My Mother used to talk about her first car the 1932 Chevrolet coupe with great fondness. I never knew what they looked like so I looked on RUclips and there was your video!! Thank you so much for documenting your find. Mom passed away years ago and I had forgotten she mentioned she had one of these. It's nice to see one in mint condition!
Fantastic. One of the great things about GM products from 1939 are the big, broad “catwalks” upon which the headlights are mounted-they gave the cars a distinctive look. Chevy, Cadillac and Buick had arguably the most impressive front ends in ‘39. What a gem!
I love that you didn't cherry it out and just polished it up and kept all of the original interior/exterior. Lucky is the person who bought this beauty!
My Dad had a 39 Chevy in the early fifties that I remember. He took our family to Dallas Texas in it, from Huntington, WV in 1955. I was 12 years old. When I was 13, Dad taught me how to drive and I drove that Chevy up and down the Country Roads of WV for several years. I would love to have another 39 just like it, but, alas, I know I never will. Thanks for sharing your video...that old barn find is simply wonderful!
@Left Coast Classics - AWSOME JOB....My dad had the same exact car - only in Black and chrome instead of blue - 3 on tree just like yours. It's great to see that there are still more of them out there.
I love it! I'd give my arm to own a car like that. My father had one in the early '50's and still talks about it. It was the first year for Chevy for the "3-on-the-tree" and no convertible was offered in the line.
I know it's been said many times but these cars are works of art. It really needs to be kept original and as you said it's a museum piece. That's where it belongs.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that the start they said was the first...,wasnt. Old 216.5 dipper rod engines would rattle from the bottom end until the scoops dipped enough oil to coat the rod journals. The mains were pressurized, and also would have dripped off completely over the years. It sat and idled after a carb.rebuild with a low speed needle and idle adjustment unknown. No big deal. Its a beauty. But like the old song by Aaron Neville song,"Tell it like it is".
John Wade true but I'm pretty sure they knew that, the way it started suggests that a few cranks without spark after new oil and oil injected into each cyl.to get some lube going first suggests to me that was done before any spark was applied.
I hope you gave the family a little above fair price. And I also hope you told them you would bring it by for them to see and take a ride in. We are watching you very very close. I think I have seen you on Storage Wars.
Haha! Thank! Sometimes I get confused as that guy, Barry. I'm not! I love these sentimental cars. We actually contacted him twice after getting it going but his health was bad and he couldn't, even if we brought it by. But I did send him all of the pics and the video. He was a cool guy. I turned down a couple of buyers but ultimately picked a guy that loved the story and was committed to preserving it. I think it lives in Louisianna now. Happy endings..
I allways thought the business cup had longer side windows. I had one i paid $15.oo dollar's and a Toro power mower in 1957 in trade. I was 16 years old.
Beautiful old Chevy, nice story, but that mechanic had had that engine running before that, it is NOT going to start 1st turn of the and idle perfectly without tuning and other work.
Never seen a front license plate mounted directly to front fender before. Headlights look to be converted to sealed beam and looks like seat backs redone in vynl. Still, over a beauty. Hope to god not hotrodded by now
Great car. It would look best if you had skipped the detailing and just washed it and left the wonderful natural patina. Or maybe rubbed it over with a light oil to prevent rusting.

You did exactly what needed to be done to this car… survivors are only original once! I share you appreciation for unrestored cars.

I have to say this beautiful car is a real time capsule.

The '39 Chevy had a special fetcher. I believe it was the first Chevy with the stick shifter on the column and also had vacuum assist shift feature.
I hope to God he doesn't intend on flipping or hot-rodding this gem!!! That would be a crime!

The song sounds like a tune that went "Jeepers, creepers, where'd you get those peepers"

I sure hope the tragic fires didn't make it there. A find like this should be carefully buffed out and cleaned up for posterity.
