hey thanks so much for your comment, i really appreciate you watching! i'm so confused why there aren't more videos online yet- lots of people have received their units by now. and i know a ton of synthfluencer types had a unit a long long time ago. it makes me feel like something is going on behind the scenes, like where sponsored people have been instructed to not post reviews for some reason. maybe waiting for a firmware update??
@@RussellBradley one thing is that i've sincerely noticed people in general being very curious about tp-7 as compared to when tx-6 was released. like it has so much more of a positive reception upon its announcement. everyone seems to really be into the design and love it as an object. so just from that hype i thought more casual youtube content makers would be putting out videos by now, i know a lot of tp-7's arrived to buyers long before i got mine.
This video is like a real reality check for those devices, that I haven't seen in this way on other channels. Really appreciate your work. Also love the humor. Good stuff!
haha thank you so much for your kind comment and for watching the video! i really want to make a follow up video on the tp-7 but so far i've only collected 2 kind of fun facts about the machine since its release. i thought there would be more to report over time. if i find a third thing to share, i'll make a short video with all 3 things in it. and yeah, gotta keep laughing when you buy a $1500 machine and it falls apart...
I‘ll be up for it. Would love to hear about your further experiences. Really wonder if TE jumped the shark on the field series or if they can get back to form with hardware and software updates.
@@dertyp6767 there was so much positive hype around the tp-7 before it came out... now that its been released, i don't hardly hear anything about it from the community. it could be a symptom of not having a bunch of stock out there yet... or it could also be a sign that the device didn't really do much for anybody in the end?
At $1,500, nothing should be broken. Core functionality should be flawless. Physical stability should be perfect. 1 out of your 2 units was broken. TE is a creative/forward-thinking design firm that lacks quality control, which ultimately defines a product's outcome.
Mine had the same issue with the knob it was volume up down and off when I just tried to turn it on and up . I sent it back and I’m very disappointed because I want to own this forever
yeah i totally agree- what's crazy is that they don't every acknowledge any of these things even though everyone knows its going on. like with the bent op-z and its double triggers. i don't get what their internal strategy is. maybe i give them more credit than i should, perhaps there is no strategy. but surrounding the whole tp-7 release, i've seen tons of people with issues having to return their units. just making this up but it seems like the release was initially delayed, they wanted to have the products out at superbooth. then they announced anyway and rushed to ship without proper QC?
you are the 3rd person i've heard who had the same issue! when i wrote TE support they of course reacted as if my unit was a unique incident and they hadn't heard of the flaw before. but now i know of at least 3 people who have had the same thing.
thank you! i got a hot tip that there's a huge major TP-7 update dropping soon. the update will most likely be something like the scratching of the wheel records to the track now. and as well looping in and out points. stuff like that. but not multitrack from op-1f... though that's all me just guessing beyond that i heard the update is happening. also the TX-6 got a huge update yesterday with sampling, looping, and 2 x aux sends!!
yeah that's true- theadlock would work but for the price of the unit TE can come to my house and personally apply the threadlock and give a foot massage or something while i wait! 🤣
thank you so much for watching and for your kind comment. hopefully the tp-7 firmware update releases very soon so these devices can become actually functional
@@jaygilligan Some devices works Great and thats Cool. But some devices (like most of TE stuff) Make you feel something when you use them, and maybe don't work as you expect/want. For me thats Enough.. And you demonstrate that beautifully in your video.
Really appreciate the video! The lack of official content from TE has been really surprising, but I think it's also an indication that they may have some more "core features" they want to add through software before they make an official video for the TP-7. Definitely some clear "first batch" issues with these between the center of the wheel coming out and the issues with the power/volume knob. Hopefully they can make some improvements to those parts for future batches. As someone who works in consumer electronics I would recommend you return the unit for any mechanical/functional defects like those; their engineers can get those back and investigate them to hopefully implement a PRQ for a fix.
thanks for watching!! TE has been really random in recent years in regards to even "officially" showing features of their releases. i had kind of thought it was because everyone online would make the videos for them, like Loopop and everyone. but now the only videos for tp-7 are called "overview" instead of reviews and all the usual suspects are missing. so yeah, i'm really hoping there's some sort of behind the scenes instructions to wait until there's a new firmware update or something? i saw on reddit that another user had the exact same issue with their power knob that i have so maybe its a more widespread issue...
that is why I am waiting on the updates just like with issues on the EP-133 KO2 sampler that has broken slider and software issues on release. I waited on the TX-6 until they added the USB disk option and love it so powerful! Looking forward to getting the TX-7 and EP-133 as well as the microphone but I will pass on the expensive Teenage Engineering desk that is not worth buying.
