  • A cheap eye fillet recipe didn't exist... until now. This is, by far, the CHEAPEST and most INTERESTING way to cook an eye fillet steak: beautiful rice bowls, cooked in the Vietnamese shaking beef style. Why? Because a beautiful piece of eye fillet is a delicious dinner on it's own, but to feed a whole family, things get expensive. I'm going to show you how to make one piece of fillet steak stretch for a two-person dinner in an unexpected and SUPER delicious stir-fry you'll be making on repeat. This isn't any old beef stir-fry, my friends.

    Do I really need fish sauce? I absolutely hate fish.

    • @Feebeeee
      @Feebeeee 8 месяцев назад +1

      If you get a good quality fish sauce you really won’t taste it with all the other ingredients, but it does add a little something, more than just saltiness. Be sure to look for one that is light in colour, as the sauce is less intense.
      I am pretty sure Marion has a video on sauces & their differences.

      Vietnamese people often use fish sauce as a spice alongside other spices and it will make the dish evolve spectacularly. Of course, don't add too much. If you try the Vietnamese Bun Thit Nuong dish, you will see that even when used as a dipping sauce, the fish sauce is mixed in just the right proportion to bring out the explosive feeling. The finished dish will not have any fish smell left

  • @cliffgaither

    And don't forget :: fish sauce tastes like fish ! And everything you use it on ... well, I don't want my steak tasting like fish. You are a fabulous cook ... but I've tasted fish sauce ... never again !

    • @jfprizzy
      @jfprizzy 8 месяцев назад +5

      No one adds bottle fish sauce to a steak, literally no one. The umami flavour of the fish sauce is blended in with the soy sauce and oyster sauce flavours; so you can’t even differentiate what little remaining ‘fish’ smell if any.
      Add to it high heat stir and you’re left with hardly any smells from all 3 combined sauces.

    • @cliffgaither
      @cliffgaither 8 месяцев назад

      @@jfprizzy :: Ok ! I will take your words as truth and experience. My experience was with "pure" fish sauce. It's a taste you don't forget.

    • @doodahgurlie
      @doodahgurlie 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@cliffgaither Pure fish sauce isn't typically eaten straight up. It's often diluted if it's used as a dip, otherwise when it's cooked, it marries with the ingredient it cooks with. The smell is bad when you cook/heat it, but it dissipates and you shouldn't smell fish sauce in the food once cooked unless you added too much (or maybe a cheap brand).

    • @cliffgaither
      @cliffgaither 8 месяцев назад

      @@doodahgurlie :: I guess I was in a restaurant that thought fish sauce was best in its natural flavor. I had no idea that fish sauce had special preparations. Thanks for the info. I will definitely give it another shot !

    • @doodahgurlie
      @doodahgurlie 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@cliffgaither Well, in the restaurant's defense, it's possible the native folks may add a splash to their food if they think it needs more salt as fish sauce can be used in lieu of salt. Growing up, we never really added it to our bowls directly as the food should already be well flavored. But it's possible some places leave it out for those whom think the food needs more flavor. But you shouldn't be adding a ton to your food. But yeah, I'd say don't use it unless the restaurant made bland food...and even then, if you're leery go with salt vs straight up fish sauce.

    Marion this looks so good & I love you but not a fan of the side front side front etc camera play. Maybe just me, but a bit over done in my opinion….kind of weird & unnatural. Meant to make it interesting I guess? Just be your beautiful self, way more enjoyable to watch you cooking & explaining & I enjoy your interactions with your crew too. 💜💗💜
    P.S. I watch way too much RUclips (I have dodgy health, it takes my mind of pain at times) & this seems to be a thing atm; a little is okayish but overdone it makes me cringe.
