Best way to learn this is follow with ropes in hand. Need ropes? Click here: connjure.com/product/connjures-rope-magic/
I love this. I love Penn and Teller when they show things like cup and balls with clear cups. Haven't seen ropes. I thought there might have been magnets.
I'd love to see it with 3 colors or maybe more ropes.
No idea how I had missed this one, previously… But super thankful to have caught up to it. I already do a version of this, but I LOVE the way you keep all three ropes in play!! That ending with them all tied together is top notch. Thanks, Doug!!!
Yea, that ending is top notch (*Dan Garrett’s “Professors Daydream”)
Even though you're explaining it very slowly and clearly I'm still confused as hell because I have a smooth brain, still a great video!
It helps to follow with ropes in hand, try that?
Same here
Great ideas.
Good omens got me here
I did this today at a gig (with other phases and such) and it got such great reactions. Seriously, y’all, lay people LOVE this trick.
Yes indeed: It’s one of the great classic rope effects
Finally a good tutorial with the important subtleties and advanced convincers. I also like the presentational idea of putting the middle of the long rope to your hand. Thank you!
I’ve never done professors nightmare in all the years I’ve performed. Just started to change things up a bit and you have made it very enjoyable and easy.
I love you sir thank you so much I grew up with magic but my dad was always into foam and little cards and he finally gave me the dad's approval but I never messed with ropes so far.. I hope you have a magical day :)
Happy to hear my efforts are worthwhile! Practice & have fun!
Bien fait. Well done. I am playing with my ropes, have 6 or 7 versions, black, white, red, tipped, thin, thick, finding what feels best in the hand. Loved some of your advanced techniques especially the loops to even size ( great foreshadowing) and seeing others versions, we all learn and build on the backs of giants like you. Thanks for joining the giants. For others looking for ideas, my favorite so far is 3/8” yacht rope from home store, silky feel, relatively inexpensive, after cutting I fire seal the ends and then dip in a rubberized “Flex Seal” pint. Makes black look like a magic wand, white blends away, and red a play between the two. Appreciate your ideas.
THANK YOU, DOUG! YOU'RE GREAT!!
I love how you are using cards as bookmarks
Fantastic work brother! I'll be recommending this as a beginner's course to inquisitive young magicians who like my rope routine for years to come... I'd also add the fiber optics dvd by Richard sanders... its got some good visual teaching... and alot of good sequences are included. Used in conjunction with the fantastic routines you suggested of course. Once again LOVED watching this video!
This is genius. Love the method!
U must know alot about magic 🎩 Thanks
Damn, last time I looked at this channel you had hardly any subscribers. Now you've got a quarter million? Well done.
Love this - Teach enough to get new comers started and wet the appetite for further study.
thank you Doug excellent wizardry
Happy to share
What a great tutorial I needed to brush up on this one especially for walk around and platform I could never do the count right so this helps out a lot as well as your version and all the extras you shown and mentioned.Love it Thank You for posting it.
Oh this is amazing, I've gotta learn this!! My friend and I saw a magic show at the Ren fair just last weekend and the magician did this trick. I just had to know how he did it, and I'm more delighted now that I know! 💚💚
It’s a good one :)
Holy crap, I just amazed myself for all the wrong reasons.
I never realized this before, Doug, but I think I'd seen your work before RUclips. I don't remember if it was a DVD or VHS or what, but I remember watching something my dad got me from the library when I was in my teenage years. I never connected you with that memory until I just saw that picture of you from 1997. I didn't recognize this Doug that I know today as that Doug that I had seen before. 🤦♂️
... unless I'm just hallucinating.
Saw you from your shorts. Checked channel and saw this video uploaded 1 min ago. SUBBED
nice! welcome to my magic party!
Thanks Doug this is great. I probably won’t go full on into rope stuff but knowing one good one would add some verity to an act. Cards can get boring for people. Not for me necessarily, but some people might see it as the same thing over and over. Great channel.