yes! great point! now that its been a year since it was announced, and about half a year since i received my unit, i can say that i've used it exactly once. i recorded an album with it. and even then i'd think twice about going through that process a second time. i'm waiting for a firmware update which makes it play nicely with other field gear and also have more functionality on its own. its nice to look at though! i do believe someone did a teardown of it back when units started shipping. i did a quick search now but didn't find the link. i saw it on reddit...
The best workflow for the field system would be OP1-Field (composition, beats, etc) into the TX6 for multi track mixing + compression and imprinted ‘ recorded onto the TP7. Just like the cassette era of mixtapes and beat tapes.
yeah, i really wish they would implement the workflow you outlined!!! but also just to say, they could of course just usb multitrack to the tp-7 from the op-1f... since the 1f also has internal levels of all tracks plus master effects?
Amazing video, so glad to see a more in depth analysis. I do have one on the way, going to try it for a project and then decide if I want to keep it past the return period.
@@jaygilligan totally makes sense. At this stage, I'm most interested in it as a field and voice recorded. I love collecting sounds, and I'm also thinking that the form factor and transcription ability are going to be super helpful in my work and psychiatry training, not to mention for audio journalling. Obv there are more affordable devices that could do all those things, but I'm willing to invest in one that I'm excited to use.
@2:20 The packaging is an homage to 1950's era broadcast studio reel to reel boxes. Same form factor, same way of opening. (Minus the magnet, of course.)
meh... depends on what intention or result you want to have from the recordings. the internal mic is pretty fine for voice memos... but for out and about capturing specific sounds... you might have to use an external mic. then you might as well get a real field recorder for an order of magnitude cheaper. i don't know, as it is right now without firmware updates its kind of useless
thank you so much for watching and for your comment! i really appreciate it. i don't usually do review videos, was really hesitant to do this one. so i'm glad at least one person got something out of it. i'd still love to see a breakdown of all the different versions of ins and outs for recording, especially when paired with the tx-6. i think its kind of weird that TE themselves haven't released any videos... though that's not very unusual for them with recent releases, at least the synthfluencers usually get some videos out by this point!
thank you so much for watching! i haven't tried yet with my mac... however, i've read on other places online that other people are also having a problem recording from their mac via usb... what's your setup that you're trying to record?
i think it can be possible but i'm not sure i entirely understand your question, especially i don't maybe know what you mean by edited version and then unedited?
@@jaygilligan I think I should have said mixed and not edited :) let’s say you are recording 4 tracks, it doesn’t matter what you do on the TX-6, they will remain “pure” on the TP-7 and you can later remix those on TX-6, which is nice. But let’s say I want to also have a recording of the mixed TX-6 version, is that possible? Hope I made myself clear :) Thanks!
@@arfarf152 ah yes! i see what you are saying- so i have never done this myself... if you're using for example 4 tracks from the tx-6 then it sounds like you're using a USB cable to go into the tp-7? if that is the case then... i would guess its not possible to also record the mix from the tx-6 as let's say the 5th track? i don't know how you organize usb cables, but the tx-6 can of course record its master mix to a usb stick. would be super cool to run through a usb hub a cable into the tp-7 for the stems and then have a usb stick on the hub to directly record the master output of the tx-6.
@@jaygilligan precisely! :) For that, extra gear would be needed. It would seem, for me, easier to have an option on the TP-7 to choose to record 1. the tracks and 2. the mix and the tracks.. and when choosing to play you would choose either the tracks or the mix.. don’t know if there is any technical adversity to reach this solution, but seems kind of a downer to not have the ability to save the mix direct on the TP-7. Anyways, having the ability to save the mix through a dongle would still be better than nothing :) thanks!
i haven't tried this yet. i know TE still is looking into making more of these units. hopefully in the future there will be a wider release and we'll get some proper demo videos online!!
no, there is no real looping function yet. its the most requested feature at this point. you can play a file and repeat it, but you can see at the end of this video when i am in DJ mode that it doesn't really work and keep time...
i have to say, the cm-15 is way better than i thought it would be. its a great mic! highly recommend it. the tp-7 i haven't really found a good use case for. i'm waiting for some updates that will be coming in a long long time...
Definitely useful video, full of small details. I’ve got it brand new recently (probably from first batch, it’s hard to determine with the serial number), played with it just one evening, and it went back to seller next morning due to the click sound produced by the wheel. I was aware about it but decided to give it a chance. I was so disappointed to hear it clicking in first seconds I just unpacked and turned it on 😭. Of course, the wheel could be turned off during the recording but excuse me, I can buy Zoom without the wheel much cheaper. I also suspect it has softer and prone to scratches aluminum than Apple devices have. I noticed a couple of tiny dents on Stop button and the wheel after a few hours of very light use.
thanks for your comment! i haven't heard about the aluminum being soft, so its good to hear about your experiences with tiny dents in the stop button and wheel. you can also look up nick hook's tp-7 videos and see that he must have dropped his, he has a huge dent in his record button!
Hey, just revisited your video because I thought about finally getting a tp-7 after the software update. Are you planning to make a video about the new features? Would love to hear your thoughts about it. As I read in the comments, you haven't really used your unit much. Do you think that's going to change?
