ℹ In the interwar years, Warsaw was not a particularly religious city. However, the situation changed after the outbreak of World War II. During the years of occupation, the trauma related to the war, the collapse of the state and the constant threat of death, thousands of Warsaw’s inhabitants returned to regular religious practices. Moreover, the hardship they faced during the Warsaw Uprising caused a further deepening of their faith in God and the need for a spiritual life.