Great Tutorial as always Doug🎩👏👏and thanks for sharing your recommendations for other versions of Professor Nightmares worth a check defo 🙌
Doug that was superb. Thank you 👌
My pleasure!
@@DougConn why have i never learned it i don't know. So fun and love your teaching style doug 👌😎😊
I'm more used to slight of hand(although I am better at recognising than actually doing) than this. Although slight of hand is used I like how the illusion throws you off when you blink. It's truely impressive. Thank you for the video... Totally not here to confirm that it's not actual magic. Also thanks to anyone bothering to read this and sorry for the misspelling. I'm terrible at spelling.
Nicely done! I enjoy doing this effect, some of which I learned from Daryl too.
Daryl’s rope work was top notch. He inspired me to learn rope magic back in the 80s
Oh baby 🤤 I'm excited for this, Thank you Doug.
happy to share :) hope you enjoy
@@DougConn That was great and it was something I could never figure out. It always fooled me. The switch from the medium one to the long and short one looped is such a connvincer! Can't wait to get to the hardware shop at the weekend and practice.
Wow man 🤩. I am an indian then also i am seeing your video then that means you and your video are insane 👍 keep going
Gotta appreciate a master of trickery explaining some of their secrets.
Great video, very encouraging and entertaining. Thank you.
You're incredible brother. I wish I had your sleight of hand abilities.
Oh yeah I couldn't be more excited about this one I've been working on it for a bit i looks forward to learning it from you
The references at the end are well worth study (Dan Garrett’s finish is killer…. Remind me & I’ll show ya at the next TMG jam)
Awesome Doug, I have the same copy of your parade, but your explanation is awesome . This simple trick( Not simple ) you have taken it to new level. Thanks for this enlightening video
I just loved it. Both the techniques and the presentation of it :)
I really like how you are in front of an audience / camera and wish for you to be just as happy in your private life.
And thank you for not only explain this classic but also share your version and give additional recommendations to look up. Greetings from Germany
Dude you are so underrated you really need more subscribers also thanks for teaching:)
Thank ya & yo: I’m working on that!
Well explained. Thank you.
Even knowing how its done its still mesmerising to watch
Excellent. Thank you for tutorial.
You are welcome!
Great instruction, loved your version
Thank you! Cheers!
Just helping out with the algorithm. Thanks, gef
I am all tied up with learning rope magic!!
🪢📿🪄👍
Brilliant tutorial. Loved all the nuances and tips. I'd add in Richard Sanders Fiber Optics as a variation on the Prof Nightmare.
Fiber Optics is the graduates course for this type of stuff
Thanks sir for doing this as a tutorial, I was waiting for this
You’re quite welcome
I've been doing Professors Nightmare since I was 10 years old. Larry Sheehan taught me at the time he lived in Bayshore New York. He helped publish Genii Magazine. So that rope illusion has been with me 55 years.
I like your centrifugal spin. Looks a bit risky however 😂
I'd love to know the original Professors Nightmare "patter" or story to perform it. I have a few of my own
Thanks for sharing!
Fascinating to see how it works!
yes, magicians can be very inventive :)
I like to watch fast tricks , what can I say but you have a great sly of hand .
It was certainly worth a like and comment
Thank ya
I subscribed after seeing one of your shorts you have great content
Thanks for sharing knowledge freely Amen in Christ God Bless everyone
I have red ropes thanks for sharing added ideas concepts your cool in my book also
Great tutorial thanks man
What an incredible video!
I’m glad you think so 🙏
Okay, that was confusing at first, but really cool!
🤯🪄😎
Thanks for the tutorial
My pleasure

Universe's physic law: am i joke to you
I’ve always been a rule bender
Nightmare Developer loved proffers Nightmare 😁
one more thing u have u r glasses in the cap not on the ear 😅 any magical secret behind it ? 🤔🤔
Oh nice & Yeah, I angle them down to not reflect the lights in my eyeglasses 😎
Great lesson 👍👍
Thank ya!