thanks for your comment- not sure i will make a video about the new features, i'm actually waiting to see a video about all of that from someone else. the nick hook video was cool, but i thought cuckoo would drop a mega tutorial once the update was released. i haven't used my unit hardly at all since getting it. i recorded an album with it, but kind of regret that process and think i could have recorded better with a few other easy solutions i own in my studio. i think i'll definitely use the 7 more now after the update, i have some plans to make a new live set with it but haven't had the time to use it yet. one video i want to shoot is about the synth, drum, and sample stuff on the tx-6. but with my work schedule it will be a long time to get to that. hoping to see some new workflow videos on the 7 soon by people who are into using cue points on a regular basis...
@@jaygilligan Thanks for your reply. I also liked the nick hook video and I am also waiting on more content on that update. I guess the tp-7 had a rough start. From what I read, te really improved the usb audio compatibility. I find that quite interesting in a sense of using tp-7 as digital/analog mixer and recorder at the same time. Looking forward to your tx-6 video, when it drops someday! I bet there will be some interesting insights.
I just received my second TP-7. The first one made noises when the disk would go around, also the buttons were wonky. Knock on wood but the new one seems good.
i'm glad to hear that the new one seems good! i've read reports all the time now that people receive tp-7's and there is something wrong with most units... usually the disc makes noise when it goes around. what is so weird is that people are also considering keeping the broken units for some reason. i don't get it at all- you pay that much money for the device, why in the world would you keep one that doesn't work right!? so its really good you got a new unit that doesn't have any flaws!
Hi, Did you mention somewhere in the video that you had success connecting the TP-7 to the OB-4 via bluetooth and actually getting the latter to play the audio? I am able to connect to the OB-4 but nothing happens. I just see 'OB-4 L' on the TP-7 screen. Not sure what the L is referring to. Thanks
@@davidpope5457 yeah! son wu is the best- i took a private class from him and it was really worth it! i hope he gets a tp-7 at some point and can do some videos himself with it. really appreciate you watching my video and commenting, its really nice to have some discussion of the tp-7, really hard to find anything online
@@reggieflo ah, got you! i think i misunderstood what you were saying. i mean, yeah, if the audio signal was being sent out, and it scratched that signal, i think you are right. i have no way of testing this unfortunately. i know TE said they are working on making more of these for a wider release. hopefully then someone can try this out and see how it works for real!!!
Has your second unit’s power / volume knob remained perfect? My 2 week old TP-7’s knob flaked out just like your broken one (erratic volume, wouldn’t power off, etc). Hoping this isn’t something every unit eventually experiences.
so far my one good unit has remained good! i returned the other one. i heard of other people having the same problem with the volume knob. sorry to hear you are experiencing that!!
The TP-7 as a controller for the OP-1 field tape would be cool. hope they can do that thru firmwares update later on. unless i've missed this function in demos so far???? i'm definitely gonna cop either way, its such a cool device. the design of the field range is so on point in my eye. Cheers for the demo, really enjoyed seeing it tried out in various ways. keep up the reviews!!!!
yeah as of right now there is no functionality between the tp-7 and op-1f. but it would be so awesome in a future update!! thanks so much for watching!!
Hi! I want to create a super portable podcasting/recording kit. This TP-7 looks perfect. For the mics, I am hesitating between the tula and the CM-15 (and just using lav mics); any advice on how to decide? :)
@@ZakMcallister use the TX-6 for all my shows. It's my dream mixer, literally. Especially for touring due to the size. But also battery power... I have an entirely battery powered setup so I can do a show anywhere at all. It sounds so clean, recording to usb stick, decent effects. I like it so much I had two for some time. But in the end one is the best, two didn't really give anything special.
@@jaygilligan battery speakers that carry and sound clear are also on my list! Do you use any TE speakers of any kind? JBL makes these fantastic jumbo ones that are entirely battery powered and I often use a hefty external power hub for all of the electrical components of my street show
Great question! I just tried it for you- I thought it was pretty easy to walk or run with it without warble... That being said, I was paying attention to it, very aware of holding it. It's super easy to make it warble if you want to, but I didn't find it hard to not make it warble otherwise. It's true though, a good point to think about when moving around with it. Thanks for watching my review!
@@jaygilligan My thoughts exactly. Good news about the disable option. A skipping music player would not be good. A train journey with the TP sitting on a sometimes jolting table was also a concern. (Still baffled why they needed to make the box so big when something with the same design just far smaller would have made much more pocket-sense).
@@sodiumlights oh yeah, i didn't even think about a train... and that's definitely going to be one of my main use cases. i have to take trains for work for most of august, stockholm to copenhagen and back a bunch of times, about 5 hours each way. i'll have to see how it goes with the wheel engaged. in the end the box isn't so big compared to other things i need to throw in my bag... but you're right, relative to the size of the device itself, it would have been so sweet to just have the box be the size of 1 or 2 devices with the same swing out design.

