Honestly, I cried when they sang this at the StarKid Homecoming because it felt like coming home after a long journey. Even though I’d seen Black Friday a few weeks prior something about watching them all singing this together again had me in tears.
@@InquieteNightshade so valid! I got to hear them sing it in ann arbor a couple of times and each time they would replace "hogwarts" with "Michigan" and not a dry eye in the place.
in the long 10 hour livestream, darren talked about how he originally wrote back to hogwarts, and what became harry freaking potter, about returning home to see old friends after a long time, and when he showed that to nick it slowly became the opening song to a musical
so you've probably been told this, but a very potter musical was just a thing they did while they were in college! they never really expected it to blow up. word got around about a harry potter musical, and people were totally digging it that they had to fit people into shows by making them sit on the floor. then they posted it up on yt just for their families snd stuff, but then people actually started watching it too so yep. it was previously named stuff like "harry potter the musical" and "hp the musical" but copyright, so... haha
@Behind The Curve Fun Fact: The food that Joey Richter was eating during the Sorting Ceremony and Tournament Champions Selection was his dinner for the night. He didn't have a chance to eat before the show and was starving so they let him eat during the performance. Interestingly enough, that improv out of necessity is what would lead to Ron Weasley always needing to have a food prop in all three Potter Musicals. Also, Harry Potter is played by Darren Criss of GLEE fame. He and AJ Holmes (the pianist in the background) wrote all the music for the first two Potter Musicals. I know a few people have said this already, but I will repeat it here: Severus Snape was played by Joe Moses. And, last thing I will mention is that Cho Chang was played by Devin Lytle. You may know her from Buzzfeed.
Thats awesome to know about the food bit, I had no clue. I just thought he read the books and it was an homage to Hermione getting on Ron's case for eating so much during the food strike she went on about the House Elves (S.P.E.W.)
While Joey was just straight up eating his dinner, Ron constantly eating during the play was intentionally scripted - that's why they brought the giant chocolate bar Ron has at the start of act 2, and had the 'band gives Ron food' joke ready to go. Joey showed up to every rehearsal eating, so they added it to the show as an inside joke.
29:07 this line is my favourite because Lauren literally NAMED the team right here. It's just fun to watch back where this seemingly random name came from 😍
For the Starkids you haven't seen in other shows: Julia Albain (Crabbe)- Also in ""AVPS", "Starship", "Holy Musical B@tman", and "Ani: A Parody". She wasn't in "AVPSY" due to scheduling conflicts. Tyler Brunsman (Cedric)- Also in "AVPS" and "AVPSY" Richard Campbell (Neville Longbottom)- Also in "Me and My Dick", "AVPS". and "AVPSY" Britney Coleman (Bellatrix)- Also in "AVPS" and "AVPSY". She also sang the song in the closing credits of Twisted Darren Criss (Harry Potter)- Also in "AVPS" and "AVPSY". One of the four co-founders of the Starkid company, as well as wrote/co-wrote all of the music of the first four shows (AVPM, MAMD, AVPS, and Starship)_..........He may have also been in a little known show called "Glee" but that's not really important lol 🤣
(I have to split my comment up because YT is giving me hell with the formatting) Bonnie Socha, née Gruesen, (Hermione)- Also in "AVPS". Bonnie left the group immediately after AVPS and completely vanished off the radar until the 10 year anniversary at Homecoming! Devin Lytle (Cho Chang)- Also in "Me and My Dick", "AVPS" and "AVPSY". Snape was played by Joe Moses who only appears in the Very Potter Musical series as well as in "Ani: A Parody". The guy who played professor Hidgens is Robert Manion who first appeared in Twisted.
I'd just like to point out that the piano player you can see in the background a lot is AJ Holmes who played the comic book writer from "Flop Stoppers" :) and yay that was great, can't wait for the next parts!
I love watching peoples reactions to avpm, and this just seems so cute, if that's the right word? Sweet, content? I'm not sure but it seems so soft and i love it
I first discovered Starkid years ago through this show, all these years later I am still a major fan. You should watch Holy Musical B@tman next because it's fantastic
This particular reaction means a lot to me. Thank you so much for watching so closely and mentioning the things you like at the end. This makes me so nostalgic and happy!
I’m so frustrated bcs I’ve been trying to become a patreon for a while but for some reason it won’t accept my card and I just want to see this particular reaction so bad!
If you haven't already watched it, I'd suggest reacting to Joey Richter ("sleazeball")'s cover of Confrontation from Jekyll and Hyde, it's hilarious Edit: he already did lol
Part 2 is supposed to be up by the time I'm writing thus comment and its not up. Not even the premier 15 minute notice. Did I not get the memo? Am I going crazy? Its supposed to be every Monday, wednesday, and friday at 5 CST right?
the opening number to this show will always feel like coming home to me.

I didn't know that was Darren Chris, I thought he looked so familiar and I couldn't figure out why.

To think in an alternate universe, they could've been named Moonshoes Productions! 🤣
@@HaunaMyKiki or starship productions and then have a show called Starkid
In alternate universe, we have Team Moonshoes
"I wonder if this is going to be like book #1 in musical form." And I died laughing right there.

I think the word you're looking for is "wholesome".
The guy playing Snape is Joe Moses! Robert Manion's first Starkid show was Twisted :D
I’m just waiting for the sequel with Lupin, who’s my favorite (second after Voldemort) character in the series, followed closely by Gilderoy
Gilderoy Lockhart?
Hannah Whitson that’s it
Why? We all know that LUPIN CAN'T SING, LUPIN CAN'T SING, LUPIN CANNOT SING!
29:08- That's when the official production was chosen.
I first discovered Starkid years ago through this show, all these years later I am still a major fan. You should watch Holy Musical B@tman next because it's fantastic
Yesss finally! The musical that started it all!!! And now I have an excuse to re-watch it (not that I normally need one but ya know lol)
quirell's and voldemort's relationship arc is my reason for breathing honestly 😂💙
Yes! Glad you have subtitles
Fun fact: At least half of the show's budget was spent on Ron's snacks.
Fun fact: this all started because he hadn't eaten dinner beforehand once,
So he took it with him on stage.
I’m so glad this was today I just started summer school for highschool so I was super stressed but this will help tons
ron in this musical is basically just an exaggerated version of joey richter that gets angry a lot 😂
and eats a lot
So That’s how the first date with Lauren went: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
This particular reaction means a lot to me. Thank you so much for watching so closely and mentioning the things you like at the end. This makes me so nostalgic and happy!
this is saving my evening! Thank you! :)
I can't wait for him to see all the shows and then see homecoming
starkid!harry being confident and egotistical and basically what book!snape thought he was is so funny i love him
IM SO EXCITED
I love Jim (goyle)
i know all the words and i love this so much omg, it feels so nostalgic to watch it again
I have been waiting for this!!!
I just floo powder powered my way into an ad
I love Darren Criss He can do anything
This is All Your Fault -Jafar- Hermione
This production may have been low budget but it's my fave from starkid... it's SO good.
32:17 Don’t you mean totally awesome :))))
You can really feel the fact that they just got high and wrote this whole thing.
A million times better than the books imo lol.
Please do reactions to their sequel musical xD
I already did :)
