Hey everyone! I just released an online course on how to create realistic photo caricatures! Check it out here... www.serkanyener.art More drawing tutorials coming soon!
Yeah I know :) Been working on other big projects and i am not very good at multitasking lol. Will hopefully find the time to make more tutorials one day.
I always thought people using this technique had super human drawing powers. Easier to learn than you think & get 4 or 5 drawings in you really begin to master the technique. Great video hope you get loads of subs, I for one am subscribing to your channel.
Thanks very much. I have been drawing with pencils for at least thirty years and for some reason I still find hair one of the most challenging aspects of my drawings, and I rarely get it right. Big help, thanks again.
Dude I NEVER leave youtube comments or "like" videos but these little techniques are great. I haven't drawn since I was a kid and now I'm getting back into it (at 26) thanks man! LLAP.
This is a phenomenal video tutorial, Hair is my weak suit, but now Its so much easier, I'm not even kidding, this is literally the best online tutorial for hair that I've come across .
Thank you for this! Hair has been my nemesis for ages now and a lot of tutorials are just needlessly complicated. I actually managed to pull this off without much practice, so thanks!
This tutorial helped me so much and i think my hair drawing skills have massively improved. This is a great first tutorial and i think you should definitely continue making them.
Great tips and advice; enjoyed the step by step detailed explanation of the technique and tools used from scratch to finish and the calm tone of voice. Thank you! Keep up the good work :) looking forward to seeing more from you.
This was really incredibly helpful. But instead of buying compressed pieces of paper, i just taped some tissue paper over an empty mechanical pencil, and it works just the same.
At last a tutorial that really teaches you how to draw hair. Great! If you can't find a paper stump (or paper pencil) , it's probably easier to use a cotton Q tip than your finger or a tissue. You can also use a kneaded eraser to make highlights. These erasers can be kneaded in any form you wish and you don't have to clean it all the time. An electric eraser (with a pointed tip) could also work for those highlights.
Thanks for comment :) I have actually tried kneaded erasers (a few different brands) but I wasn't as satisfied with the results. They were a bit too soft and I felt I couldn't rub out lines as fine as I could with the erasers in the tutorial. Maybe theres better quality ones that I don't know of though so not saying they are all bad.
DrawForYou I once read that kneaded erasers that are made in China are harder than the ones made in other countries and my own experience with Chinese kneaded erasers seems to confirm this, they’re quite hard. They’re even difficult to knead! So you may want to get a hold of a Chinese made eraser and try it out. However, for this tutorial, a kneaded eraser is not necessary, I’ve found that your idea of a sliced piece of eraser works very well. But for those people who are thinking of using charcoal, a kneaded eraser is indispensable, since an ordinary eraser would smudge and ruin a charcoal drawing quickly.
Thanks you! I am a long time drawer/ artiest whatever you want to call it, and this has helped so much the only thing i have ever had trouble with is hair!!
I found you video on you tube and you help me greatly. I"m retire and just stated doing portraits about a month ago and the video gave me in sight to the process .Thanks
+Lelouch As he mentioned ""HOW TO "" ........, so he just shared a nice technique to do it and it's your responsibility to continue shading till it looks "realistic". Because you know, shading is what makes any drawing/painting "realistic" ...... Some things should be understood by people without any explanations instead of leaving sarcastic comments tho.
this is the best drawing tutorial on youtube! the way you explain it is absolutely great. subscribed in a hope to see more of this kind of videos :) thank you very much!
Who else cried for 10 minutes straight because their art teacher told them to follow this and u messed up the first two times by accidently turning in ur realistic drawing of a severed head and their mom came in and yelled at them to redo it again because you did another drawing and then another but messed up and was told to do another ? No? Just me? Ok
While I understand that there are techniques and methods that are sometimes more "correct" than others...it's art, do whatever you like or whatever works best for you. I used smudging as a way to speed things up as I was running a business and I couldn't spend 2 days on one drawing. If I was drawing just for fun, and I had all the time in the world, I would probably not smudge as much.
Life Randomness Music Don't let your teacher place limitations on your artistic expression. Experiment your self and figure out what you like and what is comfortable for you, then do that. As +Noah Ferro put it, as long as you aren't accidentally creating smudge marks or grease marks where you don't want them (try to use blending stumps or tissue), than how is smudging any different from cross-hatching or stippling. It's just another technique and shouldn't be forbidden by art teachers. I find it unnecessary to sit there and slowly shade things carefully, when I know I can smudge/blend and have the same result in a 10th of the time. This is especially true when it comes to larger areas. Having said all that, I have also seen "bad" smudging too, where things just look like a big giant mess....but maybe that's what the artist wanted so again...totally fine ;)
After going through my old stuff and my partner stumbling across my drawings from some 15-20 years ago Ive decided to go back to where I left off as she was blown away by my face sketches, I was never great at hair though so this video was excellent. Subbed buddy.
Thanks that was so good the other tutorials just so people scribbling and making masterpieces but you actually showed the struggles and effort and explained.
well done , excellent teaching and work too , make more , they will be of great value to many , easy , patient delivery and suprerb results , an accomplished artist ,
i had done this without learning any where else.. i am shoked that without learning anywhere from where i got the techniques... the same way you are doing i use to do .. so many years ago
Love how you actually explain what you're doing it makes it super helpful and easy to understand! And not to sound weird but I absolutely love your accent! :)
I think your comparison for negative neutral positive would be better like this - positive is the lightest touches (like chords of a piano or cymbals - these often arent noticed immediately but are important), neutral is the medium tone (like the melody of a saxophone or singer - these are what people will notice) and negative tones are the darkest tones (like the bass or the drums these exist to support the rest of the song but). I realise that the idea of negative being dark tones might not make a lot of sense immediately but in my opinion if you think of it in terms of dark and light gradient it does make sense.
I found this really usefl. I have only just started trying to draw and am always on the look out for 'easy' hints and tips and this is the best so far, for hair. I hope you do more, soon, that will help beginners. Thanks so much.
Great video. Very straightforward and easy to follow. You've inspired me, I've always been a little frightened of drawing hair, now I have a method to start me off and improve upon.
Thanks a lot for this! It really helped because before, I used to draw around the areas I wanted to be highlighted, and I searched for videos that have an easier way and most of them showed harder, more professional ways to do them. This video though helped!

