- Reporting live from Lake Tahoe as we begin writing the first page of a new chapter! We may have bit off a little more than we were planning on chewing, what with also planning a wedding and running multiple businesses, but here we are! Adulthood has entered the chat. We are first time home owners and not in Los Angeles. We love Lake Tahoe and we’ve been looking at properties here now for over 2 and a half years, and we definitely weren’t looking for such a big project, but this home spoke to us. It all happened so quickly, it felt too right for us to stop and question it. Fast forward to now, we are sleeping on air mattresses, planning a huge renovation, and postponing our return to LA as long as possible.

So here for this! Maybe a glass pane on the stair/kitchen wall to let in all that amazing light? If you imagine kids visiting at all or having bebes, I’d be scared for when they can scale the counters and could possibly fall. Whatever goes there maybe at least 5 ft tall..? Or glass counter to ceiling for super dramatic look (maybe helps keep temp between the two tall spaces as well. Idk. Speaking as a toddler mom 😅
LOVE this idea. I think a huge glass pane window would be a statement piece and also allow light in, while keeping any little climbing bbs safe. Thank you for the ideas!

You should definitely check with TRPA (if you actually bought In the Tahoe basin) for available buildable coverage on your property for the deck idea!
You've got an amazing starting point with that house, congrats! But yes definitely don't cover up any windows and maybe those glass blocks can be reused in a bathroom design?? So weird that they put it there. Also a lot of the built-ins really don't flow with the construction....even for the 90's. Can't wait to see what you do with it! :-))))))

Yes I think that could work! Only drawback is having the upper bunk so high / close to the ceiling but otherwise I think this is a good plan
Maybe don’t do a high bunkbed situation? And that way the lower and top beds will both have light. 🤔

Quick tip. Don’t have kids until you’re done renovating. If you’re gonna do it yourself plan on 2+ years to finishi it! Trust me it takes longer and it cost way more than you might even think it will.

I will never understand people who spend so much money buying a house just to renovate everything. It seems like so much unnecessary work and additional money when you could’ve just waited to find a better house with mostly everything you want already
Oh I thought this was pretty obvious, but if you buy a house that is on good land but home is old and dated, you pay way less for the house, and any renovation adds major value to the property so that if you sell the home eventually, you make a profit. That’s why people do it :) If you buy a brand new home turnkey, it is significantly more expensive, especially in this area. Not to mention, how fun it is for us to get to create this home exactly how we want it!
