It seems to happen to me when I have a lot of gas. It's not the passing out that scares me--it's the feelings of doom that accompany these episodes. I literally feel like I'm dying.

I recently had an episode and I was coming out of the shower when I felt nauseous so I lied down then got back up and as I was getting dressed I felt like there was and ice cube in my head so I lied down again this time for like 20 minutes then I got back up and decided to tell my mum but as i was describing what I was feeling my head felt like it was literally on fire and my speech slurred I tried to talk but I couldn't like someone muted me with a remote then I lost my vision for 30 seconds and collapsed then my mum gave me food but I lost my appetite also whenever I try to explain to my local gp they think I am making it up or I am delusional it is very annoying and once it happened in school I have no friends so I told a teacher they said I am lying or it is just a headache but I know the difference between them they never let me go home it happened in pe once when we in a park we were running long distance I came first in the fastest time but then it started happening and I had no friends so on the bus I thought I was gonna die so tears came out of my eyes and I fainted but my teacher said I can't go home cause she doesn't believe me I am 15 now

My solution: I lay back totally plain back in a cold surface, or if im with someone i ask for ice or cold water and naked i toos it in my body, that makes the arthery or veins to restrain! I experienced this for over 30 years. It started when I was pregnant with my daughter. And only happens when I'm having a loose stool bowel movement. I always know when it's coming on because my thighs feel very weak. Listen to his advice. I have broken my nose twice and fractured my eye socket due to passing out and falling on the floor trying to get to the bed. I went to every specialist I could think of. The last specialist that I went to was a gastroenterologist. He walked into the room and I told him what was happening and he immediately knew what it was. I was angry but happy at the same time because no one else knew and he was just so nonchalant and quickly knew what it was without even examining me. I was so elated that I knew all I had to do was to at least squeeze my legs while I was having the bowel movement and this would not happen. I haven't passed out in over four years now

When this happens to me, I never go fully unconscious. I go to a half-coherent hell that feels like a trippy Stanley Kubrick movie and there is no escape. If you've ever had serious drugs without knowing (laced/bad batch) it comes close to the experience.
I met one lab tech who was an Air Force medic, he promised me that I wouldn't pass out, and he was right. Whatever he did, no other tech has achieved. I felt the pinch of the needle, and he asked me a few questions, and that was it. I started having these issues in the Marines, and it's only gotten worse.

Good grief! I've had this all my life since childhood and 57 years later, I'm just NOW finding out what it is! I've had attacks that got more prevalent during my 20's and 30's, during a staff meeting one time, during my sleep, during a movie, and on a cross-country trip in a bus. I've been on panic attack meds which helped. I was put on a different med which caused multiple attacks on a plane trip (7 in two hours). I've had a cardiologist explain I had a vasovagal condition but didn't give me any advice. When you said dehydrated, I realized it was exactly my problem. I can't count the number of times I've woken up with my dry tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth, my eyes itchy, or a doctor telling me I am dangerously dehydrated and ordering me to drink a gallon of Gatorade and refilling it with water and drinking it asap. I have had these 8 to 10 times per year all of my adult life… It’s horrible that other guy wasn’t exaggerating when he said “I felt like I was going to die.” I have discovered that if I can get my entire head and scalp under cold running water and hold it there for maybe 15 to 30 seconds, I can stop one of these episodes dead in its tracks and initiate its rapid and total reversal. Next time you get one you might try that. If I can’t get my head under running water, a towel soaked in ice water slathered all over my head is almost as effective. My working theory is: cold equals localized peripheral vasoconstriction, which equals localized peripheral (NOT SYSTEMIC) blood pressure boost which results in increased blood supply to the brain, a precisely targeted, short term, elimination of the root cause of the episode; but that’s just my layman’s homegrown explanation that works for me. … I have to add THIS; and I apologize if it sounds harsh, but, I state here that the preceding information is intended for educational purposes only. I am NOT a medical professional, and anything that anyone does as a result of reading this, does so at their own risk, especially in light of the following statement: If a person is running around with a hyper-inflated, thin-walled aneurysm in their brain, something as seemingly innocent as the exercise of my hillbilly cardiology procedure here could conceivably cause a rupture, the very definition of a stroke and thus the tragic end of them. There, was that clear enough? Now no one can say that I did not articulate the self-imposed and self-undertaken risk involved in such self-administered remedies. M-kay? Good luck!