Yooooo amazing to see you here! Your TP-7 video is blowing up- showing just how many people are curious about the 7. I guess the pitch change while shaking can be turned off by disabling the wheel... @@Farold_Haltermeyer to be very honest, i've only used the tp-7 twice since i got it. once was to record an album... which i kind of regretted using it for that in the end. it was hard to understand at what level the incoming signal needed to be to sound good on the internal recording. i could have used several other devices to capture the recording. then recently i got the tp-7 out as a super portable recorder for a line input signal out of the TE stem player. that's been pretty fun though i haven't listened back to the recordings except through the internal speaker on the tp-7. i was close to selling the tp-7 several times but... i search the forums and reddit each day, everyone says that the new firmware update will be revolutionary and make it impossible to live without th tp-7. for the life of me i can't imagine what that would be beyond usb cable directly from the op-1f to the tp-7 with live multitrack recording of its 4 tracks (8 stereo) which is what everyone has wanted from the op-1 since it was first released...
@@jaygilligan that's fair...for my usage case it's field recordings/sample sources at almost instant notice in the wild, recording live jams of acoustic and electronic instruments and as a bounce machine to work alongside a Smpltrek, LoFi-XT and several OP-1's so it seems almost designed for my usage cases more than yours in the end!
@@Farold_Haltermeyer yeah i hear you! the thing is, i would use it for a bunch of things if only there were 1 or 2 little adjustments to its work flow and functionality. i was first most interested in using it together with tx-6 as a little portable live set- have each of my tracks in multi-track format, then mix it live on the tx-6 with effects. which i can still do but overall just like lack of loop points, lack of live looping control, etc. makes it a chore to deal with. as well there's a bunch of things i would use it for now... except i have pretty much in 100% of the cases something else which just works better for that job in the moment.

