@1talldaddy yeah, it sucks...back before the Obama era (acceptance and progressive LGBT rights) ppl have to understand that being gay was a social no no in society. I'm not feminine or flamboyant...and any gay or fem tendencies I had, we're suppressed. I played football, I lift weights, I can change oil and do all the "masculine" things but lived a lie because deep down I know the world wouldn't love me of I told them who I really am. I take great pride in LGBT ppl who are out and proud, mostly young 20 somethings...glad their living in their truth even with so much opposition in the post Trump era...but there are many of us still "stuck in the 90s" mentality. I know I can be out and proud now...but ppl like Moesha has eliminated trust...this is why many gay black men are DL...and struggle with substance abuse...they just feel to gay and less than a man...great job to the writers...Moesha captures reality and holds up to the test of time...because at the end of the day...most black ppl don't like homosexuality no matter how progressive the world is or not

Sis when I tell you that every time you post a new video it's like opening a gift on Christmas! You're definitely the wiser big sister that everyone needs!
Anyway, this episode definitely hit home for me. I live my life as a transgender woman now, but when i was growing up I was like Tracey: everybody could see I was gay because I was feminine. i went to school in the 2000s and even then being gay was NOT cool or accepted by most people, so I can just imagine what it would have been like in the 90's. Moesha could have gotten that boy beat up or, at the very least, completely ruined his reputation and his life by running her mouth. She should have kept her suspicions to herself because she was most definitely playing with fire. You said it right in the video: it should have been common sense not to do that.

@@forthenostalgia based on my personal experiences back in the day, it isn't even a shock to me that that was enough to convince Moesha. I call those days the "no homo" era 🤣🤣 I remember back in the day a lot of people were hyper sensitive about anything that could even slightly indicate that a man might be gay or anything close to it. I watched a video where T.S. Madison was talking about men who are so paranoid about doing anything that could be seen as gay that they won't even wash between their 🍑.
I know where I grew up, if a straight man had a gay friend that would be seen as suspect and people would automatically start to talk about them. Which is just the most backwards, crazy thing to me, like people aren't allowed to get to know people who are different from them?? But that's just how it was, and hopefully that is changing nowadays, but it's just crazy to me that someone as smart as Moesha was supposed to be wouldn't even question that mentality. It's like the thought that they might be friends didn't even occur to her. Just a conclusion-jumping mess 😂 I hope she learned her lesson!

I am super glad someone is talking about Moesha and this episode. Moesha has this super righteous attitude when she really needs to step outside of herself and see certain things for what they are. The world isn't as simple as black and white. This episode should've opened up more about the LGBTQ and it should expand her views on life and yet she still chose to be close minded. That's what happened in a lot of episodes and I wish they would've been able to address that more with the parents.

Moesha really tried it this episode and showed her entire behind, She know Kim and Niecy are the town gossips she is not fooling anybody she was just trying to use them to deflect and not take any real accountability for her actions. Plus this episode should that she had an ego about herself because she wants to be the smartest person in the room. Omar deserved an apology from her because she forced him out the closet. And don't get me started on the episode on how she started Blacks Vs. Brown Beef.

Even though the rumor surrounding Omar's sexuality turned out to be true, Mo only assumed that Omar was gay all because she went out to dinner with him and witnessed him reunite with an old friend who happened to be gay. Mo took what she saw and ran with it and thought by telling Kim and Niecy, who are known gossipers, that her rumor about Omar would be kept under wraps, only for the rumor to be spread around school. Moesha only started to feel bad once Hakeem gave her the silent treatment (which I don't blame him for doing). She definitely knew she was in the wrong BIG TIME when Dee gave her a reality check. And the only reason why Omar was forced to come out was thanks to being outed by Mo. I don't dislike Moesha and there were a few episodes in this series that had me give her the side-eye, but this episode Labels takes the cake.

The thing that always gagged me about this episode is that nothing about the interaction between Tracy and Omar suggested that Omar was gay. Tracy obviously was, but Omar was just friendly to him. He wasn’t flirty or anything. His demeanor never changed. The episode does imply that Omar came out to Hakeem at the end, but I still don’t feel like Moesha had enough evidence to come to the conclusion that Omar was gay based off of anything that happened when they hung out. Like did she want Omar to be rude and homophobic to Tracy? And also, Hakeem clearly rejected his cousin for being gay at the end and all Moesha cared about was that Hakeem wasn’t mad at her anymore. She didn’t say shit to Hakeem about his homophobia. I know it was the 90s, but everything Moesha did in this episode was disappointing.

Let’s be honest about something, back in the 90s it was just not “cool” to be openly gay especially in the Black community. And so I feel like this episode reflected that moment in time. Second of all for all intents and purposes Omar seemed to be a “straight” male who agreed to go out on a date with Moesha. Moesha wasn’t expecting a very effeminate male friend or possibly boyfriend of Omar to crash their date so I can understand why Moesha would be shocked. Moesha probably shouldn’t have told Kim or Niecy of all people but I never believed Moesha was trying to (intentionally) start a shitstorm by telling her friends about what went on with her date.

I don’t think people get how (!) „sensational“ these mini gay elements in 90s shows actually were. It was all we got back then. Okay, I actually watched this show religiously. it started out with my crushing on Shar Jackson, but eventually I really got into it. Anyway, I never liked Moesha, but I watched every one of her teen adventures. I will say this: Moesha was the REALEST character on television at the time. She was awful, but not always. She was conniving, but not always. She was rude and inconsiderate, but not always. She was judgmental, but not always. She was a terrible friend A LOT OF THE TIME. She was also the most realistic human being on the small screen. No one else on TV captured the nuance of being a human being as Moesha. The so-called "popular" girls in my high school were primarily white/Jewish/Armenian, but Moesha behaved exactly like them. As an adult I've seen what has become of some of these girls, and (amazingly) most seemingly outgrew many of their negative traits. I wonder how an adult Moesha would behave. Oh, I don't count the final seasons of the television show ... those were an inconsistent, baffling mess.
