Met him in 1986 in Alexandria, LA. I was walking down the aisle at auditorium he was speaking at and I was shaking a lot of hands as a new guy. Someone joked with me that I looked like I was running for mayor. He turned around and told the guy ‘Our Book guarantees a host of friends buddy! Kid you come up front and sit with me. As the mayor spoke he talked about an oldtimer who was passing judgment on him and his message. Sharing with me as his equal. Took my pigeon out for dinner afterward. Legend.

When Jesus was asked what matters most is that we "Love" unconditionally without anything in return. I do not believe in religion or religous people. AA showed me a path to a God who is what his son described. Love. All incusive never exclusive. Each of Gods children , which is ever living being, is already worthy of that universal love. There are no conditions attached. I am sober and Happy for the first time in years and father Martin is part of Gods will to help me. So for that I am grateful!!

I saw this in my treatment yesterday and really like it. Again, the experience of addiction is something that's hard to understand for those who have not been there. I didn't even technically know he was in recovery, but at the same time, I knew he was. Only a recovering addict knows this stuff.

I hope that all the negative comments are coming from those still suffering. All I can ask is that a recovering alcoholic see that you need help. And that being said, maybe you will see through his belief in you, that yes you are worth living a life were you don't have to wonder "WHAT THE F..." DID I DO AND WHO DID I HARM! If you aren't there right now PLEASE stop listening to this. You're not ready. Please be open and start at the beginning. Step 1 comes before 2, 3,4,5 ETC, right? If you can't do that stop. But please don't judge those who have the desire to do it this way. It's called Chalk Talk In memory of Father Martin. May the wind always be at your back.

No, not everything is considered racist, that's your own perspective and in-fact totally irrelevant to what's going on here. This is FMA. We try our best to keep trolls out of the institution, if only we can do the same for our material on the internet.

John Davis Yes, not literally EVERYTHING. But to deny that race is one of the most misinformed topics in today's society is naive, at best.
Good luck in trying to keep people from bringing up important topics. You've been doing a fine job.

Who is father Martin. I don't see him in any diocese in Maryland. What's his first name and his bishop? The joke was funny about the statue

Joseph C. Martin was a Roman Catholic Priest. He was born and died in Maryland, I think. He could always be Googled.

This has never been and will never be any problem with alcoholics having too little guilt and shame Father.
Some addicts in some cases, maybe. Drunks? No. Yes we need to be better, but guilt can safely be viewed as a character defect for alcoholics, because they have no chance of having too little. NO chance. Thats why being rigorous about the amends phase of out development. Go forward, keep going.