*MUCH* too expensive to be glitchy! And no, you don’t have to learn how to push the buttons - the click sound is a major design flaw. This item is very sketchy in my opinion. It’s way too expensive to have such quirky interface.

You refer to the price complaints as "whining"... I don't even know how to begin explaining what a forehead-slapper it is that this language is coming from a person who dropped $3,000 on 2 of them, and both of them don't even work properly. Not to mention, the EP-133, a way more complex audio device, is only $299. Just look at that thing and everything it can do. This tiny recorder is 5 times the price and all it does is record and playback. When I first saw it, I litterally guessed it was going to be between $100 and $150. Or at least LESS expensive than the EP-133. So yeah, I'm "whining" about the price. It just came off as snooty and out of touch when you put people down for not being made of money. Peace. ✌️
as far as i can tell one of my units worked correctly? i returned the other one which was broken on arrival. i think people are whining about the price when they don't understand what it takes to make a device like that. its all custom components. you have to literally build your own factory to make the machines. that means building the machines which make the machines. its insane. i'm not saying anyone can afford the price in the end, but i do think the price is not crazy considering all the work that goes into making something like this. as well, if the price is high, no one has to pay it?? so when people complain about it being too expensive, its not a legitimate complaint. but anyway, i really appreciate you watching the video and your passion for devices like this! hope you have a good holiday season
yeah those op2 are really expensive plus then like you point out 2x on top of that. and i agree, i only liked toys when i was a kid. now that i'm an adult, toys are just simply that... toys. thanks for your comment!
Yeah I think it's really unclear at the moment what the specific use case is to make it a must have. With one or two very small firmware additions it could easily justify its price. But right now 🤷
Which firmware additions are you hoping for? I’d love to see multi-track to/from the OP-1 Field, and the option to do some kind of tape loops. Seems so strange to have such a tape-focused device without any looping functionality.
@@robertgarvansnyder4665 I'd love the ability to add tape markers, loop in and out points, trim, copy paste delete. The ability to rename files on the device. Maybe a gain per input. Perhaps a manual version of the Tombola sequencer using the wheel!
@@jaygilligan Things sticking out are generally a sign of really bad design, and also several other illogical design choices. Tascam, Zoom Olympus and others already makes far superior better designed handheld recorders and they are way cheaper and better looking than TE's disastrous recorder.. I mean if TP7 had been 199 dollars I/we probably would not have been as critical.. But now it costs more than a good semipro homestudio including a computer and a Zoom handheld recorder...
@@morlidor yeah i hear you- people have in general been complaining about TE's design of "things sticking out" ever since they started this design language of the OP-Z on/off switch. but honestly, in all my touring, i've never had any of that stuff be a problem. i do around 150 shows a year, never broken the OP-Z switch, never had the OP-1 Field turn off or on on accident when i'm using it. i can't really conceive of how things sticking out will break- meaning what i would have to do to the units to break the things sticking out would also break any other piece of gear i have, at least it feels like that to me? like if i drop my laptop, its gonna break. same as the TP-7. but yeah, let's see, haven't had the TP-7 that long, haven't used it for much outside the house yet.
whoa...10 minutes in....glitches, parts falling off..the comments with people who all have hardware issues with this thing...insanity for 1500 dollars/euros...for a field recorder. I really will never understand people who will keep giving this company money and pretend they didnt buy it cuz its some designer boutique item to them. i'm just shaking my head the entire time. I have multiple pieces of music production hardware that collectively are worth multiple thousands of euros but I will never ever buy anything from teenage engineering. tis for people who wanna feel fancy.
