The rock drake can permanently glide/fly. From just jumping off the ground your can glide/fly round the whole map without touching the ground. When it jumps it auto starts to aim down. Pull its head up abit and it will level out and stay there forever, takes abit off practice
@@fifteens there was a glitch for infinite stamina on the drake, not sure if its still in the game or fixed, can't remember exactly but you used change between modes (climb mode and normal mode) then get off the drake, when u got back on u had infinite stamina

Not a bad video, for proper noobs I'd recommend farming the nests you can walk to without dropping into the trench, around 10.39 where you're clearing the drakes above the trench just keep going straight and keep the trench on your right, where the path forks keep right and there's an area with 3 or 4 nests that you can climb up to then glide down to your mount, 2 or 3 cryo podded megalos or spinos are good to see off the mobs then get the hell out of there back up to the area where you can climb out Once you have a decent-ish drake there's a nest that infinitely spawns eggs that you can farm for high level drakes, at 10.17 in the video just follow that land bridge that goes towards the top right of the screen then glide along the trench on the left, the nest is high up on the right side of the trench, kind of up and right from where Phlinger aims the shotgun at 11.34, all you have to do is glide from the land bridge, check the egg and grab it, if it's bad glide back to the land bridge and eat it then go back to the nest, if it's good I climb up then kind of do a circle back to the land bridge to try and keep the high level drake in range of the nest so it spawns another egg, pulling it away can cause lower level eggs to spawn depending on what drakes are in the area, this way you can get as many high level eggs as your drake can carry in one trip
That's definitely the nest I'd go for at the start and many people seem to ignore its advantage. You could even glide in and out of there back to the spine without any mount or need to fight any Drake at all.
i just wanna say thanks phlinger. because all of your Ark ABCs led me to becoming a good ark player. like right know i just finished a “soloing the ark” type playthrough like defeating the king titan and stuff. i wouldn’t be able to do that without your help so really appreciate it man :D
I got my first aberration Drake last week following your vid. One slight suggestion, if you follow the path a bit further from where you dropped down there are a few nests above the main path at a dead end. At the part after you’ve obtained the egg and you’re climbing up the cliff, I’d recommend making a cliff platform rest stop. Maybe have a bed or some supplies and tools. Maybe you can even hatch the egg there
@@rustynails2757 his maturation and hatch settings are boosted but the rest are vanilla or very close to vanilla, PP doesn't use massively boosted stats like most youtubers.
I'm pretty new to ark and your videos help me out a lot whenever I'm confused of a new dino/creature so I'd like to thank you for that and just want to say that you deserve much more views and subs than what you get.
TIPS: bring a longneck and a lot of bullets. this is important so that you can aggro drakes from a distance. circle around the trench first and clear out all the drakes. once you have done this, drop down and aggro and kill the rest. make sure to search the walls as they love to hide there. after that, climb up to a drake egg and grab it then glide to your dino. if you did it right, no drakes will come to you because they're all dead lmao. bring as many climbing picks as you can carry. i brought 5 and thought it would be overkill but it wasn't! it was glitchy the whole time and an earthquake happened in the middle of it. bring 5+ 100%. just a few tips to help! have a good day!
Of the three types of taming, hatch taming has to be the most disturbing when you think about it. You're going around, stealing eggs from the parents, and then bringing it back to your base to hatch and raise up, tricking the baby into thinking you're its parent because it imprints on you first.
nah knock out tames you paralyze them then hand feed them so they become reliant or like trusting or you, like imagine a human tranqing u but then taking care of u so u love them

Didn't even realize it could be done! And now you've just taught me why I'd want to -- to make the dino change which imprinting action it wants (in case I don't have what it wants at that moment).

Like a Thyla but better? They took the Megalania and gave it wings; ergo rock drake. Literally megalania climb walls and move on the walls the identical way rock drakes do. 😂 Also nice tip about drakes/megalania and climbing; stay in third person unless you’re in a weird spot, which effects the camera and you actually seeing where you’re going. Majority of the time it’s easier to maneuver around in third person, versus first person - because the camera is weird and janky when you’re climbing in first person.
I've still never tamed one of these guys, I've tamed a wyvern and I've tamed a magmasaur (which was a nightmare, I have no idea how youtubers make it look easy) but I haven't spent enough time on aberration to get a rock drake, maybe that should be my next goal
So there's a handy glitch and it's sensitive. On the vanilla ark x-box you can glitch it so you gain elevation. It's an agonizing climb rate. Very agonizing. But you can indefinitely stay in the air until you find any barrier
Phlinger, I can't seem to find that trench based on watching the video. You said something about going toward the "tide pools" is that the area name when you pull up the HUD? Also can you add in one moment of just showing your map, or the GPS coordinates, when you're standing at the first jumping off point?
I was amazed when I saw the rock drake. I wanted one so bad I just wished they had these on the island. But i found that out quite easily that they are only on Aberration. Literally wanted it to be my 60th and final tame. Guess not. :’(

Behind the artifact is a shortcut back to the area with the old building in it, so you dont need to go through the caves again. But always bring a cryo orb if you can

Five years of playing solo aberration and I finally got a rock drake. Hard as heck on solo. I had 3 megalocerous melee at 600% each, but I did it.

I never use air conditioners, I hatch eggs with dimetrodons and pump everything into melee damage which improves their insulating ability

Why don't you use a flyer to go down and up?
You can clear it with any animal and then use a flier. What am I missing?
aberration is a big cave map flyers dont spawn in caves the only "flyer" is the rock drake

You can't get flyers on aberration unless you've got it enabled, but usually you don't get em
Flyers don’t spawn on Aberration, so unless you have transferring enabled you’ll have to use one of the creatures from Aberration.
