Being a former Rock Island employee I am very interested in your operation. My last position with the Rock was Assist. supt. in Peoria, Ill. I retired off the CSX in 2000. I am now working on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic RR. I just can't seem to get railroading out of my blood. I do track inspection and run as engineer when they run out of volunteers. Good to see the Rock colors again.
Larry, I worked for Pioneer Railcorp in Peoria back in 1997/98 that took cars up the old Rock Island branch from the P&PU at Adams street and went up the hill to Peoria Heights.
Nice! Another fellow CVSR volunteer! I worked there myself as a Trainman for a while before I went to Boone and Scenic Valley, A&TC and now NS after gaining enough experience.
I am a CPKC fan since I live in Oklahoma and I also liked the rock island even though I didn’t live to see it when it was bankrupt since I was born in the 2000s I ain’t no expert though but those track need some repairs
Nice to see the blue and white Route Rock engines running. I remember watching them go by my great uncles house in East Moline Illinois when I was a kid back in the 1970s. Maybe a nice Red/Yellow scheme on a future engine. That would be cool.
I lived at the end of the line. The guys taught me and let me switch flour cars at the mill as long as I opened and closed the gate at the Frisco X. My teens were awesome.
I know this would never happen, but I'd love to see Rock Island Rail take over operations on former Rock Island castoff lines, and especially to consolidate, rebuild, and operate the Choctaw Route.
Whoever did the detail work on those locomotives did a fantastic job! Was I the only one who noticed the reproduction builders plates? (even though I think originally they all came with just one on the engineer's side). Apparently the name "Mississippi Delta RR" is no more after seeing the name "Rock Island Rail" on the blue DOT crossing information sign. I never thought in a million years I would see that name on anything other than a page in history books. Great video Bishop! Very well produced!
It's really awesome to see an actual human being understanding the importance of keeping history alive. I was around on the final days of The Rock, but I never got to see it for myself.
I never got to see a Rock Island train in operation. When I was old enough to even know about them they pulled up the rails here in Arkansas. I am going to have to go down there and see if I can film them. I hope they are able to expand. I never thought in a thousand years I would see a Rock train in 2020 other than in an old picture or film.
The Rock main in my area was pulled up many years before I was born. So seeing something like this "revived" was certainly something else. They actually recently announced expansion in Rosedale and other areas. You can find an article online for more details!
@@LouisianaRailProductions I wish they could take over the Arkansas Midland and Little Rock and Western. They use what is left of the old Rock Island mains that were left. There was a study of relaying the old Rock main from Danville Arkansas all the way into Oklahoma. That was the Rock island Choctaw main line into Arkansas into Little Rock. The study showed that it would be a rather profitable railroad. However nothing has been done. If you haven't studied Little Rock and Western and the Arkansas and Oklahoma railroad, they are quite interesting.
@@midsouthexpress I was in the Little Rock area not too long ago. Managed to snag Little Rock Western 103. Do have plans to check out the Arkansas and Oklahoma. Kicker is when haha!
I caught a few on them in the early '80's, when Rock Island was going out, or might have already been out. There were a few locomotives and rolling stock at that time that were still painted in "The Rock" paint scheme that used to pass on tracks on the far south side of Chicago. Like I had seen Norfolk and Western locomotives / rolling stock years after Norfolk Southern took over. I was in Denver Colorado in 1998 and saw a Denver & Rio Grande train, even though Union Pacific had already taken over DRGW.
Can't keep a good man down, in this case, it's a railroad! The paint jobs look fantastic, wouldn't think to see the Rock Island beyond rusted fright cars and old film captures. Beautiful catches!
AWESOME VIDEO LRP, I'm glad to see the ROCK ISLAND railroad reborn again! What a PHENOMENAL paint job on those 2 engines! Always enjoy your videos bcuz the local short line trains are my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!
Those are the same horns I heard from the many Rock Island Lines trains that went from Rock Island, Illinois through Davenport, Iowa and then split off to either Omaha and then Denver or southeast to Kansas City.
Quite amazing. Never thought I would ever get the opportunity to see the Rock Island. Here it is. I cant wait to go down there and check out the operation.
I love the Rock Island blue logo but when I would see it I would feel bad because I know when they changed the Rock Island logo to Blue their days were already numbered. It is so great to see The Rock back up and running! I wish them all the very best! Fantastic video!
Amazing video!!! That narration was perfect, too! I loved the detail/history you included in the beginning! And being from the Northeast, that accent made it even better lol! You sir have earned yourself a new subscriber!
Just saying the same thing. The tracks look as rough as always. Maintenance is what put you guys under in the 80s. It's really cool tho to see the bankruptcy blue again. I'm 60. My old man was a brake man in ElReno. And they bumped cars all hours of day. No ac back then I live on the bnsf main south of abq now still no ac. I can't sleep if it's too quiet. Cool vids thanks for posting. This is the busiest line I have lived on I have bnsf, railrunner and an atsf 2926 484 steamer just finished rebuilding. All on the railrunner tracks!! We used to watch the blue wash off in heavy rains in ElReno. When something piled up the ril would putz around cutting them up for scrap. And the line would be closed for days. The bnsf would come along and just push things things out of the way and scrap them later. Just managed differently. The ril offered ElReno lots of engine and cars and ril stuff but ElReno said well they will always be here and wouldn't even spend money for side tracks to store them near the office building and museun down town
nice vid, good to see the rock in operation again... my biggest takeaway from the end of the rock was the totally incompetent then I.C.C. who took TEN YEARS to approve the union pacific acquisition of the rock which prompted me to conclude that, "...government should stay out of the business of business"
Just trying to understand the business model of this new Rock Island Rail venture - is it a short line interchange road? Looks like they receive traffic from the CN and move it to specific locations? They also provide cars to the CN?
Its really nice to see the video doing well! Thanks for all of your support!
I got all the train video on my channel ok
Great video, Robert is planning on making the Rock Island a Holding company rather than just a shortline, curious what the next line will be

