  • XDefiant is still not available on Steam, and there's no doubt that releasing it on Steam would help the game. However, it needs to be done at the right time and in the right way.

This would definitely help the game grow in terms of allowing it to be more accessible for those who do not want multiple game launchers and who only main steam.

Ubisoft as a corp is going up in flames rn, their flagship AAA single player games are going to start shipping on Steam Day 1 as of yesterday signaling they are abandoning their Ubisoft Connect strategy, so I think it’s only a matter of time before XDefiant comes over to Steam as well, likely sooner rather than later.

I think besides the issues one problem is I feel is that they don’t cater to new players only sweats to have a healthy eco system you also need to think about the casual players with games like cod do a bit too much in my opinion but it’s the balance between casuals and hardcore players

think once the game is sorted network wise, it's almost acceptable now, it would go big on steam. I only have minor gripes about my favorite tac rifle (mk20) catching silent nerfs now. A few more maps would be cool but all around i'm quite happy with the progress the game has made. It'll continue to improve which makes me even happier. Private matches are gonna be fun, would love a LAN mode for private maps and training mode, no need for private and training to take up their server time IMO. I guess game battles would be more fair on their servers so maybe private AND LAN modes. I'm sure they have a plan and I'm sure it'll work out.

While I know most PC players would give xDefiant a second look if it was on Steam, I doubt Ubisoft would shoot themselves in the foot doing that. Having xDefiant on Uplay means they keep an additional 30% more revenue on all in-game purchases. You have to remember that live service games are about the big gamble that this will be the next Fortnite to publishers.
I actually think of the inverse in the industry and think how tempting that 100% market share is on live service games because of Sony. Sony's ex-CEO, Jim Ryan, saw how much money games like Fortnite made by their own 30% rips on Playstation and wanted a piece of the pie. I think most of us would look at Sony's position and say they were fine collecting 30% off all live services, but they still have several games in production to be the new Fortnite, even after Concord's failure.
If I were the Ubisoft CEO, I'd look at my declining share prices and I still wouldn't move it to Steam because it's a short-term solution that will hurt in the long run IF and only IF xDefiant becomes relevant again in the greater gaming public conciseness. Live Service games are not about making some of the money; they want all of the money, and while that leads to anti-consumer practices like every company making their own launcher, we also have examples from other industries that show it's what corporations do.
I want all my television shows on Netflix, but if you wanna watch your sitcoms, you need Peacock, or if you wanna watch The Last of Us or Penguin, you need MAX, etc. Making fans happy now does not pay off because, especially in the gaming industry, a lot of us have guppy memories. A company like Bethesda will kick us in the head, Todd Howard will do a few interviews, and everyone forgets the controversy because there's a new thing to get mad at.
Not to mention, with all the talk of xDefiant being "dead," I bet the team is really happy not to have player numbers public. From Tom Henderson's report, the ballpark was around 20k, but Ubisoft has confirmed on their end that they want to keep investing in the team. That ambiguity opens a nice veil to assuage any doubts about the player population
Tl:dr: Steam is good. Steam makes PC players more likely to try xDefiant. Ultimately, it is too costly for Ubisoft to do it outside of a last-ditch effort to revive the game; even then, it's a low possibility.

I would say that as much as this makes sense. It's sad that most people forget and move on. Most people will label this the "former cod killer" when in reality cod will kill itself. One of the aspects that I find crazy is how do people still support a company that had demonic/diabolical levels of practices that happened within their own company and dev teams yet people always gobble up the games like it's the greatest thing.
Xdef isn't perfect and I don't expect it to be but I want to have hope for a shooter that will survive and be enjoyable for years to come. I used to play alot of warzone but after the allegations came out and it was around MWII was coming out. I saw that they really want to do as little as possible and get the most money. People will say "Cod is on steam" and sure but they hold a market and need to be caught on check with competitive games like xdefiant. If xdefiant dies, then cod pretty much goes back to even being worse and opens the door to behavior I don't want to press or think about.

