11:30 Encounter with CHP requires chain-up. 40.657138 -120.274027 not shown is the actual chain-up in a chain up area 1/10th mile farther south. We rejoin the narrative as he approaches the rest stop. The slope is gentle, 800 feet down in 5 miles.

What they need to do is look at your driving record for the past 15-20yrs and if it shows you had to collusions/accidents while driving on the snow, then you may pass through without putting chains on your tires. But since they only have one law provision that state chains required when driving on the snow, then all motorist must install it, regardless of experience or luck as they called it. I've been driving for 27 yrs in pretty much any road conditions/weather and can honestly say that, thank goodness without any accidents/collusions or caused any collusions to other motorists. Hoping it will stay that way until I'm too old to drive any vehicles.

Mike also loves to bend the laws, that only works in his favor till a cop pulls him over telling him the what for. I like Mike's video's, I watch every one he uploads. But I do wish that he'd stop bending the laws so much. Just put the dam chains on, now nobody is angry, and you can go on your way. But he's got to fight the matter constantly.

What’s really frustrating for locals is they’ll always close the road completely rather than go to R-3, which is 4wd with chains. I lived and worked on Donner Summit before I started started trucks 30 years ago. I’ve lived in Idaho for the last 10 years now and I’ve seen worse conditions here, and chains are never required, only recommended.

How did they get by without chains, you ask. Well they spin out. Then the trucks have to be pulled up the hill by tow trucks. Meanwhile, a major highway gets blocked by truckers too lazy to chain up. Happens every year on the Highway Thru Hell, named the Coquihalla Highway, British Columbia, Canada. That's why they want you to chain up, buddy.

Actually chains are for clowns that don’t know how to drive and maintain speed.

@@johnnydough8841 That's what they all say before they spin out. BTW, there are other vehicles on the road. So, being a road bully is not good or safe.

You watch way too much reality TV. I am a Colorado driver and have NEVER owned a set of chains or snow tires in my life. My job is 75 miles away over one pass, one of the most dangerous in Colorado. Never spun out or been in a ditch. Chains are hard on the road and hard on the vehicle. If you know what you are doing you dont need chains. My advise to you is the next time it rains, chain up buddy.
