I do this all the time with my favorite characters. Discipline and Gunslinging are a must for me. Discipline because I prefer to stay in light encumbrance at all times, and Gunslinging because like you said, it’s the one everyone should always want! I like to pair Powerhouse and Swordplay together personally because I like drop kicking fools and using the standing execution to insta-kill zeds. Also though, ever since they fixed Acrobatics to where you don’t roll every time you hit the dodge button, I like it too and I will pair Acrobatics with Close Combat so I can hit them with the flying knee and quickly execute them while downed.
Not lame at all. I like building my own stories, so a role play a lot when I play this. I’m not an optimal builder, I build my base and characters according to a story I’m playing out.

I just recruited my first survivor with the Survived Blood Plague attribute, he is immune to the blood plague, only took a few years but of course he had crap adv training options so I have collected from trader respec books and got him perfect now.
Cardio= Backpack (+1 inventory slot) Inteligence= resourcefulness (+1 inventory slot) Strength= Any one you want Shooting= Assault (60 bullet pack per slot and more item stack)
My ideal kit is probably a backpacking, resourceful, assault, melee skill is whatever I feel suits the survivor, I like to carry lots of stuff, even if I don’t end up needing all of it, it’s always good to have. Bonus points for also having sewing skill and the hidden pouches trait
Two best skills are "Weapon Handling" and "Stealth" are a must for any and every character. Weapon Handling allows you to unjam guns without having to do so at base. Stealth allows you to sprint while in crouch, also unlock doors while in crouch. If you ask me that is essential with "Lethal" difficulty.

My perfect survivor: Backpacking Discipline Sharpshooting Autonomy I take these 4 because of the much health and stamina, the green backpack zone raise up to 40lbs and the ability to take 3-4 zombs with only 1 bullet and autonomy for the +84 health and the ability to take a zombie down easily with your hands. Discipline for the backpack capacity, +21 stamina, I have like 3-4 characters with those, one has 301 health and 289 stamina:))
I’m like you, I only recruit does who are cool, or have a vibe that I really like, or I just create this persona for them from a movie or tv show of zombies if they look a bit alike, let’s say Michonne or Daryl from TWD they’re are really lovable and dope characters.

I think my favorite character named Crusher is broken as discipline does not give her plus 30 light carrying capacity but she is definitely my coolest character
My heartland characters almost all them have gunslinger skill. And I got 4 powerhouse characters with at least 2 weapon handling skilled characters I'm too over powered in heartland, i have strong guns, plague busters to tear all plague freaks into miserable pieces "I AM TO BE FEARED" I'm state of decay 2 juggernaut edition.
This is a good tip for new players. Theses skills are not that rare. I say that because a rare skill trader come every Saturday and sometimes twice a week now. They are expensive, 1,500 influence I think.
I've always seen 1,500...I don't often see them because I work weekends. I'm glad they are getting more frequent. I can usually game a bit on weekends, but not long enough for the trader to show up...most of the time. Thnx for the info!
If I need a heavy loot hauler, Backpacking, Resourcefulness and either Endurance or Swordplay, and then Assault. Carry all the things. However a lightweight Character is fun too, Marathon, Discipline for more light carry weight or Stealth for a ninja, then either Close Quarters or Swordplay, for light weight and quick executions or Swordplay for more melee focused. Gunslinging of course for snapshot since I'll regain stam while sprinting.
And of course you can dupe them. Then just set your people up with a sheriffs lounge and references book mod. Watch video repeatedly until all are maxed. Fun fun fun until daddy takes the t-bird away..
I don't fully understand the question, but it will allow you to re-specialize in any of the top four skills. You cannot change the fifth skill, or your players traits. Does that answer your question?

Really enjoying the game. However, i never have any ammo. Which really isn't ideal when i come across juggernaut's etc. What would you say is the fastest eeay to obtain the mechanic skill. Do traders still only come for the weekend or is it now all week?
You have to give it to someone with an empty 5th skill. If they already have a fifth skill, they can’t read it. Read it by putting it in your inventory and pressing X

Thx for this was very helpful I thought that using these manuals crippled your survivor making it so you can't max your skill there is a panaltiy for using them. For example u retrained for gunslinger but it can only go to 5 or 6 stars instead of 7. I never recruit survivors who can't max out.

It seems that the survivor TRAITS have a lot to do with what skills they get offered. Maybe google “which traits give me close combat sod2” also, there are skill books that allow you to change you skill. I have some, I can give u

Playing in green zone is the best way. Be careful if u r changing difficulties, it may put u back in the starter base. If u don't want to do that, looting and trading is good. Running missions is also good. If u want books, I'm happy to give them...if u enjoy hunting for them, that's cool too!

I find assault is better for shotguns bc it controls the massive upward recoil, which is good for spamming.

I think backpacking, resourcefulness, and assault are a good combo. Extra pockets, double consumable stack size and 50% larger ammo stack's.

Funnily enough, weapon handling is also he last spec I would go for with shooter, gunslinger and sharpshooter especially being my go to.

I have the computer skill book but I cant get anyone to read it any idea how I can get someone trained in computers?

Yes, there are survivors with only four skills. Once they have a fifth skill, u cannot remove it or change it.

What's the best way to farm influence I'd like to be ready if I ever encounter a trader with one of these books
Playing in green zone is the best way. Be careful if u r changing difficulties, it may put u back in the starter base. If u don't want to do that, looting and trading is good. Running missions is also good. If u want books, I'm happy to give them...if u enjoy hunting for them, that's cool too!
