Great videos! I just picked up my 470 last week and can’t wait for spring! I think you should do a video showing your motor placement, jet foot alignment in relation to the transom and tunnel. Hey! Thanks for the tour of the boat, I've been watching your vids for a while and learning a bit here and there while thinking about maybe building a boat of my own one day. It's nice to get to see what goes into a build like that. I gotta say though, even if I built a dream jetboat I don't think I could ever beat some of those vistas you've got over there in NZ, some of the most beautiful landscapes in the entire world, I reckon.
Howdy Goat, I'm not sure comparing inflatable boats to alloy is fair. They are two very different animals. Low top speed, crap in the wind, handles like a bus. I like them but I also love my 3.1 jetboat. Its just what suits you at the time. Great vid, thanks.

Yes, great video. I'm a jet boater from Canada and am looking for a light weight alternative to tow on holidays. I've had 6 river boats over the years and am familiar with having to pound out dents as you show in your video, my main concern is how resistant the bottom of the boat is to getting cut from rocks? Sliding over rocks with a fabric bottom makes me very nervous. How did you pick this boat vs any other inflatables?
This boat was designed as a jet boat with a jet outboard to do this sort of bouncing around all day, its got the xtra layer of polyurathne that no other boats have on the bottom. After all the time Ive had it there is a couple of scuff marks on the bottom of it and thats it.99% of the rocks in the river are worn smooth with no sharp edges, it the rocks on the side of the river banks that are the sharp ones.I wasnt looking for an inflatable as I have been jetboating for years, however I stumbled across this video ruclips.net/video/RFCDQHvJcYA/видео.html and saw how they would just repetedly hammer up rapids and around rocks all day long with no damage , and to find there was an agent for them in the country that was it , sold the jetboat and havent looked back , for the boating that I can now do its a much better option

Cooler air is more dense and the density changes inside the hull as well. In cooler wind the hull will get blown around more. Wind turbines work better in cooler air as well. Great stuff and keep the videos coming!!!!!!!!!!!

I use the Solar 470 SJT for my job, and it seems to handle wind very well, but then again, it is always loaded. I wonder if it is the difference in hull design or the weight that makes the difference. The supplier says to keep the motor supported while trailered because it wasn't designed to support the motor while trailered, but my employer doesn't care to do so. I want to get one for myself and am torn between the standard Strela and the SJT. I want to use both prop and jet with a jack plate. I take 1,000 mile trips up and down the Yukon River, so prop is desired for that. Also, the Yukon River can have huge white caps with high frequency. I think the standard Strela will be great for that. The SJT is very capable in shallow water, but that Strela looks like it is just as capable. The manufacturer says that the SJT is more capable in shallow water, but I'm starting to question that logic. The manufacturer says that both can use prop/jet combo. I was originally considering the SJT, but I'm not so sure, anymore.

Great video. I have the Strela 450 and just got my hands on the same 2 stroke Tohatsu as you. I have one question. I see you have the ability of your motor tilting way up when you hit a rock and then dropping right back down. On mine, there seems to be a "shallow water position" where it catches when you lift it up and locks in about half way, not allowing it to drop back down. Since our motors look like the exact same models, Im wondering if you had this same problem and figured a way around it? Or did yours not have this shallow water lock?
mine has a lever that says lock on it, if its down the motor stays locked in place,however I leave the locked lever up and the motor can jump around as much as it needs
Phenomenal as always Goat! I'm busy reinforcing the bottom of my aluminium jonboat I use for gold mining on my channel and can definitely see the advantages to the inflatable boat! If all I have is aluminium for now, is plastic the only way to go for hull protection, or would a non slip paint do anything at all to help?
plastic on the bottom is the best option 10-18mm thick, its like putting another layer of armour on the bottom and will brace the hull up and its permanent , the non slip paint just wears off all the time

Regarding the wind problem - the boat in video is not loaded. This boat can easily take extra 700-800 kilo of useful load with a 50hp outboard. Under full load shallow water capabilities dont suffer much, speed takes a hit from around 50 to 30 km/h.

