love that the most iconic pose in the movie at 3:05 is a quick hit. love it love it lOVE IT
3:06
It really is one of those “blink and you’ll miss it moments”😂
I think it’s a symbol of the film too - the pose. I’m still trying to figure out it’s implications though.
@@zachvii6476 Yes, maybe...i thought abt this way...they are actually making a cross symbol there..but in reality they only be close enough to make it look like that and are not joined...like the same way they cross paths but never be together at the end.... i think u got wat i thought😅😅😊
I also like that they are a bit unsynced with the arms at 2:59. Sometimes imperfection is more likable.
Director Damian Chazelle said in order to capture the beautiful purplish sunset background, they only had an hour and half MAX each day to get their takes.
This scene was shot in two days’ time.
Everyone had to be pitch-perfect ready when the sun is at its most beautiful setting with the purplish-orange hue.
I luv what actors and film crews have to go thru just to capture a few precious moments for cinematic eternity.
A sunset doesn't last 1.5 hours... actually it was far less. "After plenty of rehearsals, In September 2015, Chazelle filmed two takes once the sun was in the desired spot, one at 7:20 p.m. and one at 7:30 p.m. The following day, the schedule was repeated, and the take filmed at 7:30 p.m. on the second day became the one that appears in the movie."
Hey Greasy, it's CGI
It was actually a 20 minute shot that's it and it's perfect
Wasn't it green screen?

No! 8 takes!
I also love movie scenes that are done in (or edited to appear as) long, single shots.
@@kevinhayes6095 actually the scene was in one single shot
@@koushikdas1992 it was four takes and they used the fourth one, according to the Hollywood Reporter... Lmao this is not much compared to Bollywood dances
I love this movie because it takes cinema back to the "Singing in the Rain" era when they did long impressive dance scenes in one take....I miss that in musical movies now a-days
Thinking the same thing, like a throwback
It's exactly why I love this scene! My mom used to love watching old musicals like Singing in the Rain or Hello Dolly, and I think this entire movie is an amazing successor to them. In this scene, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are the 21st century Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers
I don’t know if anyone has realized this yet, but this amazing scene was shot with ZERO cuts, just one giant take. Which I think is amazing.
Imagine being as multi talented as Ryan Gosling...
AND Emma Stone

The thing I love most about this scene is how it’s shot in one full take… makes it feel so original and more authentic
Especially since this was filmed during a real sunset so they had like an hour to get to set and film the whole thing flawlessly.
Should've won the oscar for best picture
princepeterwolf I fully heartedly agree.
Moonlight its overrated
didnt they win that for like 2 minutes?
@@notidentifield1702 Moonlight is overrated? And this is not? Lol. Moonlight was amazing. So was Manchester by the Sea. Both of these movies were better than La La Land.
Moonlight won bc it was a politically correct choice consciously made by the Academy tackling race, drugs, and gay issues. Nothing against those issues, but Moonlight wasn't even close to La La.

It's sarcasm and he's saying it as a joke. When they pulled out the shoes I was thinking of the same thing too, it's hilarious.
It won Best Picture... for about 2 minutes
You know it's a movie about 2 strangers singing and dancing in sync without rehearsal, right?

This scene is what made me want to watch the movie in the first place
Same here. The first time I watched this I thought the movie was boring until this song.
AND IT BROKE ME I THOUGHT THEY WOULD END UP TOGETHER
My aunt passed the year this came out. When I saw the trailer of it I was intrigued. When I found out it was a musical film I was all in. My aunt introduced me to musicals when I was a kid and when I did her eulogy I stated her showing me musicals was a gift to me. I've loved them since. When my mom and I went to see this we loved it and I know my aunt would have too. When ever I see this film or see a musical I always think of her.
2:01 how he jump backward up onto the bench is very impressive, had to repeat that few seconds every time i watch this.

It is called reverse motion cinematography. Don't try this at home.
This is what a movie should be like . Everything in it is on point and for me personally it is one of the greatest movies in the 21st century and definitely will be a classic.