However when my blood started being drawn, it was like an internal feeling of “oh sh!t” and my mind started getting fuzzy (like your tv static analogy) and my vision was getting distorted and awkward. I didn’t know what was happening and then I can only remember being in a state of just darkness and my whole body tensing and shaking (not violently). I woke up and I looked around and everyone around me was pinning me down with people in the waiting room staring at me. Next time I will definitely tell them to lay me down in the chair.

His suggestions are excellent. One that he mentions briefly is to hydrate. I notice these episodes happen more frequently whenever I have not ensured proper hydration. Anything that causes dehydration, including use of caffeine and alcohol, or several days of not drinking enough water, seems to be a trigger. Then it takes a day or so of proper hydration to completely clear up. I'm sure everyone is different but try hydrating. Keep track of it to ensure you are getting enough water. Might help.

    Toilet seat syncope
Vasomotor syncope must effect a fall into the horizontal position to allow for a rapid recovery. Some unfortunate patients are unable to fall during syncope because they happen to be alone sitting on a toilet seat situated in a narrow corner. I have seen or heard of several old people who had been found dead in that sitting position. Toilet room designers should be strictly reminded to leave ample space on either side of the toilet seats to allow syncope sufferers to fall and recover.

I have had vvs for years and no doctor here in Namibia could tell me why I was fainting several times a day. It took me reading up, guessing and eliminating certain causes to finally figure it out. I wanted some sort of official diagnosis, but the doctors I dealt with here in Namibia kept dismissing it, but also never got to the bottom of it. My triggers were hot temperatures, crowds, loud noises, sudden frights, standing for long periods, holding my urine in for long, bright light, etc. It was so obvious. I learned to read my body and would sit down whenever I felt an attack coming. Also I always had to tell at least one person on how to handle the situation if I ever fainted. Lifting me up would make my body shake, I had to lie down until I felt well enough to get up. It has been a long journey. Idk if the onset could have been catagorized as "acute", but it was bad during the first year and eventually became less intense and less frequent as the years passed by.
Anyways, all that was said in this video I can relate with. I just wish I'd known all this so many years ago. Nothing worse than thinking youve got a terminal illness or something 😅

First time I stood up immediately after getting the shot, so I passed out after a minute or so; second time I knew it was likely gonna happen, so I lay down and waited for the symptoms to go away, heart rate and blood pressured dropped severely but still managed to remain awake somehow. It took me about 10/15 minutes to be able to stand up again.

Thanks for sharing this video. I had VVS just recently and fell, hitting the toilet bowl rim. Had a bad laceration requiring 10 odd stitches. Fortunately, there were no further injuries to the brain etc. I would recommend all to take something light like a mug of hot cocoa before bedtime as this will rehydrate your system. Also, count up to 10 before sitting up from bed especially so in the middle of the night before going to the toilet. To you reading this, do take care and take these preventive measures.

Like the Doctor said, it's usually a collection of circumstances that brings on an episode. Stopping too quickly after exertion, having an adrenaline spike with no increased physical activity and overheating. Depending on the circumstances I may sit down, deep breathe and do a deep relax or I may do something to keep my heart rate up so that my pressure doesn't drop too suddenly. I do believe that maintaining good physical conditioning keeps it from being worse than it is. I'm usually able to fend off an episode when I feel the symptoms coming. Sometimes I may get through a year or two without experiencing one. It's not from over-exertion alone or elevated or lowered blood pressure alone. It's always a confluence of external activity and internal state (psychosomatic) that contributes to the likelihood of an episode.

I had my first episode last Friday after having diarrhea all morning from stomach virus. Within 30 seconds I felt pins and needles on both of my arms and then traveling to the top of my head. Got very warm and was drenched in sweat quickly. I felt nauseated and doomed. I was sitting in the toilet when this happened. I called 911 and after describing what was happening the firefighter on the phone knew exactly what was happening. A vasovagal response. I didn't not pass out. I felt better while I was on the phone and eventually the episode passed. Yes, I thought I was going to die. Apparently my sister also experiences this when she has digestive issues. I also have paroxysmal AFib and not even an episode of that was as scary as the vasovagal response.
Interestingly enough I know for a fact my AFIb is triggered when I have excessive gas and also have not slept or rested enough prior to the episode.
Our tummies are the root of these issues. Vasovagal nerve is too sensitive on some of us.

