Not to mention he's a phenomenal all rounder in both formats. Not an easy thing at all. Btw for Kallis it's 48 in Aus. (I'm going by venue as that gives clear picture. Always do. Coz I don't list Anderson in my all time top 3 despite him being lead wicket taker). While his batting avg may be low in England, his bowling avg is a stellar 29.3. He adapted his game well. And he's a phenomenal team player. He's one of the few who makes in both my fav 11 & best imo 11 all time lists.

    What a great call by Warne. I didnt ever hear Sir Don talk about Lara but I heard his commentary when Tendulkar first came to Australia and he made a comment after a few over. He said that Tendulkar had the finest technique he had ever seen. I believe it was in Adelaide and he was a guest commentator, I didnt really understand what he had said, but being a cricket tragic that I am I didnt quite forget it. I remember staring at the screen and wondering if Sir Donald's eyesight or mind had gone.... Over the next couple of decades I saw on the scoreboards of the cricket world just what he had meant.... So I will retire from assessing and keep being a cricket tragic... cheers..

    Lara was very tentative during start of his inning , his greatness lies in the fact that he had to play with 10 jackasses in his team due to which his record might not be that sparkling. Sachin on the other hand , had commitment of a different level. His understanding of game , pitch , field was unparalleled in the history of cricket. I had the privilege of watching sachin grow up from close quarters so only a genius like warnie will be able to recognize another genius. It was almost impossible to run out sachin as he had so much confidence in his placing and speed at which ball is traveling in the outfield. He was a complete player. It is by no means belittling the genius of lara who was one of the greatest when he was in mood.

      There was no pressure at all with Sachin. You had others like Dravid, Ganguly, Laxman who equally carried the Indian team.
      For West Indies they relied heavily on Lara, he was always under pressure. Most of the runs he made totalled almost half of the team's put together.
      That's why Lara is rated way above all the Batsmen, his records of 400 runs no in test and 501 in first class are there to stay, for years to come.

    More Votes by the Greatest ones (Bradman) & Contemporaries, & chosen by Wisden and Richie Benaud & others in all-time Test XI : SACHIN, although only by a little margin.
    One batsman who is a must-pick in MY all-time Test XI : BOTH
    Finally, the Best of their Era, & certainly in the Top 5 Greatest Batsmen of all time in Test Cricket. It's tough to decide who was better, but Brian Lara was better in his peak form.

    Pretty good analysis from someone who would know. Batting is also about how your team is performing. Put Tendulkar or Lara or even Bradman in the west Indies team of the 80's or the Australian team of the 2000's and their records/statistics would be different as they would not have had to bat as long to save their team rather than winning games. Imagine Viv's record if the west indies had to chase or make bigger totals in the second innings or he didn't have such a great batting line up around him. Warne is going on pure one on one experience , you don't get his opinion from reading reams of stats , its much purer and more genuine. Sachin and Lara were 2 of the all time greats , there was very little between them on the field so anyone who says Lara/Tendulkar is way better than the other is pretty ignorant. Off the field , as Warne says , Tendulkar had staggering pressure on him and he performed so consistently. Both were way better than the next batsman

    • @geographyhistorygeopolitic3851
      @geographyhistorygeopolitic3851 2 года назад

    Lara and Tendulkar both are great. No doubt. But some of Lara's knocks won high visibility and most crucial / critical test matches for the West Indies. It was almost a single-handed effort. On the contrary, some of Sachin's great knocks in high visibility and crucial matches, ended up being for a losing cause as India lost those matches. That's why it appears like Lara played more match-winning knocks.
    But if you see the statistics and percentage of match-winning (overall) knocks, Sachin's 100 centuries (Test + ODI), have won India about 50% of the matches while Lara's 53 centuries (Test + ODI) might have won WI about 30% of the matches.

One example i would like to say here is India vs aus. 2009 when aus scored 347 and India could not manage 14 runs. (Imagine a 35 year old guy just supported by raina i believe). Like wise, check the score card when tendulkar scores a 100 and what do remaining batsmen in the team score and india looses. Cricket is team game.
