they could stuff some into the cubbyhole at the back, just above the rear turret. it won't ever have the capacity for a "smuggling" ship, but it could fit if they wanted it.
    love the overall design; really looks and feels like a cargo hauler should. sucks that the mobility on any ship this size is gonna be zero, but what are you gonna do without modding it, right? and those turrets seem to more than make up for the lack of turning speed. (lmao at the way it just bounces off a couple of asteroids in the combat footage... yay for the super realistic physics xD )
    gonna have to put one of these together myself, later, and try it out. thanks for the ideas!

    So I have built this ship on my old character and started a rothicite magnet farm making around 15000 magnets every round (which takes a very long time). This ship can hold all of it and with max Astrodynamics skill it can actually go from Carinae II-a to Hyla VII-a which is all the distance I need to travel to get around to all my outposts and collect resources. With my perks I maxed particle beam and automated weapons systems and now combat is not an issue. Before that though, you should avoid it because this ship isn't a battleship. Just wanted to say, awesome build. It's my regular ship for hauling things to sell. I had 678k creds, but had to wait for more to put that second layer of cargo on. Watching the video, I said "how's he going to get... you have to be kidding me." It's a lot of cargo, ha. I went with the HopeTech structural "flat piece" with the weapon mount, on the back. I also went with the Deimos cowling on the front under the cockpit. I dropped a couple of cargo to move the overhang over the cockpit back one. And I used the Taiyo reverse thrusters to fill in the open spots by the back engines. If that makes sense. Thanks for taking the time for the vid.

      Thank you, I’m glad it is serving you well! It is for sure not the prettiest but, believe it or not, I just finished a new cargo build that has DOUBLE the capacity of the Bristleback. I wanted to see what the absolute maximum possible cargo ship could hold, and so it is primarily landers and cargo. No weapons, no shield, one engine, and just one hab strictly for attaching the docking port and landing bay. It is also at the module limit and not a single structural part was used.

      I know exactly what you mean, and I think the same way. Based on the virtual mass of the ship’s parts, the center of gravity would be roughly 2/3 to 3/4 rearward of center. The front most landing gear are ahead of the midpoint, and the engines and reactor are positioned completely behind the landers. Not to mention the front half of the ship is mostly empty space, with that big negative space in the middle. Call me insane, but I do consider shit like that lol.

    Mobility Tip: your turning ratio is optimized at the halfway mark (white zone in the center of your “speedometer”).You turn faster if you’re not at top speed. Long range weapons preclude the need for such a speedy approach (it’s better to fire beyond their return fire range), particularly with those multidirectional turrets. You just want to be within the turrets’ firing radius on a flyby. This weapon placement is ideal for a low mobility build. Think Star Destroyer rather than X-Wing. Please share any feedback on testing.

    • @WizeOldWizard
      @WizeOldWizard  6 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching! I'm aware of the ideal mobility throttle zone, but to be honest, the Bristleback is so heavy that I would rather maintain speed then gain a smidge of turning ability simply because the ship takes CENTURIES to accelerate. Better to stay moving and just let the turrets do the work. It's surprisingly fun to fly.

    I love your ship designs! I've built seven of them. They've really helped me up my Starfield game.
    I've got a question for you. I noticed something about turret performance watching the combat run in this video. It seems that only ONE turret system will fire at any time.
    I realize that only the PBO-300 Auto Alpha Turrets point forward and only the Obliterator 250MeV Alpha Turrets point rearward on the Bristleback, so it makes sense that only one system will fire at enemies that are in front or behind the ship.
    BUT when the enemies are flying past on the left or right, I expected both systems to fire. They don't. Watching the power reserves on the HUD, only the PBO's fire. The energy of Obliterators doesn't change - it stays right at 100, full charge. I think there was one point where the PBO's reached ZERO energy and the Obliterator's started firing, but the enemy was destroyed (or flew out of range) right at that point, so I'm not sure what I saw.
    In my play throughs using other ships with multiple turret systems, I've noticed the same behavior: only one turret system will fire even if more than one system has a clear shot at the enemy. I THINK a second turret system will fire AFTER the first system has depleted its energy. It's so weird and hard to replicate that I can't be sure. Is this known behavior? Any insights would be appreciated.
    Thanks for all your hard work!