This has happened to me since middle/high school. The other day I was standing for a couple minutes for a girl to cut the end of my hair. Started feeling that weird feeling I get before and episode and let her know I needed to sit. I almost didn’t make it. Once I got to the chair I was getting hotter and more uneasy feeling. I could feel my vision going away and I was fighting it by trying to breathe through. Sometimes I can recover but apparently not this time. I fainted in the chair for a couple seconds and when I came back to, I started sweating excessively and getting increasingly more uneasy feeling inside. I had to lay on the floor in the middle of the hair salon. Luckily it was just me and one hair stylist but it’s still mortifying. It feels like you’re literally going to die. I’m aware that it’s harmless in most cases but I can’t help but feel terrified. And then the anxiety of having an episode and accidentally triggering it makes it even more prevalent lol . WHO INVENTED THIS.

I’m a grocery cashier. This has happened to me at work a couple of times. The first time it happened to me was because one of my coworkers got a tattoo. I lost my balance and I couldn’t control anything and I hit my head on the floor. Thankfully not so hard. My customer yelled “HE’S DOWN!!” and I was put in a chair and dragged away. The second time was because someone was wearing eye contacts that I can tell distorted the color of her eyes. Before I could lose my balance I went straight to the manager’s office and I laid down on the floor and I got over it quickly and went back to work 10 minutes later. It’s the worst feeling in the world when it happens because I lose control over my body and I have no sense of direction or anything. It’s also very embarrassing because it does create a scene.

I experienced this for the first time, I was driving- everything was becoming blurry and it felt like I wasn't going to be able to stay awake, I pulled over to the side of the road as quickly as possible to park the car (afraid that if I hadn't, I would have lost control of the vehicle) I was extremely fortunate I used whatever consciousness I had left to be able to pull over; my sister was in the car and told me that after I pulled over- I became unconscious for about 10 minutes, convulsing and gasping for air or snoring as if I were asleep- I was unconscious and have zero memory of the 10 minutes I was gone- apparently my eyes were wide open the entire time and my sister tried to shake my body to wake up- but like I said I have zero memory of this. I remember when I regained consciousness I felt as though nothing had happened/no time was missing/and my memory began where it was left off (the moment I parked). It scares me to think that my eyes were open the entire time yet I have zero memory of being present in the moment. The cause (I'm speculating) was due to combination dehydration, the hot stagnant air in the car and the lack of sleep I've received prior to leaving the house for a quick errand. I hope it never happens again, especially while I'm driving.

Heat will expand your blood vessels(i think) and dehydration will lower your blood volume - combine that with lack of sleep and you're body is gonna have a hard time with regulating blood pressure so you prob right. Remember to talk to your doctor just in case cause u never know

This is very common. When I used to get my blood drawn the same thing would happen and I think all the time, just thinking about it, lol one thing that has helped me is called a butterfly. It’s a special tiny tube they used to with draw the blood it looks like a crazy straw. The difference between that and a regular syringe is the blood comes out super small amounts at a time so you don’t even feel the blood coming out of your system.... you have to ask when you go to the blood draw place to please use a butterfly, otherwise they won’t do it. I learned this from a nurse.

I passed out multiple times in my life but the most dangerous one was my most recent episode during my physical when they took my blood pressure. They took my blood pressure and then I felt my blood coursing through my arm. Blood is one of my triggers. I started overthinking and my anxiety built up. I felt my legs getting heavy and my mind going blank and I freaked out. I asked to go to the bathroom and right there I passed out sitting upright on the metal bench. I fell off the bench unconscious multiple feet off the concrete ground. My knees slammed into the ground first (thank god) and then my head. All the doctors were freaking out (because they probably weren’t trained for this) and they all rushed to my aid. My doctor said if my knees didn’t hit the ground first, my head would smashed onto the ground. My knees were in horrible pain the next few days it felt like they were both broken and I had to walk with a cane the next few days. I was a tough 15 year old but walking out of that hospital was suffering and held a lot of crying and tears back. After a few days it healed and got back to normal so it wasn’t broken, just super banged up. I could’ve died because of this syncope I have. My tip to all of you reading this is to let the people around you know when you feel something happen and to immediately act. It could be a matter of life or death. If I didn’t hesitate and I just laid on the ground, I could’ve prevented it from happening. If you feel a trigger happen in the car for example, pull over or slow down to lower risk of injury. I haven’t tried the coping mechanism in this video yet because I just saw it, but I hope it works. I’ve probably passed out ~7-8 times in my life from blood triggers or the shock factor of a loved one passing. I’m 16 now.

