911 operators are obligated to stay calm. The reason is to keep the person on the phone from being delusional. They need the person to try to stay calm, so they can tell the 911 operator the most amount of information possible. Though, I will admit that saying "hello" by itself is a bit weird, the best you'd do is ask straight away where they live and other important information. For calls like this, it's important to be as quick as possible before anything happens.
in situation like these, and I've been trained for few hours, you are supposed to get as much info as possible, not saying "HeLlO?" First of all, U gotta ask for the place, u gotta try you hardest to understand where help is needed. As soon as the other person tells you, NO MATTER WHAT, be ready to send ambulance and police to that place as fast as you can. In my country we have different ambulances for different things so we gotta ask what is the situation, but since she was screaming her sister was being stabbed, it is clear that [A] Someone is assaulting a person (send police) [B] The person is probably wounded from a sharp object (call the appropriate ambulance for such damages). Asking "hello hello" doesn't even calm down the person. Yeah they even need to calm down the other but asking HELLO HELLO doesn't do shit but actually aggravates the situation since the victim will think you cant hear them and they will continue to say the same thing even louder

What people need to realize is safety is an illusion. Dogs, parents, and people around isn't "protection". Bad people don't care. Make a plan and practice, that is ALL you can do. If it happens, fight and hope to survive. No one is safe, not even the President and people need to quit pretending they are.
@cyoungrun1 Lots of helpful things. 1)I'm here, help is on the way. 2) We're triangulating your location honey. 3) Breathe, I'm trying to help you, I hear you. 4) Geico can save you hundreds of dollars on car insurance. All better than "hellooo?"

This is not okay. Our world has become a terrifying place where we can't even be safe in our own homes. I'm so glad this officer took disgusting man's life. Bless that officer, the intruder has done terrible things to people's lives.
@K Weaver - I think you mistook/assumed the comment was in a sexual/flirty mannerism instead of looking at its other possibilities. Don't get me wrong. It could be a creepy thing to say. But we shouldn't automatically assume that's their intent. Especially since through text, it's hard to clearly convey emotion, vocal tonality or jokes well, or some, at all.

@xxGodx have you heard of this thing called distance? barriers? I understand this isn't available in all houses on situations but If you use your brain there are tactics and things she could do to lessen the chance. of having her weapon stolen
xxGodx that is not true and why do you say just women? It actually goes “a PERSON is more likely to have their own KNIFE used against them..” so stop spreading false sexist lies
@xxGodx I'm not sure that's entirely true, but either way, I'll take my chances. Having been trained in self defense and knowing the strategy behind when to brandish it, if you're caught off guard, gives me a huge advantage. My snub nose and firm grip is an even greater advantage.
I am so sick of operators constantly not reacting appropriately. Instead of playing the repeating words and acting like they have no clue why they were hired or what they are supposed to do. If someone is screaming they're stabbing me or I've been shot or someone's breaking down my door just do your job and SEND THE GODDAMN COPS TO THAT ADDRESS. If it's a cell phone just get the god blanking damn location. Quit trying to make a game of trying make someone stop yelling while they're being attacked, shot or stabbed. The attacker is not going to stop and let the victim calmly tell you the details. Just get over that crap and do your job. Quit trying to be a CONTROL FREAK while someone is being raped or killed. This slows down the system by minutes that could save a life. Yes your job is hard but don't take that job if you just want to one up a dying person.
Pretty sure they almost immediately dispatch the police and/or ambulance. They keep asking questions to get as much information about the situation as they can, while the police is on their way.
I don't understand how america works.. in my country, if we heard someone bloody screaming then we all rush to there giving help, not call 911 and wait for police 10-20 minutes to come. Yeah, I could be stabbed, but many guys behind me will get him good... I mean R E A L good. . .

Everyone knows the police are always there when it is almost done to put the police tape up and take credit for saving lives. You are a neighbor...does that not mean anything today?
+Nunya You're fucking stupid. First of all, when a call comes into 911, it is traced automatically. An officer was deployed to the situation right away, as evidenced by the officer showing up 5 minutes after the initial call. Second of all, it was not the same 911 operator fielding all of the calls from the neighbors.
@@BlGGESTBROTHER you clearly didnt listen that cop was there for another call and happened upon the screaming and went in. She would be dead waiting on that 911 operator
I get where you're coming from. But as a mom, I would never leave my home to go rescue someone being stabbed. Because then what? I could die and my children be left without their mommy? She did the right thing by calling the cops.
I will genuinely never comprehend how another human could literally just jump through the window of someones home and do something like this. To physically act out these things, stabbing another person screaming to you to please dont.. how? And why? And I also dont understand the neighbor that called 911. While I commend her for calling, she just did that, call. If that were me hearing a woman scream for help, I would run and go to her. And I'm not just saying that bc that's what I think I would do.. I've been in numerous situations where I ran right into danger to help a stranger. I dont even consider it or think, I just immediately react. Anyway I suppose we all are different but too many people dont help their fellow neighbors anymore. They like to watch, listen and record these things on their phones. None the less, glad the women are ok, I imagine how terrifying that was for them. This is why every woman (and man) should *legally* own a weapon for protection of theirselves, their homes and family.
@Caroline Chaffee girl I know. I just saw a video caught on door bell camera, a woman had jumped out of a car, the car is now stopped, driver is yelling "I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry" while the woman is genuinely screaming in absolute terror help help help me please help me. And a woman comes out of her house and literally stands there and fucking watches. Just watches. Doesnt call 911 or anything. They found the woman that was screaming dead days later. I dont get it. Just a few days ago, I seen a woman in severe pain to where her little daughter is trying to hold her up and get her to her car. 3 men standing there just watching them struggle. I go over, help the woman to her car, literally take her keys and get in the drivers seat and drove her and her daughter across the street (luckily the grocery store this happened at was directly across from a small hospital). I get the woman inside, her daughter inside, get the womans phone out and had the girl help find daddy's number in moms phone so she can call her dad. I then went locked the womans car up, brought her keys back and then walked my ass back across the highway and carried on with my day. This woman was screaming in pain, couldn't hardly walk while this little girl was scared to death and everyone just watched. I'll never understand

@cyoungrun1 she should've just sent the police all 911 operators have a 'when in doubt send em out' policy
@cyoungrun1 no she didnt, the cop who came just heard the victim screaming. It was happen stance. In fact theres a lawsuit because 911 never actually sent anyone.
@cyoungrun1 I hear you when you say what was she suppose to say? If she was saying nothing could be she felt it more importantly to hear what was being said, caller was doing a lot of talking but to who, because not to many home invasions talk to the victims and not looking at them. Maybe the operator was having more luck just listen after all that information is always good in court.

You're a fucking dumbass
Thank you so much Kimberly; you have echoed my exact sentiment. That dispatcher needs to be retrained if not terminated...
Pretty sure they almost immediately dispatch the police and/or ambulance. They keep asking questions to get as much information about the situation as they can, while the police is on their way.

+Nunya You're fucking stupid. First of all, when a call comes into 911, it is traced automatically. An officer was deployed to the situation right away, as evidenced by the officer showing up 5 minutes after the initial call. Second of all, it was not the same 911 operator fielding all of the calls from the neighbors.
mhotl Well to be fair, the office wasn’t there for that call, he was there for the other woman that said he tried to break in.
I hope that 911 operator sent the cops right away! But who knows the way she was acting and what she was saying
@Caroline Chaffee no I've never seen that, I'll have to check it out, thanks!