    • @WizeOldWizard
      @WizeOldWizard  2 месяца назад +1

      Man, thanks a bunch! It’s always satisfying to receive feedback like this.
      I wish I could offer more insight into these behaviors that you’ve described, but this is the only ship that I’ve used more than one group of turrets on, and I’ve only tried using one group of turrets on other ships. I have never been happy with the performance of them so I always remove them in favor of another weapons group at my control. The game even states that turrets are less effective than pilot guns.
      My only guess is this: it’s possible that only one target can be fired on by each turret group. I’m assuming that because of all the encounters that I had in the Bristleback, none of them were against a larger group of enemies, such as at The Key. Now I’m curious to experiment with this, as the one benefit I can find to using turrets is that they benefit from the skills related to that damage type AND the turret systems skill. Maybe those in conjunction could make turrets more viable. I’ll be keeping this in mind for a future build for sure.
      Thanks for watching and for your engagement!

    • @ChaseSteele0077
      @ChaseSteele0077 2 месяца назад +1

      @@WizeOldWizard I think you're on to something: that each target can only be attacked by one turret system. That would explain it.
      I really want to like turrets, but I can't seem to optimize their performance. I recently tested different placements on the ship. It did affect how often they fire. For forward firing turret placement, using the Nova weapon mounts and putting turrets right out in front of the ship increases their targeting/fire rate over placing them in the same forward-firing orientation on the sides of the ship (they seem to get blocked by ship geometry).
      I'm off to test them again.

I used a build by another creator that looks like a container ship in space with a crane on it. I kept like 30 mobility, but watching your battles maybe I don't even care! LOL BTW, on the turrets, they tend to be able to track ~80 degrees either side... so I just position most facing forward or backward, with *maybe* one facing either side. I saw a few times where your 6 side turrets, the majority, weren't firing because of lack of range of movement. Not that you ever got close to dying though. Food for thought. I do 4-6 weapons forward, 3-4 backwards, and maybe 2 sideways. I've seen others do MOST facing backwards, with the idea of just lumbering away from the fight and still killing what's behind you. 😂

      It’s got 66,960 equipped cargo, and Payloads skill rank 4 boosts that by 50%, totaling just over 100k. As far as engine choice, that’s really up to preference. I chose these because they have the most likelihood of the ship being able to turn at all haha.

    So I'm guessing with a ship this big in regards of cargo you can't have a 29-30 ly jump range. I'm level 53 and don't have these engines used here unlocked yet (haven't done that mission that unlocks them).

    • @WizeOldWizard
      @WizeOldWizard  8 месяцев назад +1

      No, it has a base LY range of 17. But with Astrodynamics skill and Sarah Morgan on crew you can get almost everywhere you need to go. And for those cases where you need even more, just make the jump with a different ship and switch to this to load it up once you arrive.

  • @wjohnsaunders

    Mobility 0 with the best engines in the game 🤣 Also last time I tried turrets pointing in different directions, they would never fire at all. I don't know if they have address this in a later patch, but I never bother trying again after the first failed attempt.
    Note: You should unassign your crew before making mods to the ship, or make sure the ship is not your home ship first. There is a bug where your home ship becomes invisible if you modify it with assigned crew. Doesn't always happen, but I recently got it and a lot of others have as well. If it happens you need to go back to a save before you modified the ship to recover.

    • @WizeOldWizard
      @WizeOldWizard  8 месяцев назад

      Never experienced that bug myself and I nearly always modify my home ship without unassigning crew. The one I’ve heard of has to do with modifying ships that you’ve boarded.

    Real question: whats the point of so much cargo when it takes you FOREVER to offload it to vendors? Since they are credit-limited, its a pain in the ass to have more than a few thou cargo at a time. Even THAT much is a PITA.
    Is there a secret that I don't know that doesn't involve sitting in a chair for 48 hours to let the vendors "reset"?

    • @WizeOldWizard
      @WizeOldWizard  8 месяцев назад

      This much cargo just allows you to not deal with being so overencumbered so you can get to vendors more quickly. Everyone knows that you CAN walk around with tons of weight, but have you tried carrying 100k on you? It’s also useful for hauling tons of materials for outpost building, for those who enjoy that.

    • @WizeOldWizard
      @WizeOldWizard  7 месяцев назад

      No, I have not done that. My reasoning is that, even if I provide a complete list, viewers would still have to watch the entire build process to see where the parts go. If you miss a part or where to attach, the pause button is your friend…
      I also am a one-man-show, and I do work full time, so making a full parts list would take my time away from capturing footage and editing the content.
      All that said, I am still considering ways in which I can implement a parts list into the videos, hopefully without it taking too much time. I intend to improve the quality of the content and that is part of it.
