You have my Number 😂 I'll probably have some Arctic Cooler for the Socket... 😁 Can't wait for the Voodoo to finally get some Actions. As well i think I got around 130pcs of SDRam. Oh and since the Board has an ISA Slot wouldn't it be cool putting an Card with a Proper OPL3 Chip in their
Gear Seekers : I am glad you shared it....3D-FX Voodoo 1 4MB PCI + Ati Rage Pro 4MB AGP2x coupled with an Intel Celeron 300 MHz (OCd to 450 MHz on stock SLOT 1 cooler) and 128 MB SDR 100 MH/T on a ABIT BX6 board was my first PC that I've built myself (along cutting my finger badly on the retention system of the SLOT 1 Socket). Later on I upgraded it to Creative Labs 3D-FX Voodoo 2 12 MB PCI (that allowed me to play NFS 3 inside the cockpit, whereas the 8 MB version of the Voodoo 2 only allowed it to be played outside the cockpit). Later on I upgraded to 3D-FX Banshee (the worlds first 2D/3D accelerator in one card, then 3D-FX Voodoo 3 16MB SDR AGP4x, 3D-FX Voodoo 4 4500 32MB SDR and lastly 3D-FX Voodoo 5 5500 64 MB SDR that I've sadly sold for 200 EUROS a few years back. Man, those were the days when 3D-FX was slaying it with Glide API and DX was gimping itself from v4.0 all the was to v7.0.
Man this series keeps me wishing I had a retro PC for some old school gaming. Had a blast playing games back in the old days. One Must Fall, Rise of the Triad, Transport Tycoon, Jagged Alliance to just name a few. Keen for Part 3!
I had that motherboard! I flashed the wrong BIOS onto it and bricked it. I 'borrowed' another board from a retailer and did a 'live' BIOS chip swap (using a chip puller) and re-flashed the correct BIOS before returning the board. Fun times. I also had a Voodoo card and backed up to VHS tapes! :D
I'm planning a reverse sleeper build but with Socket 462 and Modern AIO (with AM2 Clip and I'm still designing and testing the brackets). For cooler, you still can find some Akasa, Titan and Thermaltake cooler in the wild (at least here). For case, I would go with Antec DP502 Flux or Fractal Focus G. For Graphics Card/GPU, go with the V5500, but if you want something more common Geforce4 TI ir Geforce FX.
that is a great mother board.. would be cool to dual boot win98 and xp.. but that would limit your hardward choices a little bit. I think every gamer should built a retro machine just for the fun of it and to actually see the difference first hand from yesterdays to todays
Alpha coolers were popular. Everyone wanted an Alpha, but not so easy to get. This time period were experimental. Companies like Swiftek, Cooler master, Zalman, Thermalright and Thermaltake escalted with a lot of nice coolers. In your case you can get a nice old cooler, a CPU fan duct and a modern bigger fan.
Cool project, that was about the generation I started getting into the PC world. How about something like the white TD500 for its case, reckon going with white over black is a good nod to the beige powerhouses of the time while still being modern.
Another upcoming classic build. I remember my first GPU was a Inno3D Nvidia GeForce FX5500 agp 256mb card. Was great at the time at least for me but we have come so far I still have it.
It could be a cool water cooling RGB project. Maybe some enoying el wire too Remember that this time period was a Gold period of soundblaster and other cards. Integrated Ac97 sound sucked. Try to get the best. You can easily pick up a mpeg card too.
I have a somewhat similar retro build. I used a 60mm to 80mm fan adapter for the PCU cooler. For me it works well and I think it looks pretty good. And as for the case, I built my own out of acrylic. Much more challenging than you might think, but I am super happy with the result. I can send you a link to a short I posted if you are interested.
I have a Socket 370 retro PC as well but with a 900mhz Celeron. Got a Voodoo Rush for 3dfx gaming and a GeForce 3 for more modern games from early 2000s.
@@GearSeekers Unfortunately just finished digging through the box and it looks like I purged all the IDE cables I had left before I moved in 2017. Sorry about that.
I recently did something similar. I suggest you swap to a Vortex 2 based sound card for period correctness. You can also attach a Dreamblaster X2GS for midi support directly to the card. The Voodoo5 is the right choice for this unless you plan to play HW TL games. I used a coolermaster cooler with a Noctua fan swap. Make sure your PSU has a strong 5V line.
It's been a while since I've heard the name Abit. I had the slow version of the Pentium 3 450 MHz. I managed to get it up to 600 MHz which I ran until I upgraded. I remember thinking how big I thought the two fans I had on the bigger heat sink I got for overcloking it were. I don't remember the size now, but it wasn't much bigger than the height of the CPU :P I think I had the Diamond Viper V770 on it. Not sure about case. I can think of one of the Phanteks Eclipse cases, they're all very nice. One of the white ones will look super clean with this old hardware with the various colors on the components compared to what's today. And it makes the RGB look better when the case is white (IMO).
Had a really good chuckle. You almost described my tower back in the day. Abit BX chipset, 1ghz. 64mb ram, Dual Voodoo 2 in sli, Sound Blaster Live (might have been an Audigy) and a ATI All in Wonder Pro.

Yeah getting the coolers is a massive problem here. There is nothing. Everything I've wanted has been impossible to find.
Awesome video fams, loving these retro builds

With that yellowish motherboard you could try to get your hand on an inwin 101 TUF Gaming edition. The colors would match nicely

Who remembers the AMD slot A cpu. Still have it with an Abit mobo, S3 Virge videocard
Love to see more fella
I'm thinking it needs to go into a bright colored case. Maybe something to contrast the motherboards yellow.

I might have some round IDE cables laying around in the bin o cables, I can look if you want to go that route.
That would be good for another project I'm planning :D

When you come to TW, we'll go retro parts huntin! ;)
Use a Thermaltake core P3. You can have the whole build on show!
It's not a very practical case though.
@@GearSeekers That is true but it would make it the total opposite of a sleeper! Imagine that beast of a graphics card on show vertically mounted!

HB !
Thankyou :) :)
You could think about taking advantage of the fact that you're not generating a lot of heat and use a "looks good but..." case. Maybe an Evolv.
I'm going for something relatively small.
You should get a cusl2-c black pearl motherboard!

no doubt, meshify 2 compact
You should try to find an Abit BP6 :)
Get a brand new beautiful case and paint it beige 😂