I don't think I was ever pretending anything other than I "want to feel fancy..."? But the bigger question is, why does that bother you? I'm a hobbyist musician, I like new tech and design. I don't care at all about sound quality, that every piece of gear can do every single thing, I don't release music, I don't record music, I don't play live. So... You got to reexamine your motives here, not everyone is you?
@@jaygilligan I didnt mean specifically you. and it bothers me because people's infatuation for overpriced crap in a niche market has the potential to give more companies the idea they can make low quality stuff for insane prices, which in the end hurts the consumer if it becomes the norm. and yes, i'll stick with my opinion, or maybe alter my wording a bit: music producers who buy stuff like this or the OP-1 field from teenage engineering and act like its a state of the art highly functional device are just trying to rationalize and justify themselves breaking bank. its boutique design for that price. not serious music production equipment with everything else available.
What a phony company TE has become. They were selling the original OP-1 in eco friendly packaging. Now not only the packaging is made out of plastic, but is also unnecessarily large. Complete departure. Whatever works to sell their overpriced products.
A couple of thoughts here- the OG-1's original case fell apart over time, necessitating you to buy another case eventually. Not sure how eco friendly that is in the end. The new TP-7 box is intended to be robust enough to be used for the lifetime of the product. Secondly... I don't think anyone is buying the TP-7 based on its packaging? So not really sure how the plastic box is selling their "overpriced" products
@@jaygilligan Well, I hope you’ll agree that we disagree on what “overpriced” is. Believe it or not that after coating the original OP-1 packaging with resin I still keep it in it and (ironically and sadly) expect it to likely outlast the OP-1. Selling means creating a buzz about how cool the packaging is, your lengthy chapter in the video is a proof that it does sell quite well. But my comment was really about brand values and authenticity, I really don’t see anything other than arrogance.
@@deepseadiver8191 it's entirely possible that I'm wrong, and I'm not trying to argue just to argue, but isn't resin a type of plastic? So you coated your eco box in plastic? I just think the whole SJW bonus points argument is so thin when bashing TE and the TP-7. Doesn't sound too authentic to me- like if you're seriously so concerned with the environment, is the packaging of these products really the first thing to comment on? It's just another way to be mad at TE in a way that people don't get mad at other companies. No one is writing comments on RUclips videos about how the zoom h4n packaging is completely disposable and doesn't provide any after sale value
Really love the in-depth video. There is barely anything online, so this was really appreciated. Thanks, mate!
hey thanks so much for your comment, i really appreciate you watching! i'm so confused why there aren't more videos online yet- lots of people have received their units by now. and i know a ton of synthfluencer types had a unit a long long time ago. it makes me feel like something is going on behind the scenes, like where sponsored people have been instructed to not post reviews for some reason. maybe waiting for a firmware update??
@@jaygilligan I'm thinking the same thing. super weird.
I'm already nostalgic of the MiniDisc watching this vid for a bit. Seems like a thorough investigation so far, loving it. Keep up the good work.
yes! i loved my minidisc player so much. really appreciate you watching, thanks for the kind words!
Best video on RUclips.
thank you! i got a hot tip that there's a huge major TP-7 update dropping soon. the update will most likely be something like the scratching of the wheel records to the track now. and as well looping in and out points. stuff like that. but not multitrack from op-1f... though that's all me just guessing beyond that i heard the update is happening. also the TX-6 got a huge update yesterday with sampling, looping, and 2 x aux sends!!
10:40 Just some threadlock and screw it in haha :D Nice piece of hardware, I like the build. Sadly at their prices I can't justify buying it
yeah that's true- theadlock would work but for the price of the unit TE can come to my house and personally apply the threadlock and give a foot massage or something while i wait! 🤣