Appreciate it! Means a lot coming from you. Can't wait for your video on the Rock!
Louisiana Rail Productions Hey, it’s my pleasure. This is one of the best railfan videos I’ve seen in a long time. You did The Rock justice.
The best looking paint in the history of railroading !!!

The guy who owns the railroad was in the state guard with my dad, so he knows him, but they aren’t really friends.
Born and raised in Rock Island from 1940 till 1955. It's great to see it back on the rail. Great video.
Glad you enjoyed!

I love how you brought this childhood logo back to life again thank you for restoring these engines

Didn't even notice the plates. Thanks for pointing that out.
They're also listed on the most recent edition of G.C.O.R.
Naw man, they had them on both sides from the factory. Did up until like the 50 or 60 series.
Killer's Opinion Keep an eye out on eBay and you’ll see blank original plates pop up now and then.

It'll be interesting. Rock may need a bit of a track update for that unit though.
It just came to the Rock Island
Louisiana Rail Productions I think it will do fine on the Line with the GPs
i love the color
Those two GP38's look sharp!!
I sure hope this new line is a big success and it extends and extends!!
Thanks for sharing an another awesome video

I loved The Rock when it it was part of the Rock Island Lines Great to see the paint job still being used!
THANK YOU FOR VIDEO
The rock is back in business!
4310 Paint Scheme looks great and would think it equates to Pride in Ownership. Well done.
Nice video, and also nice to see this little road featured in the current issue of Trains magazine, with #4373 and 4310 gracing the cover.
Great video, Bishop!

I hope if they get an sd40-2 that they paint it in the fire orange and yellow

Correct. A large portion of their revenue is storage.
Nothing wrong with Storage, it's a start.......

I want more of the ROCK NOW
We do have plans to eventually return.

You should ask them if they could lease the Illinois railroad museums rock island high hood
Weird they hooked up the engines that way ?
As a kid I had a N scale train layout done with The Rock locomotive and caboose. Still have the loco. Im now 52 years old
The C-48 has arrived, btw.
So I've seen. Looking forward to seeing it in Reborn Blue!

Nice video. Likesss 😉
Huh, it’s interesting to see a railroad revived, although it’s a matter of time before they either get new cast p5’s or other horns such as k5’s.
It won't be long until Rock will become a Class 1 Railroad again. It will give UP, NS, CSX, KCS, and BNSF some competition.
I wonder, how much it costs to paint one locomotive?
I actually have two of these locomotives in n scale
Resurrection R! XD
the only rock island paint better than this is the red and black. good luck to them.
I agree! That scheme was great!
