  • Nhl playoffs 2024 round 2 has already begun but the four series - Edmonton oilers vs vancouver canucks , boston bruins vs florida panthers , dallas stars vs colorado avalanche and carolina hurricanes vs new york rangers game 1 will tell us plenty but I figured nhl picks today (done before any of them started) would be fun. Connor mcdavid jt miller brad marchand matthew tkachuk nathan mackinnon and more in second round should provide plenty of great entertainment. Nhl highlights today 2024 stanley cup playoffs

Don't think Johnny here watched the Avs/Jets series. Mackinnon and Rantannen were mostly not there until the end, even though they had like 9 points each or something like that. It was the secondary scoring. Leuhkonen, Nichushkin, Wood, Colton, Mittlestadt, and even Trenin, played amazing and got goals. The only line that wasn't a scoring threat was the 4th line and honestly? They didn't need to be. They were just savage to the Jets team. Dallas is deep, sure. But give credit where credit is due.

A bit disappointing to see someone say something like "if you have secondary scorers like Pavelski, Seguin, Duchene, and Benn" to justify the Stars winning and then not make the obvious parallel to Nichuskin, Lehkonen, Mittlestat, and Drouin (🤞🏻).

Also the fact that everyone thought the Jets defense and goaltending was their bread and butter and he just mentioned their defense and goaltending being a strong aspect so if they could destroy the jets defense I think its gonna be harder for Dallas but they can still be offensively gifted in their series

The Jets had a stud in net and great defensive depth too but we saw how that went. Not to say that Colorado is likely to light up Dallas, who I think are showing that they're better playoff performers than Winnipeg, but if anyone's going to chase Oettinger from the net in these playoffs it'll be them.
Even as an Avs fan though I wouldn't be shocked to see Dallas come out on top. They basically have no weaknesses, they've got some seriously underrated players, and they always seem to be Colorado's kryptonite in the playoffs. Going to be a great series I think.

Anyway, Dallas definetly deserves some love and a deep playoff run BUT if Avs takes this one they can probably take it to the cup final but not to the end. I don't think canucks or oilers can handle Avs for the 7-game series but Florida is so hot that I think they will take it, unless they break themselves with the physicality.

@@alexwinter3272yeah, well people also remember that Vancouver is always a coin flip. They go from 1st place 1 year to not making the playoffs the next with the same team core. This is long term history with the Nucks. People have a hard time believing that the team culture has the heart to go deep in the playoffs because they have very rarely proved it. The Oilers may have had their "decade of darkness" but those days have past. The Oilers historically have always been a threat to win a playoff series, they just have to get in to playoffs.

    Great vid!
I say, FLA walks over the Bruins. I`m not sure if I should give the Bruins one or two games. But they looked flat in the last 3 games vs. the Leafs. And with all respect, Florida is a different animal. They made a solid TBL team look pretty bad. FLA in 5.
NYR - Canes is super difficult. I tend to the Rangers. I like their forwards more, Trocheck is huge for them and they have the heck of a D. Canes should have won that game, but i see them fall in 6 or 7.
Oilers - Nucks is another tight one. I don`t know if the Oilers are really that good, as the Kings have been one of the better matchups. In the regular season Vancouver pissed the Oilers off and always had an answer. Still, without Demko i think their goalie will cost them. Oilers in 6.
Dallas - Avs. Brutal. Two absolute loaded teams. But the Avs marched over the Jets, who have been a contender and undressed one of the best Ds - goalie combination in the league. That makes them the team to beat for me. Who ever comes out here should have the favorite status over Oilers / Nucks winner. Avs do it in 7.
If i had to bet on a final today, FLA vs. Avs woule be my bet.
Only teams left that i don`t think can win the cup: Bruins and Nucks. The other 6 have chances.

-Since Nov 11 Skinner has a better sv % than Demko
      - Oilers and Canucks have identical 5v5 goals against - but the Oilers have scored 23 more 5v5 goals in that time
-Even counting the first month before the coaching change, full season the Oilers are only a hair behind Vancouver defensively at 5v5 and a hair better offensively.
      - Vancouver has had a slow but steady decline defensively at 5v5 mostly through the back half of the year.
      - Edmonton and Nashville had identical goals against totals at 5v5 this year (and Edmonton was slightly ahead in the other possible situations) so Canucks are facing an equally stingy team who can score way more.

Absolutely they have a chance. The deciding factors will be how well they can re-adjust from Nashville to Edmonton style of play, staying out of the penalty box, EP, Garland, Hoglander and even Miller finding the net again and Demko returning (currently its looking like he'll be back for Game 2). The Oilers are very good but they are also inconsistent. They can go from a 7-0 steamrolling of a team to being a train wreck. They have better firepower but Vancouver has more depth and a better defence with 3 solid options in net vs the Oilers one average option. Skinner won the Oilers the Colorado series 100% but I'm not convinced he can maintain that level of play. Either way, it's going to be one helluva series!

Canes have had such a wild last couple of years, where they are CONSTANTLY the cup favourite and lose. I think they are in it to win it, and even though they dropped game 1, canes in 6. Also, literally everyone is doubting the Canucks right now, 23/24 espn reporters said OIL>, but the canucks have so much depth, especially on their defencive end that can totally bring the shots down. And even Silovs or DeSmith can take care of the loose change. As well, Oilers star power constantly doesn't show up when it matters. I may be a little biased as a flames fan beacuse im going to the game 5 in Vancouver, and hate the oilers with a passion, but im still convinced itll be VAN in 7.