as port captain of a jet boat tourist company that runs glacial rivers approx 4.5-6 hrs daily on dual yamaha 150/115 jet drives our maintenance is much different than a prop lower unit. 1. pre season. lower unit removed, water pump rebuild, reverse gate gets a rebuild as well. pivot pins, eccentric, all bushings, sleeves, bumpers. reinstall unit and correctly shim impeller before inspecting boot and install. This size boat more than likely has no reverse gate because its so light. the glacial silt is so hard on the water pumps that we actually have to rebuild them mid season or at least inspect them (usually if were that far if they dont need ,they will so we just do it since were there). as the cones wear the tolerances between the impeller and cone increase and power is noticeably lost. Shimming is a relatively easy process of removing the boot or shoe, then cone. inspect and if there have been too many rocks go through because no matter what anybody says if you go through shallows you WILL suck rocks. you can actually hear the difference between silt and small rocks as they/it passes through. also, carry a giant flathead to pry out the rocks the get wedged in the grate. if one rock gets stuck you have a power loss.. adjust the shims and slip a feeler gauge between impeller and cone. if its too tight it will lock up at start and you will have to do it again and move 1 shim. last thing is a grease gun. there is a zurk on the lower unit that feed grease into the main shaft bearing. HIGHLY recommended to shoot it full before a days use. when you do you will see the old stuff with a high water content work its way out. all i all, do it twice and you're an expert, not rocket surgery . hope all this is informative

Getting a good deal on a Zodiac 470 military boat. Are you familiar with them do you know of it will run skinny like that?
never heard of that brand at all,unless its been designed to be a jet boat with a tunnel in the back of it to feed water into the outboard jet , it wont do the shallow water - its just a normal boat
Gday mate! I’m looking at buying one of these in the next few weeks! Have you had any issues with the glued seams? I understand they are glued rather than welded.
Havent had any problems at all with any of the seams or any part of the boat being faulty or poorly made.I have had it for over two years now, its been the first boat that I've owned that I have never had to work on, it doesent dent,break engine mounts or need constant maintance, all I do is top up the air before i go out as I let it down a bit when its sitting in the shed, highly recommend them to anyone

Ask any boat shops about the covers, my one was for a 5m inflatable, all their catalogs should have a listing for them , get one for the motor as well

Hi goat I have been waiting for this vid since you got it. Two questions hows it like with the impeller for the cooling with it jumping out the water have you needed to replace water pump? And how does the jet impeller handle it? Cheers
havnt noticed any change of the cooling when its bouncing out of the water, its only out for a fraction of a second, havent had to look at the water pump. The impellers just like new, due to the angle of the foot it doesnt seen to suck up the stones like a jetboat does

How heavy do you think a guys could load this. I’m thinking primarily hunting or a wife dog and camping gear for a weekend

What kind of top speeds are you seeing with this setup?
Any issues with silt or debris blocking the outboard water pump? how regularly do you have to get the impellor built up/stator vanes sharpened?
no probblems with the water pump clogging up, has not happened yet. The impellers just like new, due to the angle of the foot it doesnt seen to suck up the stones like a jetboat does, no stator in these units to repair, its complety different than a jetski /jetboat pump . If you look at the jet outboard website ,there are some good diagrams to see how it all works outboardjets.com/

What did you use for the attachment on that ryobi pump?
Its the fitting that came with the boat, just adapted to to fit the compresser
whats your impeller an shoe look like after a day of bashing?
Havnt had to touch the impeller since ive had it , the shoe hasnt broken/split/damaged yet, the plastic appears to be unbreakable. Due to the angle of the shoe behind the boat its only the very back of it - the last 30mm -that catchs on the rocks.The impellers survived due to the angle of the shoe and the motor doesnt have enough power to vaccum up the stones into the pump
Still looks like new, its made out of HDPE plastic and is ubreakable
How do you find it not having reverse
Im not used to having reverse, the jetboat never had it either. The reverse bucket hangs 3' lower than the motor, thats why it was taken off

Gravel road dust is not a good thing inside your engine....
