    When they're slowed down, they sound like lullabies for some reason.

    • @carlbaumeister3439
      @carlbaumeister3439 7 лет назад +66

      Well, neoclassical, as its name implies, is really classically based. And a lot of lullabies are like simple classical tunes.

      Because Neo is melodic as fk when slowed down. That's why I do it. Melody. With pentatonic YOU have to create melodies. These are built in. Kinda lol rock on. Jason Becker forever

I don't know what it is but other Neo-Classical shredders,talk too much explaining things and I get bored or others talk and Shred but hard to follow,,, THIS Video however,..you play the riffs up to speed,then play it really slow AND CLEAN,,,,and the tab definitely helps !!!You are in my Top 3,..Thank you for the awesome Lessons !!!

    • @AlfredPotterGuitar
      @AlfredPotterGuitar  9 лет назад

      Thanks!! But you can play these. Just chop everything up into chunks - 6 notes or less. And practice them separately. This way the brain doesn't get overloaded. Then when you stitch them together your brain sees the whole passage as 4 or 5 tasks instead of trying to execute 30 or so (or however many notes make up the passage)

    For those who are not fast enough the real trick is to have trained before and have a similar speed in order to play this. Truth is, you won't develop that kind of speed with just one lick, but i must say that it helps if you're close to that, or like me, you're rusted and want to reach that kind of speed again. In the past i had developed my speed with "1234" exercise alone, everything else was just a "complement" to that, started at 130bpm or so, until i finally reached 250bpm. Stopped playing guitar for about 10yr or even more, been playing again for about 1 month or so, i'm already at 200bpm. The trick is to pick like if you're brushing the cords and with the left hand you need to move it as less possible, almost effortlessly. The best exercise for that is to "type" very slowly without taking the fingers out of the cord, only the one you're doing the digitation, it's very hard at first but when you master it you can go beyond 200bpm very easily, just start slowly and add speed, and if you're about 180-200bpm you can play most songs. Just watch the fingers of fast players like Michael A Batio, Michael Romeo or Kiko Loureiro, they both move the left hand in a very similar way, almost like they're not even moving it or making almost no effort to move while the right hand does all the hard work.
    Ps: I used to pick wrong and my digitation was very sloppy, but those 2 exercises was ground braking for me, got fast in less than a month playing for about 3-5 hours a day (sometimes more). It took me years to reach 160bpm, even more for 250bpm, but after knowing those 2 simple things everything changed.
    Ps2: I stopped playing guitar to sing.

    • @AlfredPotterGuitar
      @AlfredPotterGuitar  5 лет назад +1

      Yes you're right. Also, this was years ago before I truly analyzed my picking technique regarding pickslanting etc. As a lesson this video is totally useless for this reason! You have to be able to play like this already before you get much benefit from it. Live and learn though, right? I am trying to be a far better and technical teacher these days.

    • @SlayeCohen
      @SlayeCohen 5 лет назад

      @@AlfredPotterGuitar Thanks for the reply man, it's unbelievable how easy you can develop speed if you do it in the right way, wish i knew that when i was a teenager... This looks so stupid for some of us that are already playing fast, but without it playing fast make the fingers "tired" and sometimes you can do it wrong, but if that technique you can always hit the right notes and what is more surprising is that you can hit it without effort, that's why Batio can play as fast as he plays at the age of 62. I wish you lots of succes man.

    Thank you, I was looking for some advanced licks to get started with excercises after a long period of laziness. I don't regret having stopped, I had an explotion of creativity and inspiration after I stopped playing guitar for a couple months (I went from playing everyday to playing once a week or so). When I started again, I didn't start again with any mechanical excercises and I found that all the hard work from before was giving its fruits, I could express freely with a lot of fluidness. I dedicated to jamming. That was a couple years ago, and now I realize the process is inverse and I'm playing sloppier than ever, so I guess it's tome to reset the cycle.

    Very nice. The way the licks are presented at speed and then slowly with tab is very efficient and allows for teaching several licks in a short time. Love me some neo classical shred. Grew up when Malmsteen came on the scene so playing fast and having good technique has always been important (although getting sweeps the way I want them is taking forever). Also you've got to have some delay for shred :)

      Maestro que acompaniamiento podriamos usar para el primer lick.o que acordes.

    • @AlfredPotterGuitar
      @AlfredPotterGuitar  2 года назад

      No te centres en eso. Vale más la pena pensar en tus propias ideas para adaptar los acompañamientos en lugar de aprender las ideas de otras personas y luego tratar de forzarlas en progresiones de acordes donde podrían no encajar.

      Alfred Potter Bro, I use me 70! Can u give me the patch settings?? i'm in love with your tone!

    • @AlfredPotterGuitar
      @AlfredPotterGuitar  9 лет назад

      ashique elahi Thanks! Well here on the ME50 (which is analogue so it's hard to say how I got my tone tbh) I'm using the "metal" distortion, full drive, mid bass, 3/4 tone,
      Then for the reverb it is about 70% if I remember correctly,
      then just dial in the delay until it sounds right.
      I may also have an almost unnoticeable amount of stereo chorus applied too just to polish it but I'm not sure.
      I made these tones when I first started guitar =)

    great technique and form throughout each lick, I find anyone who were classically trained on guitar have amazing left and right hand coordination and are able to play very fast and fluently and Can play and also write some very challenging and difficult pieces that are very creative and innovative and sound amazing especially when it's applied to blues and or metal on electric, before anyone tries to chew my head off lol yes there are just as many maybe more guitarists who can play just as good if not better without being classically trained, I was wondering if you were classically trained at all ? I was when I was younger n only played classical guitar for a long time until I was 14 n heard Randy Rhoads play and it was then I found my inspiration to really want to play metal and blues with a classical approach like Randy did and it helped me to be able to play and write and learn other styles and genres faster and easier and these licks are fucking great so thanks for sharing so I'm going to shut up now lol so I can watch the second video :)

    • @AlfredPotterGuitar
      @AlfredPotterGuitar  7 лет назад

      Nah man i just like and listen to classical music and neoclassical guitarists =] yeah watch the second video! So much better than this one.

      @billygriffin6734 7 лет назад +1

      That's cool man after I finished being taught classical guitar and heard Rhoads I've been teaching myself and finding inspiration through listening to great Guitarists and trying different styles and whatever I like most about each one I try to incorporate it into my own songwriting and second video was fucking amazing man so I subscribed obviously lol ur very talented and ur videos are well put together and professional like, keep up the awesomeness, I'm going to check out a few more videos and im definitely looking forward to watching any new ones you post in the future. Have a good day man. Cheers

      Thank you. The trick is to isolate the sections. Work on the first position for a while. Then the second. And so on. Then join them after practicing them separately. Don't try to practice the whole thing straight away as this approach tends to make our brains get lost.
