Leafs will lose the first round
After seeing them overcome the 1st round hump last year, i think this year they will do it again. What i dont think they have is the consistency to make a deep run. Toronto never plays smart games. Its always physically exhausting games, where they look completely dismantled by the end of the 1st series.

@@The_Earbo They used to be. They're a lot like the leafs right now when it comes to consistency in the playoffs. If they do make a deep run itll be because they're too hard to play against physically. The only team that can keep up with them physically are the Panthers imo.

My sleeper pick- Jets. They have a playoff roster. The West is a toss up..cant count the Knights out but since they won last year Im gonna assume they are not as hungry.. EDM is intriguing, this is probably their best chance yet but I just don't trust them in playoffs so Im going Avs vs Jets WCF. From the East its pretty obvious to me. I expect a NYR-FLA game 7 ECF. Anyways, I think this is gonna one of the most exciting playoffs we've ever seen and I cant wait!!

As a bias Canucks fan, I think you are very much underestimating Vegas and over valuing Vancouver. I think the conference finals will be the kings or oilers vs Vegas. Hope your prediction is more correct than mine. But I think if Dallas beats Vegas they will be too beat up to make it to finals

I don't think you get just exactly how deep they are in players right now they're the least beat up team in the league right now going in to the playoffs I believe that if the stars can beat Vegas they're going all the way this year

We've all got our team, our hopes, our opinions. NHL Playoffs are the best in all of sports (opinion) and some favorites are gonna checked big time (Tampa getting swept by Columbus in the first round). And I'm a long time Bolt fan, that one really hurt.

Although I want to see Colorado win it all, I do feel like Winnipeg is the team that has the best chance to knock them out. Winnipeg is just well balanced.
I also like underdogs. So therefore I would love to see the Caps go from nothing to knocking off the Rangers. The Presidents Trophy curse. The surging Caps with Lindgren. It would be such a story.

Everyone sleeping on the Rangers. With the possibility of Chytil coming back, and their ability to pull back games against any opponent, I think a finals appearance is a lot more likely that people think. Playoffs are crazy though, and we'll soon see.

How teams did against each other in the regular season should not be your reason for a team, beating another in the playoffs.

The UrinatingTree video will be legendary if the Hurricanes win the Finals. I disagree with your WC semifinals picks, Grav. I have Winnipeg and Edmonton in 6. Vezinabuyck is just too good right right now. As for the Oilers, I just find it hard to believe that Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl fail to get past the Canucks with an evolved Stuart Skinner and one of, if not, the best top pairing of defensemen in the NHL in Matthias Ekholm and Evan Bouchard.
As for SCF... I have Carolina vs Winnipeg. If Winnipeg beats Colorado I just cant see anyone beating them. They have it all to win. But against Carolina, Carolina has a lot to prove and will be looking to bring it back home. Brindamour leads Carolina to another Cup! Andersen gets redemption. Aho, Guentzel, Burns, Svechnikov, Slavvin... its not last year's Canes.

As a rangers fan I do agree that if they can’t get their 5 on 5 play going it’s gonna be tough to win. However playoffs is a new season and their 5 on 5 is their only weakness so if they fix that. Idk if they’ll win the cup but they’ll have as good a chance as anyone.

@@edited1325 There has to be at least one upset in each conference every year, and the Preds and Caps are my dark horse teams. Do not underestimate them. Anything can happen in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the only sports tournament that is unpredictable.

Call me a massive homer and I am but Vancouver has been so consistent this year. Last team in the league to lose 3 straight and they had the division wrapped up so early they went on cruise control. Sure they struggled for a while but the minute the games became important and Edmonton got back in the race Vancouver started winning again. Rick Tocchet has won before, the management has won before, they brought in players with Stanley Cup experience elsewhere meaning they aren't as inexperienced in the Stanley Cup playoffs as people think. If Thatcher Demko hadn't gotten injured I really think the Canucks could have and probably would have won the Presidents' Trophy as they only finished a handful of points out and there were several games in that DeSmith/Silovs stretch which felt like they could have and should have gone the other way.
To me what it comes down to is the Canucks put themselves in a great position in the standings and although they didn't exactly coast they also didn't scrap and claw like Nashville did down the stretch to get in. They are one of the healthiest teams in the league right now. Demko's injury was likely a blessing in disguise as he was a workhorse. Now he is fully rested and completely motivated. Pettersen has looked completely uninterested in the second half and yet at times they have been dominant. If Pettersen wakes up (and he might...hoping he was saving himself for playoffs) along with a peak Demko I think the Canucks are going to be an unstoppable monster. We'll see.

Rangers '94 cup team had the worst numbers 5 on 5, and #1 PP unit and won it all. Not enough respect going to the special teams. Igor keeping games close PP can be enough.

Team record 114 points basically winning 2/3 games all year IN THE METRO, Five 70+ point scorers inc Panarin and his 49gls and ridiculous 120 points - Laff's 28goals plus lhella assist didnt make the cut - an ELITE top goalie and a top 12ish goalie as 1B who can play lights out when needed, basically two top lines on O and D, tough and physical, hot going into the playoffs, (and the 'curse' doesnt effect us anyway, last 3 times we went to game 7 of the conf finals, got to a cup and WON a cup lol) - young and old with all having exp many together from last few yrs (kreids/laff etc) oh and with playoffs SO important in the playoffs with how the teams are more conservative we have the best PP and a top 5 PK so have fun with that (hella SH goals this yr too) - there's no weak link - LGR!

you have the canes beating the Rangers in 5... thats so disrespectful. The haven't been able to win at the garden in the playoffs. The Rangers have home ice. Even if they split games 1 and 2 that sends them back to Raleigh 1-1. Game 3 and 4 go to the canes in your hypothetical. If the Rangers lose game 5 at home to the Canes after being up 1-0 in the series that means shesterkin had an epic collapse.

You would think Toronto would change up their style of hockey or system based on every year its the same results. Their style isnt cut out for deep playoff runs or the playoffs in general... Every single year within 4 games the whole team looks miserable and mentally defeated. You also need players holding others responsible for their mistakes on the ice, like MacKinnon, Crosby, or any of the stanley cup teams. They all have real leaders pushing them to the end. Matthews has stepped up and grown a lot these past couple years, but he isnt that guy and never will be.. Until then I cant see them making a deep run! They dont have the mental toughness for it, which is the sad reality for us Leaf fans.
