I really wish you would make an actual cookbook! I’m very old school, I’m 58 years old, and just love having an actual book to flip through. Have a beautiful week ✌🏼💚🙏🏼
Thank you! Me too. Not sure why I let it sit on the back burner for so long. Ohh, didn't think about different foods like plant milks. Interesting. Thank you.
@@Simnettnutrition because you were busy working on the next e-book (which we love)! I learned that a lot of common plant milks have a lot of added oil in them, and some have greater environmental impacts (water consumption) than others. Appreciate all your time and effort creating content!
Thanks Mel! I definitely needed lots of butter and salt when I was younger to get them down. I have learned that some people taste bitter foods differently. You are probably someone who has those good genes!
My mom over boiled them for us 50 years ago. I remember her notching the base beforehand. I liked them because I knew they were healthy and I wanted to grow stronger and taller which I did 😊
Yes, over boiling them can cause them to become bitter too! Haha, maybe I didn't eat enough as a kid, I was too busy downing gallons of milk trying to grow!
Mine boiled/overboiled them as well! I’m 60, so this was around that same timeframe where I remember hating Brussels Sprouts because they were mushy. Is your mom German by any chance?
@@heidikamrath1951 no but my brother in law is so I’ll ask his mom for her recipe 😁 She went vegan after she got cancer diagnosis at 75. She is now healthy at 81. But like my mom and many older people they stopped eating their veggies 😕
I know, I thought so too! Ohh good idea. There was a bit of omega 3 in these, did you see? During the nutritonal analysis it shows. Nothing like flax seed, but there's some!
Love brussels sprouts, but I just don’t eat them much because it’s not one of my frequently bought vegetables. Your delicious Brussels sprouts recipe & mustard nutritional tip encourages me to eat them more. Can you do a video on carrots with a few interesting ways to make them. Even though carrots start off plain, they’re still one of my favorite vegetables.
Great video! Thank you for the tip about shredding the brussels sprouts and putting them in a stir fry. I'd never thought about having them that way. Thank you for all you cover on this channel. You always do a fantastic job.
If you don’t have the time to grate them yourself, you could always buy the Brussels sprouts ‘leaves’ from Trader Joe’s. No need to grate the sprouts by hand that way!
I’m craving Brussels Sprouts at 10:30 at night, thanks to your video!😂. I’ll definitely be looking for them during my next grocery trip. Great information, Derek! Congrats on the great eBook🎉
Without going back and checking the AF playlist.. (holy crap, AF! AMAZING FOOD AF BABY!) Here's my list of foods I'd like to see you cover: - Mushrooms - Asparagus - Sea vegetables - Walnuts - Lemons/limes - Beans - Amaranth - Pomegranate - Figs - Chuckleberries - Squash - Mint - Coconut -JK about Chuckleberries I made that up
I make a big pot of sautéed Brussels sprouts for the week, with garlic onions in low sodium veggies broth with pumpkin and green beans. Season to taste 👌🏽😍
We and our 5 and 2yr olds eat Brussels weekly but i had never thought of slicing thinly like that! Seriously a game changer idea for a quick veggie!!!😲
A great recipe: B Sprouts, Yukon Gold potatoes, yellow onion, chopped firm tofu, corn, dash of apple cider vinegar, dash of Dijon mustard, tamari, the powders, and a dash of cayenne pepper. It's simple and amazing. I made it up watching your vids. Ha!
I love sprouts. We get a local veg box and they always come on the stem. I have a 3 tier electric steamer and often steam them whole along with lots of other veg. Love the stir fry recipe and will definitely try it
This is my favorite series on the channel. Would you be willing to do a video on how to select foods that are in season? It’s not nutrition specific, but just going into why it’s important, energy cost for out of season crop transport as well any possible studies on the nutrient levels for both groups if they vary? I’m sure others have done videos on this but I like your video flow/perspective both from a health and ethical standpoint.
Thanks for the great video! I just finished meal prepping for the week and my prep included a shaved Brussels sprouts salad with chopped walnuts, sunflower seeds, pomegranate arils, dried cranberries, diced green apple, and a maple mustard dressing! So I actually ate Brussels sprouts while watching this video!