It might require hours and hours of practice to master one magic for me. How much time did you take initially in your young age professor?
Harry Houdini had this trick in his small pocket note pad. He was always on the move. So he carried a small pad to write down idea's. This was one the he had drawn out in detail. Since he had whats call now ADHD. Most all of his magic was just mussel memory. But it may seem that this one was a difficult one to remember. As it was very detailed. This pad was sold at action many years ago. To an unknown party. My guess, sold to Neal Patrick Harris. You can Google this. And put the peaces together.
Do you have any tips for this trick for somebody with some mobility issues? (In my case as regards to this trick, my fingers like to lock up a little). I've always been interested in magic and sleight of hand as a kid, and, stumbling upon your channel has revitalized that special interest. :)
Great request, really consider the thumb and hand grip vs. the regular grip. The time it matters is when you are not doing what they think you are doing.
Oh man...! Dat was soo amazing... 😎
Good as always
🙏🙏
Magicians rope is so scarce today!
OK, what a nightmare. Wasn't planning on sleeping tonight ...
Idk if you’ll see this, but which rope do you pull after the medium rope at 7:09? I’m kinda confused on that part but totally understand everything else…
I found the Length of the medium piece worked out to be from the tip of one out stretched arm to.the tip of my nose.
I tried this, but somehow it ended up as the knot trick...
Incredible!
Thank ya
My substitute teacher did this trick at the end of class since we behaved. He never told us his name, just that he was in gwr and a certified magician or smthn.
Prolly a smthn :) 🪄🧙
@@DougConn 😂
Finally an easy one I might be able to do! Lol
Yes, I’m trying to mix up the skill levels a bit :)
Wow, i love it
🪄🙏
Also called spaghetti rope trick and Timothy winks professors nightmare
After doing the "stretching" move and making the ropes seemingly all the same length, I tie them into 3 rings. The patter is "Have you ever seen the magic of the Chinese Linking Rings? I love that illusion, but I can't afford the magic rings. Think about it. 10 rings that have the magical property of melting into one another. Those are rare and expensive rings. So instead, I learned to do it with rope. And let me tell you, it takes a real idiot to try to do that effect with rope. But I found a way to make it work." I tie the ends to form 3 equal-sized rings. And I keep the rings together, and they appear to all be the same size as I pull them through my hands. And then I simply untie the rings, revealing a short, a medium, and a long rope.
It's harder to describe than it is to perform. And I have been doing it that way since 1976.
LOVE this idea!
U r awesome sir:-)
I have one question how many years did you practiced magic trick to make it this perfect cause I am trying to learn them but at some point my speed ruins the trick how should I work on it
Each trick is different (& each person is different.) good magic takes practice, give it time (practice slowly & build from there)
Richard Godall the Janitor?
Excelent
Where can I learn the professors daydream by Dan Garrett???
It’s in his lecture notes
www.mymagic.com/p/books/top-10-lecture-notes
Thank you is there also any way I can just bug the trick it’s fine if not
Scott Alexander’s “slashed” is a great routine too!
you need to appear on agt!
Genius
It is :)
Nice
🙏🪄
I'm ready to fool all my friends with this
Go get em!
Please do rope cutting trick sir
There’s an unlisted version on this page connjure.com/conns-classroom/variety-magic/
@@DougConn Thank u Sir
That's just magic, makes it more believable
Brain fried before now it all good
🤯😀
If anyone is interested in how to keep the rope ends from fraying, here are some suggestions :)
ruclips.net/video/BUmg8-q4a5I/видео.html
I kinda covered that in the clip
Play at regular speed. And play your brain @3× problem solved ❤
Whoever downvoted this I will find you and i will annoy you.
Some magicians don’t like me teaching on RUclips … water off a ducks back
Thank you most of them don’t explain as well as you