Watching tv is something that i hated paying for like disney + hbo, and hulu so i just decided to pirate them. any movie anytime. not gonna pay for something and hope it will be good again. And i have to disagree on ur comment. Ubisoft's money makers are all on steam. R6, far cry, AC, the crew 2(RIP) are on there. I think the just make a mistake making XD free. At least from my experience browsing games i just don't go to the free sections expecting there to be a good game that i haven't played before. RL, Fortnite, maybe warzone, and war thunder are all that remains of the free section that's decent quality games and gets players. Its been in the back of my head saying "what if". What if XD was 20-30 bucks at launch? Would it get the recognition and attention? of course its too late now but i keep wondering. I also keep thinking Ubisoft+ but subscription services are just abused nowadays(could've been great but capitalism) but i dont see it as the way to go. ofc Rocket League as i remember went from ab $40 down to gamepass to free so i dont see a reason XD couldn't do the reverse if they needed to. also i have p iracy links if yall want

Like i said with the lack of Sbmm in my opinion they need to cater a lot more stuff towards new players and casual players now exactly how idk but as of this moment this game is more for hardcore players that’s tired of matchmaking in cod it’s another alternative but what about people who maybe started playing fps for the first time or haven’t played that long give hardcore players something to grind other then camos keep the game fresh and also more friendly toward new players other game modes etc I don’t have the answers but I gotta say the way the game is now casuals will leave there is no Sbmm to protect them if you don’t bring a whole lotta content out even the hardcore players will eventually leave

6:29-7:25 Completely agree with both of your points here!
Firstly why are they pricing of the store is this high? I just don't het their high pricing ideology cause if they priced things lower, many people would buy more stuff from the store and in the end it will be more profitable for them over selling less stuff with higher price. Many who plays Free2Play games are the ones that don't wanna spend much but you can attract those players with low prices and they might go out and actually purchase something but if the see $30-40 price tag, they will never touch it. Plus they need to fix their Ubisoft Store cause that ain't custom friendly either but that's a different discussion.
And secondly, I thought XDefiant gonna shy away from COD's mistakes but why did they choose Bundle Method for selling stuffs just like COD? Maybe they could've set an example by having a hybrid option where people having the choice of buying items individually or buy a bundle. Also, to balance things up, they could've made it like where the price of individual items could've been a bit high but in bundle they would some sort of discount like 10-20% less price compare to the individual items price. A big fumble from Mark and his team.

  • @alicedescartes
    @alicedescartes 13 дней назад

One small correction, just a teeny tiny piece of misinformation that isn't quite entirely accurate-- you *can* purchase items that are in a bundle separately! ...but only if they appear as an individual item in the shop. Which happens often across many bundles, but the odds of that item being the one you want from the bundle you had considered are... low, to say the least.

If season three fixes netcode / hit reg entirely so its like a COD game, yes. If not, no. Steamites rip a lot of early access games but some reviews give a pass for being in that release state. Xdef will get review bombed because it's full release hit reg is iffy, and other AAA FPS games have netcode / hitreg working as advertised. MW III has good hit reg and all the basics you mentioned, but its review bombed (campaign sux/ laughable, MP cheating, it felt more like MW II DLC, dev issues, option paralysis with guns / attachements / skins etc). Many Steam wish listing and purchasing follow reviews, with many choosing to add or buy on mainly positive reviews. Finally, any game has easy access to its player base, count, stats, and graphs even (steam db, like weekly player count, or daily etc) and a low player base will allow haters to easily pull up graphs to meme / joke the game.

it's because most people really are smooth brains, I'm with you though its been rough AF the last few weeks. Seems like there's a lot of pub stomping squads the last couple weeks. It actually means the game is healthy, but it sucks as a solo player. Time to recruit your crew/squad up. I don't mind getting stomped as i find joy trolling better players and squads. It was a bit more cathartic breaking peoples killstreaks in COD though as you are denying them something other than a little weapon XP.