Well, don't think it! Until you've seen a musical from the 50s, you haven't seen anything.
NOPE!
I love the choreography, music, their voices, and how different the movie- musical it is. THE MOVIE STANDS OUT IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The music, the background, the lighting, everything is very well thought out, which makes this scene in the movie great.
One of the best scenes in movie history.
I remember watching this movie as me and my bf"s first movie date when it first came out because I was very excited when it was announced. He took me as a surprise and we even took our photos in a photobooth as well.
I still keep it along with the movie tickets ♡ La La Land remains being my absolute favorite and I will forever cherish this movie.
This is one of my [new] all-time favorites. Truly up there with Casablanca IMO. While the leads aren't tremendous vocalists I think their voices are endearing and add some heart and authenticity to the film. They sing well enough to carry the scenes especially given the incandescent chemistry they obviously share. Their strengths as actors more than compensate for their fair-to-middling singing voices.
I don't usually like musicals, but this one just hits different
honestly, yeah moonlight had impeccable pictures and it was frankly a really good movie, and its message applies to a lot of society's problems today, but la la land certainly deserved more praise for the pictures in this movie. like seriously, these amazing actors did a whole dance set and in the background was one of the incredible Californian sunsets, and it didn't win best picture? and what about the UNFORGETTABLE shots taken during the "what if" scene? really really deserved that best picture. it's not just another movie about society's problems like moonlight, it was a creative and innovative movie that combined hollywood's reputation for inspiring something within watchers and evoking those feelings through great imagery and crafting art like la la land. it is surely a movie that not only is lighthearted and fun to watch, but it also depicts important messages about life and undoubtedly will be remembered as one of the best movies of the decade.
I agree for the most part. Moonlight is a phenomenal movie, don’t undersell it, the emotions at the end are amazing. However, yes La La Land is my favorite movie ever made, and the direction alone pretty much should’ve made it win best picture
Musicals ain't for everyone.
Yes. Despite what the Oscars say one years it’s the longevity of a movie over 20 years that dictates it’s value.
@@jothishprabu8 that isn't the point. La la land encapsulates everything that Hollywood was and is and stands for. For an awards show dedicated to blockbusters and film, it's just a no-brainer to have a film celebrating Hollywoods history and achieving your dreams win best picture instead
moonlight is good but obviously an oscar bait
Let's all agree that this song is a masterpiece, it did not fail to make us happy
I love this woman. The movie just broke my heart at the end. More movies like this one please.

''Daaah that's hot, that's hot''
The scene was shot in 4 ininterupred takes over the course of two evenings. The third take was used. They were challenged with the light and sky changing while shooting on a crane where the operaators and talent had to nail their many marks perfectly. Well done!
The best part is the location they chose and the timing. Perfect enough to create the magical moments...
This movie struck a chord! Reminds us of the road not taken in the real movie of life. Beautiful movie, absolutely loved it!
Why I can't stop smiling during their dance?! OMG this is beautiful in a level my words can't explain!!!
Just rewatched this masterpiece recently and it was amazing the chemistry between Ryan gosling and Emma stone was perfect
I saw no chemistry. The sparring early on. Then at the surprise dinner, she was very nasty. They had no chemistry and obviously were never in love. They were at best helpful to each other for a short period of time but were never in love and the ending was perfectly logical, because of that. There not being a single love scene in the film was the director saying that. Great film, one of the best Iv ever seen.

One of the best moments in movie musical history in my opinion. The vibrant colors, the one shot take, but most importantly, the song itself and the incredible dancing. Pure chef's kiss perfection
Kind of disappointed that when people think of Ryan Gosling's vocal talent they will think of the Barbie movie and not this or even his band. Absolute 10/10 movie

The sun is nearly gone
The lights are turning on
A silver shine that stretches to the sea
We've stumbled on a view
That's tailor-made for two
What a shame those two are you and me
Some other girl and guy
Would love this swirling sky
But there's only you and I
And we've got no shot
This could never be
You're not the type for me
Really?
And there's not a spark in sight
What a waste of a lovely night

Well, let's make something clear
I think I'll be the one to make that call
But you'll call?
And though you looked so cute
In your polyester suit

I predict a serge in new original musicals. In recent years we’ve had, Hamilton la la land and greatest showman. Long may it continue
??? You know there are new musicals every year on Broadway right?
@@Priya-zc1mi yes, but it’s rare for an original movie musical to come out, without it being based on a Broadway musical first, in the way La La Land and The Greatest Showman have. And not everyone has the ability to travel to New York to see a Broadway musical, or even to simply travel to another country just to see a touring version of that musical. So movie musicals are their main or only source.