Yayyyyy my favorite series is back! I stg this is the series that kickstarted my passion for nutrition probably like…. 4 years ago. ( the hybridization history is fascinating. 🤓)
Just cut up what i thought was way to much brussels sprouts for me to finish for the week. Now that i finished this video knowing what i know i should've bought way more!
I would eat 30 Brussels sprouts. Steamed Brussels sprouts are my favorite. Nice choice. They are specific in their healing abilities as well. E n j o y.
This is a great video, didn't realize this was a series till now! I'm just finishing up my nutrition degree, and still learning so much interesting here, it's super helpful. :) I'm gonna go back and binge the others :D Edit: So cool that you did one on beets - beetroot (/nitrates) and exercise performance is exactly what my thesis is on!!)
Not me making another comment! I just made this for my family and everyone thought it was great! Served over quinoa and rice. Banana and satsuma for dessert.
How about Lentils. I make Lentils my taco filler. I just add 4 TBLS of taco seasoning with 2 cups of Lentils and 3 cups of water and cook them in the instant pot for 11 minutes. They are fantastic as a taco filler. Easy too!
All cabbage types are high in calcium and vitamin C and vitamin K. If you also ferment them, you get an actual IDEAL super food! Especially an ideal calcium supplement. I love sauerkraut
Brussel Sprouts are my favorite vegetable. I usually buy them frozen, throw them in a microwaveable dish with 1 - 2 tablespoons of water & cook for 8 minutes. I not only eat them when they're hot but if there are leftovers, they are great cold, too. This is definitely a recipe I will try. Thank you for sharing. I'd also like to see recipes featuring zucchini & eggplant if you haven't done them already.
I made a recipe few years ago always winging recipes for a Christmas lunch with family n friends and I made a raw salad with raw Brussels Sprouts and a dressing to go with it and people whondodnt like Brussels loved the salad I made I look forward to making it round Christmas this year
Such a cool story! I love that Brussels have been improved by science. Dang, the science of the antioxidants!! You are awesome for doing this research!! Thank you thank you!! Just love watching you Derek.
so glad you've bought back the amazing food series back again. I'll definitely be looking for brussels the next time I'm in the supermarket. Thank you!
Love this video! Off to watch the rest of the series :) Could you cover eggplant? I really want to like eggplant but idk if I'm just not preparing it right or what but would love to learn more about it from this series!
Hi Derek not a fan of Brussel sprouts but I will try them again the way you prepared them. Thanks for the information and for sharing the recipe. My regards to Crystal.
I love brussels sprouts and cabbage, and am glad you're continuing this series. You should do a video on the history/benefits of modern peppers and then some dishes centered around them. Spicy peppers like jalapeno, poblano, serrano, habanero and the benefits of capsaicin, and then sweet/bell/mini peppers too!
Ok, so this is so weird because I just bought some about 2 days ago and just added a little bit of salt and olive oil and absolutely loved them! Watching whole video because I want to know about their nutrition.. thanks!
Yeah, they are great: sort of fleshly, nutricious, tasty, and filling. I never thought of slicing them and throwing them on noodles 👍 ... Eat them raw? I don't know... That stir-fry made my mouth watery; it definitely needs a slice of toast... Excellent video: very educational, tasty and fun 🍜
Derek, great to have that series back. Can you make a video how to make broccoli sprouts. Tried it several times and didn't work. Also I would love to here your practical thoughts about how to get the suoverofan from frozen cruziverous vegetables 😁. Thanks
This is awesome! Thanks! I love Brussels sprouts but didn't as a kid- I always thought it was how my mother cooked them hahaah!!!!! Would love videos on mushrooms and eggplant!
Yum! I roasted some recently with equal parts mustard and maple syrup and they were so good, but I like what you did with the tamari, maple syrup, seasonings and adding the mustard in last. Sounds amazing!

HAVENT SEEN THIS SERIES IN A WHILE!!! Love it! And I like you pick stuff people generally hate. Gives them a reason to love it. 👊🏽 🦇
Trying to change some minds! Thank you.
I wasn't a fan when I was younger but love them now, great video buddy.💪🌱🌅
Putting them in the air fryer is also good and quick.
Great video! Cool story about the sprouts getting less bitter. I would love to see a video on foods that contain Omega 3s.

Same experience for me as a young boy my mother always pushed me to eat just one. I hated it! But now 50 years later I love them.