Thank you. Hair was something I always struggled with. This helps loads. Cheers mate
Eddie Bruce cheers mate
Oh my god bless you for this video! If it wasn't for you, I'd would have never gotten an A on my art project for school!
Nice! I got a B, but my friend drew a piece of bacon and got an A 😡 (then again, the teacher probably hates manga)
+Cato Your teacher may or may not hate manga, but I imagine the larger issue is that if you're drawing symbols.
Congratulations

Thank you thank you thank you!!!! Now I'm drawing hair very beautifully and it took me 30 minutes to learn!!!!
realistic HEEEAH
+Lelouch If that was sarcasm, I think it looks very realistic. If not, okay then.
+Lelouch It´s much closer to "real" than basic drawings using only pencil traces. It´s very good for general illustration.
People, I think they were only making fun of the way the guy said "hair" :)
Raul Defnestee It's all a big misunderstanding. I was mocking his accent.

Wait...your art teacher told you to follow my tutorial? Well, that's flattering!
haha
@@SerkanYenerArt mine linked this video in an assignment 🤷♂️
this really helped me grasp the idea of smudging.. and of course, the hair do too.
but my teacher told us not to smudge ( o darn )
While I understand that there are techniques and methods that are sometimes more "correct" than others...it's art, do whatever you like or whatever works best for you. Depends what you're doing really.
Mine too! Mr roten
Anisa Ally That's what our art teacher says as well, it's really annoying!