I get the same episodes as some do when seeing blood. Except my episodes happen when i hear about pain: when I see someone in pain or when someone describes pain. I will get really pale and clammy and pass right out. First time it happened was in math class when my teacher spent half the class talking about kidney stones.
Happened one time when i had to help a girl crippled with period cramps. It's like that involuntary wince people do when they see someone kick someone in the knee cap. Except my reactions are on a whole new level. It's a level of empathy that causes me to put myself in others' shoes and my brain doesn't want to live someone else's pain.
They were very debilitating at one point; I could just remember an episode I've had in the past and it would trigger.
But I've learned pretty well to manage these episodes and they pass pretty quickly. I have less of them.

I just got blood work done today and I know that I'm already terrified of blood (especially blood leaving my body), but I thought I was in the clear when it was over. All of a sudden my vision started to go out, and I got warm, and my ears were ringing and I experienced somewhat of a panic attack because I didn't want to loose consciousness, plus it felt as if I was dying in a way. (Though I suffer from a lot of panic attacks so I've learned to work through that feeling better). I was just so surprised at myself because I really thought I was in the clear 😂 The nurse kept asking me to repeat my name and I probably sounded drunk. So glad I know what this is now because I feel like it's been getting worse with age.

This guy is so nice! He seems so calm and professional. I am getting my second show of the covid vaccine tomorrow. I passed out for the first one, and pass out with most other shots too. This reassured me that I will be okay and try to control it.

Glad to hear I’m not the only one. I got my first covid vaccine today and nearly passed out as I was leaving. I had to sit down on the floor in the middle of Walmart. So embarrassing.

@@happynewmom I passed out and started shaking while I was out so it looked like a seizure in the middle of a Walmart after the covid shot, super embarrassing. I never had a problem with needles before but i think I developed a ptsd from it bevause now I pass out in any anxious situation

Having an extreme blood injury injection phobia it would be amazing if you could upload a video on ‘preventing fainting with bl**d phobias’ and were able to present this information without using terminology that is difficult to listen to when extremely phobic. It’s very difficult to overcome when the information on it is riddled with triggers.

I wasn't like this til i was 19, it only happened twice, first when i had my nails done and the manicurist cut my finger, second was when i accidentally cut my own finger with a knife and for me its the worst thing, i dont want this especially when i like to be alone ad no one is around to help me.
    So thank you for this

I like the ducks in row comment, it makes sense . I have taken to hospital twice because of this. I also have bradycardio so the staff panic. It seems to be worse when i have severe Stomach pain/cramps. But not always . I think other ducks have to line up to make me faint. Thank you for explaining

I was working and standing in a warm environment for a long time, and all was fine until I accidently stabed under my thumb nail which started to barely bleed. It wasn't even that bad, but then I started feeling the symptoms and I had to sit down, then everything started to get very fuzzy and white. It was extremely uncomfortable and I felt very weak. My co workers kept going on about my face being pale and were very confused XD
This also happened a few times in the past before. When I was in middle school, one of my classmates hit her head on a door and her head was bleeding. She was fine, but the sight of it made me have similar symptoms a few minutes later.
Another time was when I was in Biology class. You can probably guess why.

From my childhood to now I fainted atleast 15 times. I have no fear of blood. But fainting is involuntary for me. Injection, blood test, Injured person, .. are the reasons.
It's very difficult feeling while fainting, I feel like soul out of body. Thank you sir I will try these tips at next time.

I think that maybe this is my case. It has happened to me since I was a teen. It happens to me when a situation feels totally hopeless and lost, like the world falls apart around me. It is emotionally based.
Blood stops flowing up to my brain, my body temperature lowers, I get a headache. I faint but I don't lose consciousness. I need to lie down and resto until it goes away.

I had an accident at my work place that caused me to get vasovagal. I had my hand on a steel gauge that had a spring on it. I inadvertently triggered the spring into my left thumb. Mind you, it was an accident. I started to get dizzy, and started to sweat profusely. At the hospital, they told me it was a vasovagal reaction that sent a shock wave into my brain. I've never fainted at the sight of blood, but I have a bro-in-law that does.

I have this and I passed out while driving my truck this weekend...totaled my truck but was ok. I had my 7 year old son was in the car and thank God we were both ok, but I've never been so scared in my entire life. I had one small cough that made me pass out. It keeps happening more often and I'm absolutely desperate to cure it. I could've hurt my son who is my whole world.

Biggest thing is, if you know your susceptible let your health care provider know… especially if they are about to draw blood, etc…