@@jaygilligan Some devices works Great and thats Cool.
But some devices (like most of TE stuff)
Make you feel something when you use them, and maybe don't work as you expect/want.
For me thats Enough..
And you demonstrate that beautifully in your video.
Forgetting Loctite on the most important screw is definitely something I would expect from a teenage engineer.
i mean, its hard to make hardware i guess....
It's been a year after this release. How is it? Also would love to see a teardown! haha
yes! great point! now that its been a year since it was announced, and about half a year since i received my unit, i can say that i've used it exactly once. i recorded an album with it. and even then i'd think twice about going through that process a second time. i'm waiting for a firmware update which makes it play nicely with other field gear and also have more functionality on its own. its nice to look at though! i do believe someone did a teardown of it back when units started shipping. i did a quick search now but didn't find the link. i saw it on reddit...

Just like the cassette era of mixtapes and beat tapes.

@@jaygilligan totally makes sense. At this stage, I'm most interested in it as a field and voice recorded. Obv there are more affordable devices that could do all those things, but I'm willing to invest in one that I'm excited to use.

Is it possible to do a multitrak WAV recording to the TP-7 while simultaneously recording a post FX/EQ master to a usc b?
i think you got your answer over on reddit perhaps?
How to record stereo line in?
Select which input you want when plugging in a cable
What do you think about using it as a standalone field recorder ?
meh... depends on what intention or result you want to have from the recordings. the internal mic is pretty fine for voice memos... but for out and about capturing specific sounds... you might have to use an external mic. then you might as well get a real field recorder for an order of magnitude cheaper. i don't know, as it is right now without firmware updates its kind of useless

Can you do multitrack recording with an iPhone or iPad serving as the interface (Logic Pro or Garage band)? Trying to cut the TX-6

Great Review!
thank you so much for watching and for your comment! i really appreciate it. i don't usually do review videos, was really hesitant to do this one. so i'm glad at least one person got something out of it. i'd still love to see a breakdown of all the different versions of ins and outs for recording, especially when paired with the tx-6. i think its kind of weird that TE themselves haven't released any videos... though that's not very unusual for them with recent releases, at least the synthfluencers usually get some videos out by this point!
New batch incoming. Hope the glitches are fixed.

Great video! Have you attempt recording sound from your Mac using a USB cable? Can’t get it to work
thank you so much for watching! i haven't tried yet with my mac... however, i've read on other places online that other people are also having a problem recording from their mac via usb... what's your setup that you're trying to record?
In multitrack recording. Is there a way to record the edited version, done with the TX-6, with the individual tracks unedited? Thank you!
i think it can be possible but i'm not sure i entirely understand your question, especially i don't maybe know what you mean by edited version and then unedited?
@@jaygilligan I think I should have said mixed and not edited :)
let’s say you are recording 4 tracks, it doesn’t matter what you do on the TX-6, they will remain “pure” on the TP-7 and you can later remix those on TX-6, which is nice. But let’s say I want to also have a recording of the mixed TX-6 version, is that possible?
Hope I made myself clear :)
Thanks!
For that, extra gear would be needed.
Anyways, having the ability to save the mix through a dongle would still be better than nothing :)
thanks!
Would one be able to record the scratches into a DAW? I’m assuming no if you can’t onboard?
i haven't tried this yet. i know TE still is looking into making more of these units. hopefully in the future there will be a wider release and we'll get some proper demo videos online!!
is it suitable for live sampling/looping for DJs in a performance improvisation?
no, there is no real looping function yet. its the most requested feature at this point. you can play a file and repeat it, but you can see at the end of this video when i am in DJ mode that it doesn't really work and keep time...
Does it allow to keep pitch constant while interacting with the wheel? would be cool for transcribing music
No, the pitch varies with the speed of the movement of the wheel. I really wish that at least you could record these variations
Would love one to pair with my TX-6 and also get the microphone for recording tracks, podcasts and songs.
i have to say, the cm-15 is way better than i thought it would be. its a great mic! highly recommend it. the tp-7 i haven't really found a good use case for. i'm waiting for some updates that will be coming in a long long time...
I guess the tp-7 had a rough start. i'm glad to hear that the new one seems good! i've read reports all the time now that people receive tp-7's and there is something wrong with most units... usually the disc makes noise when it goes around. what is so weird is that people are also considering keeping the broken units for some reason. i don't get it at all- you pay that much money for the device, why in the world would you keep one that doesn't work right!? so its really good you got a new unit that doesn't have any flaws!

