Thanks Dylan! I was glad to see them send this to you as I have been waiting for the preorder as well. Of course as I was also excited to see it on your silver A7CR with SmallRig baseplate which is my exact same setup. Some people love to bash the A7C series or even this lens as lacking this or lacking that, but you hit the nail right on the head that people will want these primarily for their size and how fun they are to shoot with, but the quality happens to still be very good as well. This lens is a must buy for me. It will be added to my Sony 40mm 2.5G and Sigma 85mm 1.4 Art.
Just recently got to know about your channel, as I got A7CR as well. Love the production quality of your channel, as well as informative! Keep up the good work 😊
Can't wait to get mine! Just went camping and the few times we quickly went to town for provisions, this lens would have been perfect. Love your videos! Thanks for making this and fueling the excitement :)
The Olympus body cap lens for m43 system had a similar mechanism for the lens cap... but it was a manual focus lens which utilized the focus tab to open and close the "lens cap"
The size is amazing, it is much fun to walk around with such a small setup. But i returned it after a week though, because the lack of quality didnt work for me. Wich is a shame, it is really special in terms of size. But Image quality just is not good enough. I would always regret not to bring a bigger better lens, then my photo would be so much better. Now i had to live with a mediocre photo just because i was to lazy to carry more weight. This lens is only good for casual snapshots in my opinion, wich i feel can be accomplished with a smartphone in the same quality.
Looking to pair the a7c ii with the contemporary "i" line of Sigma's f2 lenses, especially the 50mm and the wider options... Would you make a video of the pair? How do they fare in low light street photography is my main concern coz I don't see anyone else pairing the two and they seem to match one another when it comes to size. Could be an interesting video.
@@DylanBlackburn really? Hmm.. Honestly, that was the exact lens I was thinking of. For you, is it the added weight or is the shape making a deference?
@@SimplestUsername this lens is so small and light it really doesn’t even feel like a lens is on the camera. It’s not much bigger than a sensor cap. The 40mm/24mm/50mm are small but they’re not really pocketable while this lens is. (If it’s a decent size pocket considering the thickness of the A7C) the lens doesn’t really extend far forward beyond the front grip
@@DylanBlackburn I understand that it can be pocketed, but it's that a thing you actually do naturally with the camera? The body is still rather thick.
@@DylanBlackburn Things are going pocketable. This Viltrox and the modular Samyang coming together are a movement in the direction of pocket. The New Leica Q 43mm is also a movement in this direction I would say. I think we have been all waiting for this kind of movements relating to lenses for Sony. And this tiny thing under 100$ is to be grateful. I hope these are the first of many other movements for fixed/pancake/pocketable. I hope sony is working on thr third Rx1r. Btw, considering the pocketable movement I think you should have made this video without that accesory that makes the A7C bigger. Is a lens to make the camera smaller, so don't make it bigger with accesories. Just an opinion. Thank you
Sorry man but this is becoming such a "gear channel" and I gotta unsubscribe. Like you used to be more about the art and the photography and just going outside and taking intersting scenes and nowdays it's all just gear, gear, gear, buy A7CII, buy lenses, buy, buy, buy.
@@CamperIV my channel has always been a balance of both. I just posted one of my favorite photo walks literally last week that did not pertain to gear whatsoever.
I love pancake lenses and I also love pancakes
Let’s go get some pancakes
Pancakes with maple syrup. Yummy!

Looking forward to getting this lens! Thanks for showing us this

That’s pretty cool!
That is amazing. This combo would be truly pocketable.
Indeed it is!!

This is amazing, won't be needing an extra Ricoh GR, just pop on this baby.
Dat dacht ik dus ook.
That's what I thought ❤
The no filter could be solved with a filter that goes in the camera body. Kase Filters make one for the A7C2
Rather than a sliding lens cap, they should have a sliding ND filter.
Wouldn’t make much sense for this lens, but that would be a cool concept
Ever since I bought my A7CII, I've been hoping for a good quality pancake lens to come out. It might be it?!?!
For $99, it can’t hurt to try!!
@@DylanBlackburn I'd love to but it isn't available from Amazon Canada... yet anyway!
@@jean-philippeperetti8463 I don't think it technically release everywhere until the 29th!

This is a really great concept for a lens, especially at this price point!
With small/light and effective products like those, photography is more enjoyable again. Thanks
thanks for watching!
Alright, I’m sold 😮
7Artisans 35mm f5.6 pancake lens has a similar mechanism to avoid lens cap necessity. Also an awesome ultracompact lens. Thanks for the review!
Ah, thanks for letting me know! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Interesting lens, definitely in combination with the A7CII!
What about edge corner Sharpness I want to get light lens for climbing mountain if not well I go to kit lens rout
I'm putting this lens on my Sony A5000 so I can pocket it.
Been waiting for this. Defknitely gonna cop this one. Im surprised it's fixed aperture. Definitely more like a bodycap lens.
I would say it feels like 1 or 2 steps above the 3D printed disposable lenses
@@DylanBlackburn completely fair for the price.
I like small and light lenses, but I feel like pancake lenses aren't any less burdensome than any other lens under 2"
This lens is a HUGE difference compared to something like the Sony 40mm 2.5 G.
