These guys were my heroes. In 77-79 my dad had Dodger season tickets right above home plate just above the announcer deck and I was 12 years old in 77. So many memories to list… but I do remember taking the drives from Torrance to Dodger stadium in our then white on white 77 Volkswagen convertible most times with the top down listening to the pregame show on the radio… arriving at the park, grabbing our Dodger dogs, peanuts, drinks and experiencing all the fun. Remember Pete Rose, Johnny Bench and thinking then that I was watching hall of fame players live… NY and the Yankees were the enemy but I always had respect for Reggie Jackson and was at the game when a young Bob Welch struck out Reggie in the World Series. Some nights were just magical and you could feel it in the air… then hopping back into the Vdub dropping the top, tuning into the post game and speeding back down into the South Bay with little traffic once you got past downtown. I always had Dodger cap, baseball glove, fold up Dodger padded seats and radio ready and waiting in the trunk of the car for the next outing…Thanks for all the memories!
Greatest Dodger infield of all time
We used to park on Academy Road, right across the street from the police academy, then walk all the way to the left field entrance or the pavillion section just to save the $2 parking fee ($4 if you had more than 2 axles). If we didn't already have tickets, we would buy them at those row of ticket booths set up behind the left field entrance. Fans surrounding us would always bring their little transistor radios, so we could always hear Vin Scully calling the simulcast. My dad would always miss an inning while waiting in line to get Dodger Dogs. The vendors would walk up and down the aisles and we'd always get those Carnation Ice Creams that you ate with those small wooden spoons... great memories....
I met Bill Russell one day on a horse trail in the Arroyo Seco of Pasadena. Just nodded and smiled at him as we were walking in opposite directions. Seemed kind of shy but real genuine.
I was there for it...!!!💙💙💙💙