Have the TX-6 , but stopped using it for live sets , mostly use it as audio interface where I can have the same configuration for longer periods of time , but for live sets for me it's a hassle to move the tiny faders and EQ , on the other hand I can see myself using the TP-7 for live sets and record some stems , have very interesting functions.
yeah i totally get what you're saying about setting up the tx-6. i use mine for live sets constantly but i hardly do anything with it at all that takes any adjustment, really mostly using it to blend audio signals together with different levels. sometimes using the effects on the mixer but not too much of that even. but yeah i'm really looking forward to potentially capturing 6 live inputs from the tx-6 stemmed out to the tp-7!
There’s a site selling it for 500 bones. Given all the factors. Worth that price?
honestly that sounds like a scam- but if you can buy it for that price and it all works... sounds like a good deal to me

Big thanks for the efforts put into this extended demo and chat. Would be great to have your thoughts now time has passed
@@Farold_Haltermeyer yeah i hear you! the thing is, i would use it for a bunch of things if only there were 1 or 2 little adjustments to its work flow and functionality. i was first most interested in using it together with tx-6 as a little portable live set- have each of my tracks in multi-track format, then mix it live on the tx-6 with effects. which i can still do but overall just like lack of loop points, lack of live looping control, etc. makes it a chore to deal with. as well there's a bunch of things i would use it for now... except i have pretty much in 100% of the cases something else which just works better for that job in the moment.
thank u for this

The setup presented at 01:32:57 costs about 5600 US Dollars.I love how both the presentation/production quality of this video, and the sound coming of those devices, mismatch the price tag.

Hello great video! Side mention if you are looking for a good way to show volume a cheap decibel reader would be a great way to show how loud
Ah yeah that's a great idea!! I'll check it out for sure. Thanks for watching! In the end the TP-7 speaker is loud enough I guess for just general reference purposes
Why is the case so uneccesary big lol...teenage engineering...
yeah if the original case it shipped in held the tp-7 at a right angle instead of a 45 degree angle, and the case was relative to the actual size of the unit, i'd totally use that case to hold it all the time. but as it is now, there's not point to take up all that extra space in my bag with the original box
The memo button rattles. It's "by design" according to TE itself. Mine does the same as does another person's on Elektronauts forum.
Thanks so much for the confirmation!!

You refer to the price complaints as "whining"...
I don't even know how to begin explaining what a forehead-slapper it is that
this language is coming from a person who dropped $3,000 on 2 of them, and both of them don't even work properly.
Edit: I really hate ti be negative, being that the rest of your video was well done and i appreciate you going in depth on it and exposing its flaws.
This thing cost more than my iphone😂
2k€ op1 + 500 op2 + 2×... expensive toys to me
yeah those op2 are really expensive plus then like you point out 2x on top of that. and i agree, i only liked toys when i was a kid. now that i'm an adult, toys are just simply that... toys. thanks for your comment!
idk why this is so expensive it just doesn’t worth it 😂
Yeah I think it's really unclear at the moment what the specific use case is to make it a must have.

Exactly
It looks and sounds like a disaster.

Bad quality and bad design, But they undoubtedly are tiny and enormously overpriced! Makes the OP1 Field seem cheap...
Curious to know what you think is bad about the design?
@@jaygilligan
Things sticking out are generally a sign of really bad design, and also several other illogical design choices.
WTF is content anyway?
absolutely
whoa...10 minutes in....glitches, parts falling off..the comments with people who all have hardware issues with this thing...insanity for 1500 dollars/euros...for a field recorder.
People actually buy this? What people?
Good one!!
